| Quote ="vastman"Come on how many 12,000 gates have either of us had? Don't let's get a head of ourselves. It's taken you lot 15 years to even get close to filling your stadium. I'd much rather a small full ground than a big half empty one any day, especially one that has expansion built into it.
As for details, they will be fed to the media over the next month I believe.'"
As i inderstand it you are averaging about 8200 now. In recent experience moving to a new stadium ie HULL and WIRE adds on about 2000 .
If you continue being successful when you get big games you should be IMHO looking at topping 12000.
last year we got two 12000 plus crowds with about 15000 for the Leeds game. I see no reason why you should not be aiming for those sorts of crowd if the on pitch success continues.

all in good time , as for me i would much prefer that the ground sells out for most matches and that BY popular demand that the WTW have no alternative but to expand .
1 must also not forget that cas are also hoping to get a ground of similar capacity and for an area like ours i think this is sensible.
if things were different and the galpharm had not happen but lets say 3 years ago a developer was going to build a ground mainly for the giants im sure most of us would agree a 12k stadium (with potential of upgrade) would be good enough.

only reason i say this is because when you read the press release it refers to things like "safeguarding the future of RL in the district" and it being a "community stadium" without being specific to Wakefield.
obviously we don't know full details yet but it was just something about the press release that seemed strange that's all.

Have a look at this....
news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/in_dept ... 078001.stm
It's an article from Tuesday, 19 December, 2000. Can we all remember the disaster that was building Wembley. Well this article was published after Bates was pushed from leading the development.
They paint a very good picture of Rodney, passionate, dependable, resourceful, wealthy, committed & connected. Just the leader this project needs.
I honestly believe he is the man to lead us into our new era. Well done all involved, keep up the good work and the freedom of the city is yours!

Fair comment but look at how long its taken yourselves to get these crowds in and you must admit there are a lot of frebbies thrown around at the goatfarm stadium. You are in an enviable position at this moment in time and things are going well for you on and off the pitch, hopefully our stadium will be built with expansion in mind and should we ned to extend then this shouldn't be too diffiult. Building our crowds will take time but hopefully with this news a few people will crawl from under the furniture and out of the woodwork and start giving the boys and the club the support they deserve this season. It would be nice moving in to a new stadium with an average attendance of around 8500-9000 then with the new support that the new stadium will bring we should be able to create a great atmosphere.
On another note I will sorely miss Belle Vue, OK its a dump and well behind the times but it has great character and is one of the last of a dying breed that being a proper rugby ground. New stadiums may look nice and gain you valuable franchise points but they will never have the character of the likes of Fartown, Thrum Hall, Wheldon Road, our dump et al.
Onwards and upwards now for us, the best news we've had in years!

| Absolutely brilliant news for not just Wakefield fans but visiting fans and Rugby League fans in general.
Wakey need this stadium badly and the sooner the better, it will see a rise in crowds for them and if they get the planning right, which I hope they do, they will get the bigger away fans attendance as well. Sadly there are people that just won't go to BV, sad but understandable really at the moment.

| Who would have funked it that Stanley would be the location?? That's come out of the blue! Looks perfect sense looking at Google maps, not much around, plenty of land and straight off the M62.

Looking at the map, coming down Newmarket Lane from Aberford road, I would imagine it will be on the right, huge area to develop.

Quote I am reliably informed that just a few weeks ago Sir Rodney was a guest speaker at a Wakefield Golf Club function and was asked the question 'Will the Wildcats get a new stadium?'. To which he apparently replied that they would get a new stadium providing Castleford played ball. Things might have changed since then, I don't know. It will be interesting to see the outcome of this.
To have this stadium delivered within the next two years is optimistic to say the least given the present state of things. '"

So they must have moved that colony of endangered newts then. Well done to the conservationists.

They are talking in context of aussie posters claiming two clubs going it alone is counter productive, not sure if I'd read too much in it.
Nowhere does it say the stadium is exclusively ours, but it is in Wakefield and Cas have been the ones who were insistent they could succeed on their own.

| As I live in the Rothwell side of Wakefield (the people of Rothwell voted to become part of Wakefield in 1974 but got shoved in to Leeds instead ) then Stanley is an easy place to get to. It will just be on the border with Leeds but definitely in Wakefield.
I look forward to our first game there.
