How many times do people need reminding that despite the fact that we have been hovering about 8th all season we do not have the attendances, turnover or facilities to compete with the big boys and tbh the expectation that we should regularly do better than 8th - 10th is a little naive.

This is the frustration I and probably others have with peole who continue to back Kear. It is as much the type of rugby and performance as not winning. We shouldn't be getting beat by 30-40 points as often as we are and the one out rugby is boring and mostly ineffective.

Add to that that Kear is touting himself around for any job going and that is why his time is up IMO

Indeed; not to mention his new habit of appearing in front of the cameras after each increasingly abysmal performance to say "that's not good enough - playing like that, we don't deserve to be in the top 8" etc etc. Saying that it was awful doesn't absolve you, [uthe head coach[/u, of any responsibility for its awfulness!

Yes and he doesn't seem to have the answers to the same issues that have been there for at least 2 to 3 months. The odd win here and there seems to appease a section of our support and lull them into a false sense of the corner has been turned.

We know that whilst not the best squad in the league that the players we have are capable of much better performances than they are regularly putting in - so surely we need to find a coach who is able to get that more consistent form out of them whilst introducing them to some of the basics of the game, which under kear seem to have largely been forgotten lately such as :

moving up to meet the opposition in defence
dummy runners and backing up the ball carrier
draw a man before you pass the ball
stand deeper so that when you take the ball up you are running at speed before you meet the opposition defence

That's my point any man alive can say 'go out there lads and let's see 3 drives 2 scoots and a kick.' 'It's over when they score 2 unanswered tries as we are rubbish and not top 8 material.'

We've shown we have the squad to challenge, beating Leeds and running Leeds and Saints away very close is no mean feat. All we lack is a little something only a good coach or captain can provide.

Why not get someone who'll be cheap and leave money for players/ground improvements?

If you go any cheaper then you get Tony Smith, Peter Roe or John Harbin. Who was the coach when we ran Leeds and Saints close and beat Leeds?

I loved Harbin, although his salary under Dowie these days will be well in excess of what we paid him. At least when he was in charge you could class 85% of the fixtures as entertaining and worth the entrance fee most of the times. Sadly at the moment, who would pay £20 to watch the 80 minute borefest that goes on currently.

I agree that the games were interesting under Harbin but I think that was more due to the threat of relegation than the quality of rugby on show. I have to say I found the majority of games last year boring as well but there didn't seem too many people saying it last year. I'm not saying that Kear is the answer but I'd like to see the options before getting rid. That said if we really are on the way out as it seems we might be then I say to hell with it sack Kear and run a raffle on here each week as to who picks the team would certainly liven up the games and maybe even the forum as well!

Agreed, but same question that always crops up - how many years of immunity did the "great escape" buy Kear?

It doesn’t buy him any immunity, the fact that since his arrival the club have improved year on year until this season provides the grace afforded to Kear in the eyes of some fans.

It may be he has hit a wall as it seems things are not getting better and the players are still making the same mistakes they were at the start of this slump, but in my view his has earned the chance to resolve this.

One thing is for sure we won’t see it this season which is now a write off. Even if the club pull off a victory against Saints they will come back down to earth with a bang against Huddersfield the following week.

My comment was in response to the "game, set & match" one above - it was said as though there was no need for discussion. I agree that the season is almost a right off (but really do hope we are both wrong and we pull something from the bag) - but I differ with you over the steady improvement.

I think we have stagnated for at least 2 years now, we played teams at the right time last year and accumilated points early doors before going on the midseason slump - and showing ourself up in the play offs. We got to the semi final of the cup (through the luckiest draw possible) and again failed to perform.

Kear has brought in the personnel he wanted and for one reason or another we are now in the lurch.... 1 man takes responsobility for on field actions and just as he deserved all the praise in the world after the great escape he deserves to be under the microscope when things continue to go badly.

And don't forget he seems to be throwing his hat into the ring for coaching jobs too, so the loyalty card is questionable - it has to work both ways.

there is always need for discussion, what im saying is pretty much what KK said. we have improved year on year under JK but this year have come unstuck, but for all the people baying for his blood right now they werent so bothered when we had Tronc, Brough and suppose Newton and the results were going are way for one reason or another those players left and the team had to regroup, that regrouping as gone tits up but surely he deserves the chance to put things right
