| Quote ="vastman"I agree that so far things have gone relatively well, it would be churlish to suggest otherwise. However I think you're jumping the gun slightly by stating it's vastly improved - it's far to early to tell. So far it's been fairly cosmetic, yes in it's own feelgood factor way that's important. That said many of the really vital underlying issues regarding the club are yet to be addressed. Now I accept that there has been no time to act as yet, but the fact remains that they still very much exist and until action and results are evident I don't think you can make such bold statements.
I'm not suggesting the same scenario is about to happen but for the first few month under Pearman everything seemed to be heading in that direction then bang - I'm a bit cynical but then we have good reason.'"
Apologies, mid read the "churlish bit", however the improvements are still vast, "relatively well" is underplaying it some what.
I've also read your post and have re read and am not sure what more is to be gleaned by the rest of it.
The long term "running down" of the club, will not be reversed over night, but by doing the small things right we are moving in the right direction..
All these things would never have happened under TR, so I restate, a vast improvement.

Well it's your opinion, but it's not one shared by myself and a few big hitters I know. They consider the changes so far as cosmetic and something anyone could do. One person said he sell Rugby like he's sells conservatories. I'm not sure what that meant exactly and was certainly a bit snobbish for me but the inference was that he's out of his depth.
I know it's not the latest fashion to be an AG critic and I'm not. The jury is still out for me. I just have a nagging feeling that in 12 month time there will be a lot of unhappy bunnies on this forum, who's expectation were not met.
Ted gave us 17 years, some very bad, some OK and a few good ones. It's fair to judge him on those 17 years, minus the slanderous and unfounded rumours that masquerade as fact on here. His was ultimately a failed management, though it could be argued one of dogged resistance to the inevitable - your choice.
Your assertion as regards improvements under Ted is way off the mark IMO. There were a number of times the club made leaps forward every bit the equal of AG so far. In the last 10 years the boxes were added, the shop was added, crush barriers added, the learning centre, proper toilets, bars etc. Just remember back to 2000 when non of the above existed. On field, promotion to SL, a proper Academy set up, a franchise win, two top 6 finished and a CCup semi final. I'n not suggesting the above represents a golden age, but it was not without it's high points. There are short memories here and an element of throwing the baby out with the bath water and all in favour of the new kid in town.
By contrast AG has not done 17 month yet let alone years and has invested a few tins of paint and some cheap tickets. It's to early IMO to be positive or negative but the fact is no serious investment has taken place. This is compounded by the fact that the team is way below the cap so the club is already running cheaply.
I'm not attacking him, merely pointing out the facts as we the public know them. It's to early to say IMHO.

My irony meter is reading off the scale; the negativity you portray here and in your lengthy post about AG on another thread, far outweights that of the few people who've had a pop at Gleeson after his dodgy performance last week. Your brand of negativity is significantly more damaging, incidentally, than bagging a player.
It strikes me that you're not happy unless you're swimming against the tide.

Genuine question i'm not trying to be clever but where are these 'vast' improvements? I disagree that 'relatively well' is underplaying it, it seems to me it's petty much on the money. Things certainly appear to be improving but I can't agree there has YET been any vast improvements. Hopefully given time they will come.

No irony at all. Just stating a fear I have, I haven't personally abused him. Not even critical, again just stating that for now and possibly understandably nothing has happened to warrant the expression vast improvement steady the ship is more apt IMHO.
I'm sorry you don't like it but I don't feel we have had enough time with AG yet to be showing the amount of trust and praise some are affording him. I don't know how long you have supported the club but I've been here since 1987. In that time I've seen two regimes appear and start like a house on fire full of promise only to crash and burn. They were the Duncans and Pearman.
I know it's human nature to grasp at anything when your on the rebound which we as Trinity fans are but as you probably know that's a dangerous game.
All I'm saying is as regards NM I've heard some negative stuff, again I'm sorry if that upsets your rosy little world, but I can't/won't un hear just for you. I'm just urging a little caution before we invest too much faith in a guy we hardly know who hasn't done very much yet.He needs time and so do we or certainly me
Remember just because he's a good talker and says what you want to hear doesn't make him the answer to our problem unless he turns it into reality.
Thank you

Wrong, and this is where people memories become very selective. It happened a few times, the problem was Ted either didn't have the ability, will or money to sustain it. He simply wasn't able to take us too the next level and probably never could. So far AG has not moved this club one bit higher than it was when Ted was at his peak, that's just a fact
Just cast your mind back to 2008, not that long ago when Ted pushed the boat ou and we signed Brough and Drew, heady days for us - ditto Solomona and Domic. It did happen only to fade far to soon.
Under AG we are yet to make a seriously major piece of investment in anything, player, ground whatever. I hope he does and unlike Ted I hope he has the ability to sustain it, but lets save the praise until that happens.
As of the moment we are still the same old Trinity, light years behind the rest surviving hand to mouth - unless you know different?

| Vastman your love child has had another classic just then, lost 1 on 1 to hand Cas a try, what a great fullback he is and as you have been going on and on about his defensive skills are exceptional!

Wakey fans support the players, warts an all, you are a poor excuse for a fan. In fact you'd be happy if we lost to prove a point.

Not at all, but Blaymire should not be playing! I want us to win especially against Cas, of course I do.

I respect you're opinion but on the one on one, did you see Shentons steal today, took the ball off a far better fullback, these things happen in RL.

Yes, he made a mistake tonight. But you fail to comment on the fact that he did the things you have been moaning about him not doing. I thought Matty had one of his best attacking games for a long time tonight. He made 1 mistake that cost us a try but the other 90% of his game tonight was very good.

| Matty clearly got involved today in attack and I thought in that respect went well without breaking pots.
Defensively sound again apart from his 1 blunder. Wish he would have passed on the overlap we had but wasn't needed in the end.
Improved performance and this week thought he went well and looked hungry for the ball

Blaymire had a good game as did the team. Cas also dropped balls that led to try's that's part of the game.t.
We won the game, move on and grow up.

| A good performance from Blaymire tonight - he certainly seemed to run the ball back with more energy.
He was sound under the high ball again, which is his greatest strength and saves us a lot of grief; he can be proud of himself, as can all the players.

The only 'awesome' thing that Mathers was involved in was the contrast between his triumphant gesture to the Wakey fans after the first try, and the face like a well-skelped ar5e as he slunk back after our winning try.
Classic.

'Love child' christ that one's not been used for a while, since the days of Mark Field possibly! I can't believe the game was so close given we only made 1 mistake all night, amazing...

| Been many times that he has come in for criticism over the years (fairly) but last night certainly wasn't one of them. Had a great game and got us on the front foot many times with his kick returns as they had a bit more urgency than normal last night.
One things for certain, he would be in my team every day of the week before that house Mathers.....

Was going to post the same. Would rather Blaymire anyday. Well done Matty.
Any of you see Saints v Wigan you would all be saying get rid of Welllens had you seen him drop that pass in first half. All players drop ball etc it just seems that if Matty does it some of you are on his back straight away.
btw earlier in thread folk mentioned steady full backs for me Colmn Halpenny was up there with best we have had in Supeleague. Nothing flash but reliable and surely taht is what we want out of a fullback. The half backs are there for the flash stuff and Hendo ofcourse
