| He's not the greatest of coaches, I admit, but he does have so pros that you can be pleased about.
[list
[*This season has seen FC playing some expansive, attacking rugby.[/*:m
[*This season FC have scored 50+ on 5 occaisions.[/*:m
[*In the two seasons where we haven't been as decimated by injuries, we've finished in the playoffs.[/*:m
[*He has a good knowledge of players at all levels of the domestic game (I've noticed that when questioned at the fans forums)[/*:m
[*Was responsible for players like Tom Briscoe joining Hull FC (Peter Sharp gave Briscoe his debut, but Agar scouted him). If you're lucky, he may be able to find another exciting player like this.[/*:m[/list:u
However, there are a few cons that he has.
[list
[*Failure to recruit players for our weaker areas (ie, halfbacks).[/*:m
[*We haven't won a Cup game against SL opposition in 09, 10, 11. [/*:m
[*Very odd interchanges. [/*:m
[*Seems as though his 'favourites' are guaranteed a spot, regardless of form.[/*:m[/list:u
I wouldn't be expecting miracles, but he won't be too bad for you. Hopefully Wakefield can improve, with a new coach and a better financial situation, but your squad is fairly weak so I wouldn't be expecting great strides immediately. It's unfortunate that his appointment has come late, so he might be unable to make some of the signings that he would have wished to.

| I’m pretty ambivalent about it TBH.
Not so long ago the club went bust, and then plodded along to the inevitable removal from the comp.
I didn’t want Noble, just feel he’s been there, done it. Certainly not Goulding & an Aussie option is usually short term.
Players & Coaches come & go, at least I’ll be watching my team play S.L next year – result.
There seems to be quite a few elated Hull fans right now, but I think the changes at Board level has been a bigger factor than the Rugby side. Whoever they pick to replace Agar has got one hell of a job on.

you're wrong there, we were excited by the change of owner because we were confident it would lead to a change in coach, which it has.
Agar has been a spectacular failiure at Hull, coming out and saying "the race for 8th is exciting" was criminal, and phrases like "we need to raise us bar" simply made him look a bit foolish.
He's a good caoch (as has been said) and if he has the right support around him he will improve your league position in the comnig years, but remember, we paid a fee for Westerman and Obst, who have both made big contributions to us finishing anywhere near the playoffs, he has signed players on big money (O'Meley,Berrigan,Fitzgibbon,Long) and I don't think he'll have that kind of cash available at Wakefield.
His short term recruitment will give you an indication of what you can expect next season, hopefully you'll do well and start climbing the league, but the new stadium is key to you really ever being successful in SL.

| Quote ="Tongan Mafia"Not an arrogant post at all its a fact your squad isnt nowhere near as good as ours. If he cannot make a success out of ours then what hope as he with yours? Unless 8th place in the playoffs is your goal every year?
It certainly isnt ours.
This guy was given four years in them four years he has a win % under 50 and has a horrendus record against the big guns and add to the fact we havent won a challenge cup game against a super league team for three years
The board backed him they bought tansey and westerman he got high profile signings along the way with the likes of ogre and fitz. And still he couldnt cut it. John Kear did more in that one year then Agar has done in four. Oh yes and we are still waiting for our FIRST play off WIN in this now being his FOURTH year in charge.
Arrogant no Realistic very much so!'"
I was referring to your logic that because he's been poor for you he would automatically do the same here. He may do better here under less pressure and be able to improve us. Some of the more intelligent Hull posters have acknowledged he does have some strengths and the change may do him and us some good. However, I appreciate it's easier and more simplistic to blame Agar for years of underacheivement at Hull and assume the same will happen here, but in reality it's more complicated than that.

Careful, you'll be joining my Bullying club soon.
Just another in a long line of excuses for the apathetic "fans" of Wakefield to justify them not going, buying Season tickets etc.
I can't believe any true supporter would be unwilling to even give the guy a chance to show what he can do. I know he wasn't everyone's first choice but as I said in an earlier post, maybe he was the best coach that Wakefield Trinity could get at this moment in time.
Maybe, just maybe, he will prove to be an inspired signing and we'll get a team playing rugby that we want to watch. Until he puts out a team in our colours, who can tell???

| I suppose things could be worse.
A couple of months ago we were in danger of not having a club to support, now we have.
A couple of weeks ago we wre in danger of losing our superleague status, we didn't.
Season tickets for £100.
Improvements to BV opn the way.
Hopefully a positive result from the PI, we could be starting on NM.
If Agar doesn't do well (slow improvement I mean, I don't expect us to be pulling up the trees next season) we can get rid.
I'm still looking forward to next season, it can't be worse than this one.

Added to which, he hasn't given a single young player a debut this season, he has a 40-odd percent win ratio as a head coach and this percentage is somewhere near halved when taking into account only teams in the top 6. Oh, and, we've never won a play off game with him in charge.

| Quote ="vastman"Interesting comments from Hull fans, the only ones who really know.
Obviously ignore the ones like Standee who always crawl out from under there rock at these moments.
The general concensus seems to be that Agar is generally a decent Coach but not a top coach.
Well maybe we need a reality check because we are NOT a top club and Wayne Bennett with the help of the richest Arab prince couldn't turn us into one by the start of next season.
I was as guilty as anyone else of wanting an Aussie - Gentle the most obvious. Yet he wasn't going to join us, not ever and had he joined us he would have failed.
You see Gentle and others have an agenda. Cone to SL and take a top side or at least a nearly there side to a CCup or better a SL title in two years then return to Oz and become a HC. No way could he do that with us.
Even if AG lives up to his promise looking at Trinity right now we do not look a good prospect for that level of coach. You wouldn't move halfway around the world to take your chances with the worst team in SL this year and one of it's weakest clubs. I don't care how good Gentle is he couldn't turn us around in the time he would have.
Looking at it in the cold light of day Agar or similar is about right for us, steady guy for a steady club. We all want success but until we move to NM that simply won't happen because we have not got the money. Let Agar have a go, he may not win us anything but if he keeps the club running at a professional level until NM that would do. If he does better than hoped then when NM happens he gets a go. If he doesn't he makes way for better and we will get better at NM. Either way we don't lose.
There are better coaches out there than Agar but whether there are better coaches for us right now I don't know. I suspect that's what AG thought. We need to be realistic and he's hardly what I'd call a disaster.'"
Totally agree, I said this one a few different threads before it was announced. I think Agar will benefit massively from a fresh start as much as FC needed a change so I'm sure this parting of ways will suit all concerned.
I'm sure Agar will get you challenging to make the 8 next year, his recruitment (on the whole) for FC has been good so I'm sure he's already thought about possible additions for you, and I have no doubt he will be taking some FC players with him at the end of the year.
I wish him all the best and I'll be following your progress with interest next year.

The recruitment desicions of these two guys, followed by the abysmal injury plague in 2008/09 meant he was up against it right from the start.
He has since built a fairly good team (on paper), but failed to get the performing consistently and compete with the best in SL.
.'"
Oh well, I hope Peter Gentle makes loads of rubbish recruitment choices and gets the side to perform inconsistantly then we may get to some finals again.
I would hate it if he made a really good side on paper and consistantly settled for mediocrity. Like the Great bloke/great coach that is Richard Agar.
Seriously Agar should be on the telly doing mind control tricks on the streets of Hull/Wakefield
He has never in any way shape or form proved that he is a coach of super league quality
