| Regardless of his finances (which im sure he will get sorted with a little time and hopefully at wakey) BROUGH is just quality.
I want him to stay as the guy is class and im pleased that he has attitude, if you take the attitude away then BROUGH wouldn't be the player he is today.
IMO he is the best halfback in ESL or on a par. I hope he stays as we will miss him as a club.

| Quote ="TRB"Could it be that he's telling you what you want to hear???
When Danny joined us we were an 'average' SL side who had only just escaped relegation and were far from certain of getting a SL licence. Since he joined we have moved heaven and earth to find a site / a developer and get the council support we need to get a new ground - and therefore guarantee our SL place.
In the meantime we have, year on year, improved our playing roster and, more significantly, we have started to see the break-through of the new crop of junior talent - again following year on year increases in investment in that area.
We CANNOT guarantee a place in SL from 2012 - it just can'e be done, but we can all see that the plans are there and EVERYONE knows how crucial these are to the future of this club.
IF Danny is worried about this aspect, then - come November - he can play where he likes, until then he can only move if we are prepared to let him go (which would have to be to OUR benefit).
[uUs lot on here are stuck with our club - whatever happens - for as long as we have one. We want people to buy in to what we are trying to deliver and if Danny doesn't want / can't do that, then
[/uI have the faith - and that will not be shaken by any players affairs!
'"
your right on that of course, but it is becoming hard to swallow the leaving of our better players to so called bigger clubs, and I suppose I have never until now accepted Shudds as a bigger club, atkins didnt bother me brough does. Atkins was replaced by a better player it would appear, brough is being replaced by it would appear cooke? Jury not even in on that one!
Wish I als wasnt feeling the hudds performance had something to do with all this , but i am.

| The club have seen DB as a priority signing since the end of last season. Talks have been going on for ages and there is no doubt the financial mess he got into had a significant effect on the negotiations. From what I hear everytime we had talks we seemed to meet a new obstacle. We would go away, work around it and then something else would be put in the way.
Now bearing in mind what happened with Griffin a few years ago and how he was turned, I do wonder how much crap shudds have put inside DB's head and how they may have exploited his financial problems to their ends. The truth will never come out but there is no doubt they have been chipping away behind the scenes for quite sometime

Talking of Drew I wonder if the players we get from Hudds will manage to play against them something Drew never did.
BJ to scrum half would be a bad move.

TBH I dont think Scrum Half and Stand off are not all that different, just one feeds it into the Scrum and the other doesnt. IF Brough is going i'm sure Cooke can direct the team around the field.

Again, assuming he does go and Cooke comes in - what, other than the number on their back, is the difference between a stand off and a scrum half? As long as 1 of them is a runner (BJ) and one of them is an organiser and distributor (Cooke) what difference does it make who feeds the scrum?
I would say Cooke could be just what we need, not the biggest fan of Brough - I think the negatives to a long way to cancelling out the positives, although Cooke is clearly not without issues. He knows how to control a game and organise a side (when he wants to of course) - look at Friday, how many times did we have 2 non ball playing forwards between where the ball is and the 3/4's when attacking in the second half? Why did we leave it so late in the tackle count for the drop goal we had to miss out the under pressure Brough and give it to Matty Blaymire? We need somebody to direct us round the park, and Cooke could just fit the bill in my opinion.

cooke for me should play at 13, i prefer the halfs to be more mobile than he is, hence needing another scrum half. I dont doubt Cooke could bring a lot to the table if his head is right

I disagree. Cooke is a pure organiser/distributer. He has not got the running capabilities to play 13 imo. To play him at 13 would give us too many playmakers on the field at once which has not worked well for us in the past. Plus with DB potentially going would see him play 6.

| I can except from a business point of view that it would be in our best interests to let Brough go now. But what I would find hard is if he went and we banked his transfer fee/salary and nobody replaced him. Cooke doesn't count as he is a replacement for Newton. Now if the rumors about Kirmond and Aspinwall are true I would think that would be a bit of good business. Rugby League is above all else a team sport, no one individual is that important not even Danny. We have enough game winners to win enough games to make the play offs. With Kirmond and Aspinwall we would have a really solid sqaud. Let hope we do see something out of this deal not just money down the black hole!

| Sorry guys - I am struggling to see how there can be any positive to DB leaving Trinity.
Sam Obst isn't DB and doesn't have the same quality or qualities... Obst was great on Friday but hasn't been as consistent this year as he would have liked/should have been... in fact he's had some pretty average performances this season (saints in particular).. some on here are very quick to forget this and he is now the best thing since sliced brown bread....
If we genuinely want to break in to the next bracket and challenge the bigger clubs we need players like DB at our club - THE BOY IS TOP CLASS. Albeit if the lads circumstances mean he has to leave ... so be it. Its a shame he is in a situation like he is (should it be true).

| Isn't kirmond out with a bad knee injury?
Agree with Crigg Cat though obst apart from friday has been dissapointing this season, however it seems all has been forgiven by most after putting in 1 decent performance, brough's out of the top drawer, and we need him to push onto the next level, talking of Finch, did anyone really notice him vs leeds. ?

Come on, you know the rules, anyone who leaves under a cloud is immediately the worst player of all time (Sculthorpe, Griffin...), whereas those who leave at the end of a contract or similar (Grix....) then it's the club's fault for not keeping these World Class future legends on our books!
