Absolutely disgraceful comment.
It's good that wasn't the attitude of the fans and staff of Salford that stayed behind to watch the academy game when young Declan Brereton looked very seriously injured. Glad to say I heard he was released from hospital this morning.

| I thought it was a decent run out for us all things considered - would have been happy before the game if somebody had told me that we would be within a handful of points at the end of the game, but the fact is we could (and SHOULD) have won that game with the second half performance. We had more than our fair share of possession and created a number of chances that we should have been good enough to finish like Salford did in the first half.
Overall, plenty to be positive about on the performance if you ignore the scoreline. McShane showed how good he is and was probably the best player on the park, Godinet showed up very well and so did Tauti. Wingers should really be catching those balls - I counted at last 2 dolly's that were dropped with the line begging. We aren't going to get many clear cut chances against the better teams
Overall, after we weathered the predictable early storm from Salford we played very well in the second half right up until the last pass/catch on a few occasions, and out of the 2 coaches Agar will be much, much more pleased than Noble.

| Well done to Wakefield yesterday. Only came down to 2 missed conversions and was a game that could have gone either way in the end. Thought Paul McShane was the best player on the park by a country mile. I think its fair to say that in the first 20-25 minutes our forwards completely dominated with Morley and Tasi, In fact you didn't get into our half in the first 15 minutes. But what killed us wasn't the loss of Rangi, but the movement of Tommy Lee to half back. With Howarth at dummy half, the distribution to the half backs slowed completely.
On the subject of Rangi, having seen the replay of the incident, he tripped over Collis trying to get back, and fell into Fox, tripping him up, and injuring himself in the process. Wasn't a deliberate trip at all, just an unfortunate collision resulting in the injuring of one of our key players.
2nd half was a completely different story. We just couldn't get the ball which resulted in giving away penalties, giving you more possession, then gifting you a try (Godinet interception). You noticeably changed your game plan attacking our edges getting at Smith and Walton on one side, and Sa'u on the other. Full credit to your coaching staff for this.
Overall an enjoyable game, both teams have areas to improve on, but a great turnout from both sets of supporters. Good luck for the rest of the season. Can see you competing for a top 8 finish on that display.

FWIW (and on my one and only viewing) I think Chase did appear to raise his leg(s) as he was falling, ensuring that Fox ran in to them. You could argue though that you got a better deal than Chase being sent off, as we replaced him with Howarth...
As regards Agar being the happier of the two coaches, this should clear that one up:
"I am absolutely delighted with the win and delighted with the day" - Brain Noble
"I'll be going home disappointed " - Richard Agar
Great to see so many fans from Wakefield. It was our biggest crowd at the stadium and as far as I'm concerned the only time we have had any sort of atmosphere.
Please don't go away with the impression that we think we are genuine trophy contenders (you will always get a couple of big mouths creating the wrong impression). We are just happy to have a team to support, and one who actually looks like it may be worth supporting. Sometimes, some people get a bit carried away with themselves.
Best of luck for the season ahead.

I would agree with you if it were any other player in SL, the overwhelming majority of players play hard and deserve huge respect, including I guess Declan. I cannot think of anyone else who intentionally goes out to attack other players. A nasty piece of work who deserves what he gets.
I am sorry if my opinion offends you, but I would personally rather see his career ended before he ends that of one of a decent person, which can only be a matter of time.

Thanks for your honesty.
He did raise his legs as he was going to ground which caused him to have to leave the field and probably cost us a try.
Only Chase himself knows if he was trying to trip Fox, so we will never know.
It does look as though Koucash has started something of a revolution but, it will take plenty of time and breaking into the top 4 is going to be far more difficult than he is perhaps expecting,
Certainly, plenty of cash, plus ambition will get you over the first couple of hurdles but, Wigan, Wire, Saints & Leeds aen't just going to disappear so Dr K may need something that he hasn't displayed yet, patience.

| Personally like Salford and their supporters. They deserve some success and in Dr Koukash they have a passionate and well driven leader. I listened to him talk after the game yesterday and he was obviously over the moon with the win but also very complimentary towards MC and Wakefield.
Chase didn't deliberately trip Fox, he fell over and they collided, it happens. Personally I thought yesterday was a brilliant way to open the season. Over 7k, with a large away following. The game could have gone either way and it's great to see Salford fans optimistic about the season in a cracking stadium. Hopefully NM will help us in a similar fashion.

| I wouldn't wish a serious injury on anyone, even Chase, but it's very hard to find any sympathy for him.
Apart from his trip he got away with two swinging arms to the head right in front of the Trinity fans, the players remonstrated quite openly with Child after one of them.

This. I like Salford, always seen them as a bit like us but on the wrong side of the hills (surrounded by bigger/wealthier clubs but always manage to stand their corner) Nice to see them on the up for once.

| Nice stadium, but did anybody have problems getting out? it took us 75 minutes to get out of the car park which was less than it took to get home there after.Good job wasn't on nights. Cant see how they are going to cope with 10000 plus crowds.

Excellent post, thank you. I too thought Koukash spoke very highly of Michael Carter and the Wakefield club in general. I think Wakefield will surprise a lot of teams this season, yes you've lost good players but you have replaced them with some very good ones too. I can honestly see you pushing for a top 8 spot.

I know it's of little help now, but may be worth considering next time you visit. Instead of parking on-site and paying £5 as well as waiting a while to vacate, use either the Barton Aitport (directly adjacent the entrance to the stadium) or Eccles RLFC is 15 minutes walk (5 min walk from the motorway roundabout). Parking at either of these locations will see you off and on your way in minutes.

Found myself a lovely quiet spot just round the corner from Eccles RLFC. Guiford Road. Straight up through Worsley and join the motorway further up. No traffic. Nice suburban street. That's my spot for years to come now.

I understand yor caution... But it remains that by hook or by crook, I think this is the best squad Agar has had at his disposal... Hats of to Taulima too impressive showing at prop!

Yeah, I'd pretty much accepted that this year we would be lucky to avoid 2nd bottom. Based on the second half of the off season and the Salford game, it looks like I might be pleasantly surprised.

| Good to hear Pita is off to a solid start over there.
He will get things worked out and be controlling a lot of the play with whoever your other on field directors are.
It's Godinet's style to bark at the Forwards and backs in any team he's played in. That will come. As will taking the line on and playing the ball at the line ( didn't see the game so can't comment ).
If he doesn't work out the NZ Warriors would have him back in a blink.
Good to read he got an intercept , sharp reader of the play is Pita. Expect more of that and some chip Kicks over the top when the Fullback is up flat.

| Yes Mt S. Godinet had a very good debut & seemed to link up well with Paul Mcshane our new Hooker, they got plenty of quick play the balls out wide where we were doing most damage against the Reds.
Looking foward to him partnering up with Jarrod Sammut in the not too distant future ( hopefully tonights game with Bulls ) This is on TV over here so you`ll probably get to watch Pita & see how hes settling in over here.

We only get one ESL game ( delayed on Maori TV per week ) here in NZ. I'll keep reading the posts on here and track his progress till it's Wakey's turn to have a game played here ( this weeks match is Leeds and Wire ).
I've read with interest people mentioning Summut strengthening your Line up , Stand off is he ?
Great you have an inform hooker , Pita is good at getting people on the front foot ( It's how he was used at hooker from the bench here , to speed up the ruck ) if Mcshane is doing that already Pita is more likely to hold his spot in the halves where he plays his best Footy.
Good you have big Ali too , he and Pita have played together before ( only one game I'm aware of Samoa V NZ 2010 ) they seemed to spark off each other . Ali being every Samoan Rugby league player from his generations idol ( Sonny Bill Williams was interviewed here...by the All Black Media when he played for them , he named Ali as his inspiration / footballing role model ).
I hope the Old fellhas legs still get him around the park , he has magic hands.

Thanks I will have a look at whatever I can get my hands on.
Sounds like Pita passed the all important ' Will he fit in' test , well thus far in any case. Debut's are important for new guys hey , you can't underestimate the importance of the noob showing they have the right attitude and something to contribute to there team mates.
Interesting watching Sam Tomkins trying to do the same here. You have to love sport , so many imponderables.
One thing I've said before about Godinet is that he never got a chance at Halfback for our first grade squad ( two half games pulled off for Shaun Johnson to return from being on the naughty bench by two different coaches ) that's all Pita got.
Ten or twelve games as an impact hooker. Even then they dumped him after two flat games ( ignoring the eight or ten dynamic games in a row he had put in for the Warriors). Wakey struck a chord right at the right time with the right player.
Great score.

As you already pointed out we are covered at hooker so I see can't see anything but a full season in the Scrum Half leadership role.
I like what I've seen so far. Tonight will be a big game for him as he has a halfback partner that is new to the club but if they click it could be massive for the club.
I've followed your comments and he looks very much like you described. The interception try came about when he was charging in to tackle a forward and saw the opportunity. He doesn't lack bravery in defense and he has great spped and passing ability.
Looking forward to him taking us on a entertaining journey this year.

Thanks Pop Tart , gee games don't look so bad when you see them in highlights.....you miss a lot of the other frustrating bits that happen over the eighty minutes.
Hopefully things pick up for the team. I will catch the highlights V Wigan.
