No, I wouldn't regard it as adequate, and it clearly wasn't. Proper segregation was the obvious way, with Cas fans down the East Terrace, but of course Mr Wright went public with his opposition to that. Nice one, Dicky. Might pass that observation onto the RFL.

The group in front of me, to which several people have identified, were certainly not Castleford fans given their vitriolic outbursts aimed at Castleford fans and they then moved to where the initial crowd trouble started. I was actually in a good position in the North Stand so have seen bits of what occurred despite my very best attempts to focus on the game. The Wakey minority on the edge of the divide, however, spent the entire first bit of the second half focusing on the Cas fans. Therefore, my statement albeit is correct in the sense but I admittedly left out the actions of some Cas fans that ensued.
FYI, I have pointed out several times that in regard to the bottles being thrown that both clubs are at fault. However, for some to come on here questioning balance only to state "let's start blaming Cas fans" is that just not tit-for-tat and a bit two-faced?
Don't know about you but I'd rather all idiots were eradicated from the sport regardless of club.

| Quote ="Theboyem"There hasn't been anyone on here encouraging Wakefield fans to write to the RFL though has there? So if a large amount of Cas fans write to the RFL and no Wakefield fans do that won't be balanced will it? If people say what they've seen then from both sides then, along with the independent reports, we might get somewhere near the truth. As i've put on the VT anyone would think world war 3 had broken out and it wasn't anything like. It was a small minority of drunken s from both sides who think they are hard and clever when they are neither. Both clubs should work together to get rid of them all 'cos neither team needs the bad press or can afford the fines'"
No but your own club have asked for fans to write in and I'm sure that it won't just be Cas fans accounts that will be taken into consideration. There are Match Commissioner, Stewards, Police etc to take into consideration.
As for your latter points - I concur completely.

Or alternatively, no statements whatsoever, no segregation. Allow Cas fans to sp themselves out across the stand and Wakefield fans to filter in around them. This would have prevented two extremely large groups of opposing fans standing opposite each other, some containing a few drunken idiots who no doubt naturally deliberately went to the middle to cause trouble and thus eliminating the situation that actually occurred.
This would have in all probability led to better stewarding and more control of the situation.
Blame RW all you want - his points were actually well made, whether you continue to dispute them or not.

Just roll over in bed, would you, and give him a nudge, ask him if he regrets making them.
For what it's worth, I agree that no comments about segregation should have been made, and the lets go north thing should have waited a week, but once we had raised it, we should have stuck to it. There were flames licking on the Cas forum about the Wakey stance. Dicky fanned them nicely.

A slap on the wrist for both clubs and a mandate from the RFL for both sides to quit the dick measuring contest thats constantly taking place and to work together to sort it out for futures games will do. Lets make sure it doesn't happen again.

That sums it up for me. It's the efforts made by Cas fans to pretend it was all those from the big city club that did it all that irritates. I suppose they have more to fear, given recent events, and they have to get through the Fev game yet.
The problem for both clubs is that we have numerous big club clashes with no problems, and then the two pariahs of the super league, as far as the RFL are concerned, get together and it kicks off.

| There has been one common factor in the most recent incidents of crowd trouble in our great game, even the thickos such as Lewis and Wood can work that one out. Fully you are without doubt a brown nose of the highest order where Wright is concerned, you are a joke.

| If Cas fans do respond to Fully's call to arms, any half-decent investigation will see it for what it is; a campaign of spin to deflect attention away from them. Childish and silly in my view and more likely to backfire than achieve the outcome they want.
As I've said before, both clubs deserve criticism for what happened during the build-up, with the CEO's in particular shouldering some of the blame; beyond that, the RFL themselves should accept that scheduling a heated local derby at 19:30 on a traditionally boozy bank holiday Friday night was a mistake.
Beyond that, both clubs and sets of fans should work together to out the yobs, ban them and assist the police with their investigation; if we start doing that now, it will go better for both of us.

| Bren, if you're going to spout rubbish at least get your facts right. I have told absolutely zero people to write in. I think you'll find that most, if not all fans, have written in of their own accord based on your own club's press releases.
As for kick off time, Wakey could have asked for an earlier kick off. Be interesting to know if an earlier kick off time was ever pursued?

Just as a matter of interest are you saying the line of stewards were there before any trouble started? When we arrived at about 7.25 we walked straight up the middle of the North Stand, exactly where all the trouble was to happen a little while later, and there were a couple of stewards at the bottom but there was no line of stewards and no segregation that I could see. We wouldn't have intentionally stood there had there been any signs off what was to come and I reckon a line of stewards might just have given that impression. For what it's worth the line of stewards appeared around and just after the first try was scored. If you saw any different I'd be interested to hear it as we were stood about 20 yards from where the majority of the trouble started.
I don't know how many times it has to be said while mistakes were made by certain people the only people to blame are those who took part and chose to bring shame on our sport and our respective clubs. To blame Glover, Elston, Wright or the guy selling beer is to deflect attention from the real problem which is mindless idiots who can't handle their beer. The continued sniping does not reflect well on either club or their supporters.

| JT: I arrived at 6:45pm. When I went in I walked as far as I could towards the posts. I half-expected to be stopped and be told you can go no further. Where we stopped was about 10m from the divide, the steps being the place where stewards were stood. I believe the Head Steward was there issuing instructions. There were certainly at least 5/6 stewards there at that stage. Certainly not enough for the volume of people. This increased as it drew nearer to kick off. When the problems started more stewards arrived and created the line that we had to stymie the trouble.
Ps: by line I meant where the stewards were clearly going to separate fans rather than just dotted around a stand.

Maybe it would have been better if you had not been allowed into the North Stand at all and directed towards the East Stand. But no, because that chairman of yours, who is the only reason I have a real dislike for your club, wanted to rant about how his supporters could stand where they liked, and if they wanted the North Stand, they could have the North Stand, or whatever.
The fixture has been 7.30pm for years. This years was stoked up for two reasons: our club's intention to segregate, which for some reason offended Cas fans, as if they were being deprived the full enjoyment of our wonderful stadium, and your chairman's insistence that they shouldn't. Dickie helped turn rivalry into ugliness.
Now get a move on, Fully, Dickie needs his shirts ironing.

I'm not sure I'm with you on this one when we arrived we walked straight to the middle of the North Stand there were a couple of stewards but they never asked us or told us anything once we headed up the steps we were free to head left or right and were not directed either way by anyone. We stood right at the top in the middle and events unfolded from there. From where we stood and from our experience in the ground there was no segregation before kick off. Even after the trouble started we were able to stand quite happily next to both Cas and Wakey fans at the top of the North Stand smack bang in the middle hardly segregation. It was then that folk from both Wakey and Cas decided to move further up the terrace to try and get to each other and we decided to move. I saw close up idiots from both sides acting in a pathetic, violent and dangerous manner you can dress it up how you like but the fault will still lie with those idiots.

| I arrived early with my 14 yr old grandson and stood behined the sticks two rows up at the north end.
To start with there were two stewards patroling the railings but they disappeared early and we did not see them again. There were two middle aged cas fans stood behined us shouting bad language throughout the match, all drinking pints and at the front on the railings were a gang of young cas lads about 14 year olds each with a bottle of WKD in each hand.
I have been watching wakefield on and off since the sixties and its the first time i have walked out of the gate to be met with a line of police and police vans and having to explain and dampen down the situation to my grandson.

| I was on holiday last Friday so saw nothing of what transpired but from previous experience I think I can pretty much say with certainty that it was not down to just one set of fans. If you don't allow yourself to get goaded into it then these things just simmer down and die away.
Doesn't really matter to me who started it, if the other club's fans wanted to be regarded as blameless then they should have ignored any attempts to drag them into it.
In reality both Wakey and Cas have some fans who drink much more than they are able to handle and as such lose their sense of perspective.
Will be interesting to see how the game at Post Office Road goes and if that passes off with no incident, bearing in mind the protested innocence of some of the Cas fans.

Quote from the casforum-
QuoteI hope my email is seriously taken note of.
This wasn't the Cas fans. This was the Wakefield fans. I happened to see a few of the singers in the Barmy Army filming on their phones. Does anybody know anyone that has that?
Quote from the VT-
I'm not saying both supporters weren't involved. But it's a futile argument - Cas fans believe Wakey fans threw the first bottle, Wakey other way. I didn't see. But the one I did see came from the Wakey end and the Cas fans retaliated. Both as bad each other.
I'd say that was a change of tact wouldn't you?
