| I found the game pretty hard going today and far from a great spectacle. Weather was certainly a factor but not 100% behind this. I think the performance from both teams was very mediocre, the Hull fans I drove with to the match felt the same.
I thought Ganson was absolutely abysmal. He awarded Hull every high tackle we committed yet let so many committed by Hull go unpunished. I think he only awarded us penalties twice in the match for high tackles. One when our player was sparked out and the second when the merry flag waver came onto the pitch.
Both myself and accompanying Hull fans felt a lot of forward passes were missed along with not square at play the balls. In addition there were two blatant obstructions he missed.
People will say it evens up over the match but this is one where I felt it most certainly did not.
Take nothing away from FC I felt they deserved their victory, over 80 minutes they were the better team even though we nearly nicked it.
Our improvement in the match was for me very noticeable when Kyle Wood came on. I think he probably justifies starting in the next match rather than coming off the bench.
All in all, a tough match in poor weather conditions and a heavy pitch. We need to grind out results and hopefully as the team gels that will come.

Have to agree about Ganson, he missed lots of stuff for both sides and on several occasions seemed to ignore/overrule his own touch judges who had a better view of the incidents than he did!

| Quote ="fullofhope"I dont know if it is the wildcats fans in general or just the majority that post on this forum however it is apparent that when you reflect on the game you appear happy to be treated to mediocrity.
Yes we defended well but we wouldnt of had to especially in the first half if we didnt make so many errors and if we had a decent kicking game, forget about the Hull of the past today they looked like a poor team and there attacking was weak put a half decent side against us and we would have been punished.
At what stage does the excuse of the team needing to gel finish 10 games in 15, i know i sat and watched the game and was bored i appreciate all the i will call them excuses because that is what they are have a place but purely based on todays game that was a poor performance against a poor team.
How long do we give the likes of John time to find his feet before we realise he is not good enough it is odvious currently Wood offers much more yet we persist in the hope that he will come good aside from the kick against Bradford i havent seen anything to suggest John does any more than a competant amateur could do.
There are many more points i could find but the diehards on this forum just seem to defend its no different to the Richardson era comments like "he has stuck by us" etc etc great but that doesnt mean he wasnt holding us back but the simple minded approach is you support your team through thick and thin, my argument is i pay to attend a sporting event and i want to be entertained i struggle to take any entertainment from it.
I also understand that i could do other things on a sunday and i have no doubt i will but today i didnt and was treated to very little in the way of entertainment.'"
Well you're certainly full of something and it's not hope. What do you expect in these conditions! Even if you don't accept that argument there is a more obvious reason we are not winning - and let's be honest if we'd won you wouldn't be moaning.
The level heads on hear have been saying for month not to expect much this season - brand new coach and brand new team. Yet some continually fail to listen and expect miracles - a narrow defeat away to Hull FC IMO is a good performance if not a good result.
This season it's performance that matters. Then maybe next season we turn performances into results. Surely nobody believes you can go from last years wreckage to SL contenders that quickly, what drugs are they on.
We are doing OK but need a result to go our way, shame then we play our bogey team next week. Now there will be a true barometer of where we are.

| We have tons more talent than last year and iam sure we will come good with what we have got. Last year when we lost we got truely blown away. That is not happening with this lot. Remember they have only had 4 SL games together. As summer comes our attack will come iam sure. With our halves, backs and Ali we have loads of strike. A small side like ours will always find it hard in the mud. Wait till it gets fast!

I would also add that you look far fitter than last couple of seasons, when you had the likes of Paul King looking as though they'd dined out on nothing but Kebab and fried Mars Bars all week!

| The only thing I can agree with the OP about is Kyle Wood; for me, he's a much more suitable partner for Smith's style of play and should be starting.
As for Ganson - less said the better; he lost the plot today.

| We are still a bit off where we need to be yet and to be honest the next three fixtures are going to be tough. I think how we handle three of the top six teams will tell us where we are as a team. Last year we would have probably get a couple of towellings in those. Lets see how far we have come.

| At 14 nil down I was a bit miffed and expected the heads to go down even worse than last week and subsequently a big tally to come. What happened after has filled me with a bit more hope.
I've just watched 'Senna' to cheer me up -

| Thought the weather didn't help with are "small pack" and hull having one of the biggest in the SL. but overall there was many positives and i loved how we never gave in, last season it would of been a whitewash. fitness levels was super, and the goaline defense was playoff standard. just need this kicking sorted for me wood did well with the boot today.

| I didn't get chance to go to the game yesterday due to work but from reading the forum and listening to some of the commentary it looks like it was more evidence that we still need a big number 8 to give us some real go forward to get out of our own half.
We also still look like we need someone to kick the goals and help with field position. Start with Wood at 6 and get him to kick the goals.

Why, Wood has never kicked goals before. I'm sure if he was any good then he'd already be doing the job. I imagine they've have all had a go at training and Issac John is the best of a bad bunch otherwise someone else would have taken over by now. Major recruitment error but it looks like we are stuck with it.

| One big plus from todays game was that our lads looked like they could have played for another 40 mins, fitness levels look excellent.
Cockayne, Mathers and young Wood all very impressive and forwards stuck to their task pretty well agains a much larger pack.
Our kicking game was woeful until Wood entered the fray and he cant be too far off the starting 13.

Funny that because that team of cast offs' and no hopers we had last year beat all 3 of the sides we have lost to already this season, and in case it has escaped your attention we have the Giants up next another team we beat last season. Just a thought really

Means nothing, much has changed, almost everything for the better, but anyone with a brain knows that 10 we are playing better rugby and 2) the player need time to gel.
Keep the faith, what matters is that we keep moving forward, keep improving and things will look after themselves.

| John needs time, maybe on the bench next game and Wood to start. Look at Rangi Chase when he first joined Cas, he looked like a poor mans Tommy Lee. I'd take the kicking conversions duties off him and use him like we have been using Wood, John had got some skill he has shown signs. Smith needs to do a lot more though or I'd be looking to drop him too.

BJs first year was a nightmare, people (us!!) forget these kids (and that is what they are) have travelled half the way round the world to work in a different country.
Reality check, stick with him, if he's as good as we hope, with the support of the club it will show.

| If you set your stall out pre season to go with a lightweight mobile pack then you can't really expect much out of a game when you play away from home against possibly the biggest side in the league in the pooring rain.
Judge the pack on a dry track with the sun beating down when the forrards generally start to flag.

| Catalan have a big pack and they perform and have the sun down on their backs most of the summer. We'll be mobile but you need some real grunt up front when you're making the hard yards out of your own half. Don't think we can rely on big packs getting tired/being short of pace. Is Southern really up to playing out of position at prop? What do his stats say?
If there is the money we've got to recruit another out and out big 1st class prop and if Wood can't kick goals as good as his positional kicking then we need another quality centre/winger who is a proven goal kicker to make most of each try/penalty. Otherwise we'll finish just above Widnes which will be disappointing with the talent in the team.
There is some hope as we haven't won a game since Amor got injured. He made significant yardage in the game at Widnes and gave that penetration and go forward. Hopefully he's back in the next couple of weeks.

I think he'll play wherever he's asked and give 100%, but I'd rather see him back where he belongs; at this point, I'd even consider recalling Matt James, for a bit of size and power up the middle - nothing fancy, just cart it up until Amor is fit.

| Let's face it, most realistic fans will be happy if we improve on last year and if we're in with a chance in most games with 10 to go then I'm sure we'll all be happier. Things will improve in time as the players gel better and the sunshine comes ( will it ever ? ). I liked the way we stuck in there on Sunday until the end, they will always get my support 100% if they give their all. I've seen us throw the towel in many times before and come home short changed but at the moment despite the 3 defeats I am still hopeful and optimistic with Amor due back. ( Agar said this week might be too soon but the week after a possibility )
Unfortunately, some fans of all sport are fickle and look for too many reasons sometimes why their team are getting beat. Just one of those things I guess, someone has to lose. We just have to learn to turn those close games into wins and the fickle supporters and constant moaners might just look on the bright side for once.
Keep supporting the team and the rewards will come and when they do they will taste all the more sweeter cos you stuck by your club. I love this team and have done for 40 years and whenever we win any game I get a sense of pride. Onwards to Sunday, let's see what it brings, you never know we just might win! And that's it for me, that anticipation, that uncertainty, that hope will never die.

let's face it, most people say that but when push comes to shove moan and whinge and get frustrated when results don't start coming in.
it's a tough battle for the hearts and minds of the casual supporter, for people that come on here a have a deep seated love of trinity it's not an issue but we're not the ones that the club need to attract, we're already hooked.

| I understand what other supporters above are saying and I have been hooked on Wakefield since I went and saw them in the 1979 Challenge Cup Final as a boy. It also led to me playing the game for 20 years.
Whether a casual or loyal supporter there is a need for Wakefield to have a vision and a drive for constant improvement but balancing it within a realistic budget. This will lead to more loyal and less casual support.
This appears to be a very talented team with a quality coach and a committed owner. Like many fans have stated before it is clear that we are short of just two types of player to make a big difference to the results and it is a powerful prop and a proven kicker who may also be used as a utility outside back.
I just hope R.A. is looking at these issues which he appeared to be doing at the beginning of the season (Prop) from some of his press releases.
