| Just been having a scan of the docs on the application.
One thing that's just caught my eye is the number of representatives that will be called during the PI.
Yorkcourt- Calling 5 witnesses
WMDC- Calling 5 witnesses
Leeds City Council- Calling 2 witnesses.
So this will be a case of 10 positive testimonies versus 2 negative testimonies.
I've said for months that the case being put forward by the LCC is wafer thin, well this surely shows it for all to see.
Their cases will be based around greenbelt issues (part of the site will then be declassified) and the fact they dropped a similar development 10+ years ago (times change, as do gov requirements- NM will meet current/future targets), not to mention the environmental (despite Natural England not objecting to the development) and traffic concerns brought up by resident in the LCC. The only thread they clung onto was the traffic concerns & those have since been dealt with in conjunction with highways.
For me we should reiterate their response to Sheffield (which I do class as a BIG city, unlike Leeds) which went along the lines of: 
Not home and dry by any means, but closer than we've ever been and getting stronger by the day!! |

Get down to The Hague and travel into Amsterdam The Hague is a top place but off the tourist areas. |

No, far from it, my point was neither drugs or women of ill repute interest me, which was why I named other cities I have visited which I think are far more fun.
Munich was particularly good. Although when I visited it was the day of the 7.7 bombings, I ended up fixed to BBC news in the bar of a rather posh hotel. I sat down at about 8pm to get an update & befriended an English speaking businessman who was staying with his wife. We ended up going through a bottle of Jim Bean & setting the world to rights, rolling into our respective rooms about 3.30 am! I proceeded to be violently sick (which went down like a dream with the ex!) & at breakfast the following morning I could tell he'd been given as much a scorn as I had!
Moral of the story- if your going to be sick make sure you clear your partners suitcase!
Munich kicks ass though! In fact Munich for SL in 2018! |

We have opponents - that is a fact - and they have a voice and are organised, so whilst we can all dream of sitting in our seats in a couple of years time, =#BF0040please also make a note in the diary to be available to join us on the doorstep of the Town Hall on Dec 6th.

It will last for 12 days (aprox), with a date of 17th March 2012 provisionally set for submission to the secretary of state. At the moment the date for a decision to be made is still to be decided.
All I would say is read the outline of arguments being put forward for (by YC& WMDC) & against (by LCC). These documents are dated (9.2.2011) https://planning.wakefield.gov.uk/onlin ... CT8QQ04200
The case put forward by Yorkcourt is particularly impressive. Concise & (almost) watertight. Not only stating the need (as set out by central gov), but also how this site will meet the need, now and in the future, in a multitude of ways. They state how they have taken on board valuable advice by statutory agencies to make the site more ecologically sound and sustainable- again quoting government targets & policy. YC will be calling 5 witnesses, with WMDC calling another 5. So that's 10 in support.
While the LCC's is so thin it's almost invisible. They're going through the motions in order for the LCC mafioso's to get their "taste". Nothing goes on in Yorkshire without going through Leeds & when they don't get their own way they have a paddy! By kicking up a fuss they will be granted some sort of concession (permission for something similar/another planning favour)- Something for nothing IMO. Hence the reason they will be calling 2 witnesses. Now unless 1 of them is Johnnie Cochran I think we should be able to win the "hearts & minds".
Yorkshire [size=50(*cough*Leeds*cough*)[/size Forward were a perfect example of this bully boy culture in our fair county. They steamrolled anything the LCC needed/wanted & left Bradford & Wakefield with huge holes in the city, Barnsley without a college & countless other "unfinished" projects. Even in YF's dying days all they could do was rave about the Leeds Arena, ignoring the county they were meant to be regenerating at the expense of one city. Now I'm not laying all the blame on YF for all the failed/unfinished projects, but they could have done a lot more & spread the money around a hell of a lot more!
Newmarket will give us facilities to be proud of, maybe even right some wrongs in the "Big City" derby with Leeds in decades to come. Let's not forget we were the linchpin of this Riding, while they were just another carthorse village!

Its excellent except the bit about Yorkshire Forward. Its correct in that YF supported the Leeds Area when it was opposed by Sheffield but G Price Fan Club is not aware of the significant investment YF made throughout Yorkshire & Humberside. In Wakefield & District it supported and made significant investments in many projects including The Bull Ring, Wakefield Watefront, The Hepworth, Westgate to name just a few plus the Bridge in Castleford, Fryston & Wheldale Collieries, Frickley Colliery and other projects.
We however need everyone to be aware of Leeds CC attempt to block Newmarket which i can only assume is so they will benefit from the Enterprise Zone in the Aire Valley.
Most of West Yorkshire and Barnsley falls within the Leeds City Region whereby authorities are supposed to pull together for the common good - its about time Leeds realised that there is more to the Leeds City Region than Leeds itself. |

That's exactly my point, just without the chip I carry!
But from the actual tone of your post it's obvious you share my underlying issue: That from the point of view of the LCC Yorkshire is Leeds & Leeds is Yorkshire- everything else is subservient.
Most cities can boast recent regeneration that could not have happened without the assistance of YF. But the list of projects/developments that took place in Leeds eclipses any other.
As I said IMO unless they pull out "The Chewbacca Defence" I think we'll be able to put across a very good case across. |
