Churlish - we would love to have a centre as good as Shenton at this moment in time

I believe Shenton requested to be released from the final year of his contract. He was still living in Yorkshire and travelling to St Helens every day and wanted to be working nearer to his home. Saints knew they had the option of signing Jordan Turner so this suited everyone.

| We had one... Dean Collis. And hardly churlish just stating what I saw from Shenton today. I think he's a decent player but I don't think he's ever been as good as he was in his first spell at Cas.

He's twice the player he was compared to his first spell. He was a decent defensive centre now he's improved his attacking abilities, will beat a man, puts trys on a platter for carney whilst still being high quality in defence. Today shanny was quiet. He's shut Watkins down twice this season. For me shenny and Watkins are the best two English centres.
As for wakey, why the hell is tansey being used as a winger!?! Especially when your full back goes off!?! Some of wakeys forwards impressed me today, that podgy walker, and Anderson, but the backs and halves were woeful.

Mcshane has signed for CAS so I have been told tonight so that would explaine why he seemed to be laughing and joking with there fans for most of the second half.

I'm not saying you are wrong but we are very well served for hookers (if you can call them that) without adding Mcshane who i do rate highly.

| That's Collis and McShane both going to Cas or with the latter is it Widnes or Hull. I love the "I saw him smile to the away supporters" hence he is obviously joining them and not trying his best. I am sure both Smith and Carter will be aware who is going and where, can you blame any we have not offered any contracts and they all have families.
I guess we the supporters will be the last to know so the rumours will just continue unabated.

Agreed. Tansey would have gone to FB for me. Miller has been impressive in the halves for the last couple of games and should have stayed there.
Smith, apart from a couple of passes out of the top drawer was woeful!
Walker, Anderson, Simon and Mullally were good but the symptoms of heads dropping and no leadership were quite evident again.
I've said elsewhere that Cas did not have to be special to beat Wakefield but the enthusiasm and teamwork is there for all to see. they play with heart and we don't. simple as that!

| With regards the game, i thought we were the better side for the first 20.
Scrutons pathetic attempt on Millington, followed by Ali's crazy offload, put Cas in a game that they didnt deserve to be in. The 15 mins after halftime was a mixture of rank bad defending, a couple of 50/50's not going our way and credit where it is due, Cas playing very well. They literally blew us away.
We are crying out for some on field leadership, something we have been lacking all season and i don't see where it is going to come from?

| At the game of course I was disappointed, mainly because I expected better
Now, thinking about it, there were still good things for us in that game and it really didn't matter whether we lost by 2 or 32, it's the performance that matters. We are not going to play Cas again. We are playing Widnes, Hull KR, Salford, Leigh, Bradford, Sheffield and Halifax. Not the same at all.
In all honesty, we controlled the first half well as a team and having the big forwards on really gave us good go forward, which we've lacked all season.
It was individual errors that let them back in and then they blitzed us either side of half time.
Obviously there was a howler for one try but the second and third were all about defensive team work and we just didn't do it well.
Scruton was at fault for not sliding for Millington's try which gave Millington his run in the first place, and then when he did get there and made the tackle, there was lots of time for another player to come in and put Millington down, rather than leave Scruton wrestling with the line vulnerable. Cas in the same situation would have had three in that tackle. Silly mistakes but we have to plug them.
I can also remember McShane having to run past Walker to make a tackle because he didn't slide with the defence. That needs to be picked up. No one notices Walker not moving, they just see McShane grabbing at a tackle and sometimes missing when he was actually busting a gut to get there,
They are little things but cost us against Cas. They are good at exploiting those kind of errors and we gave them over willingly.
That needs to be rectified. Possibly by team changes
Scruton, Anderson, Simon, Walker were all good with ball in hand, and in the middle defence. That alone would kill a lot of the teams in our play off games. Ali showed up but was getting a bit wild with passes. If Miller were at half back or Godinet playing I reckon we'd have benefited from him rather than looking at his wild pass giving a try away.
For all Lyne is taking some criticism for his defence, he stopped Carney quite a few times one on one in the first half. Johnstone showed what he is good at and we need to get him more ball.
Locke being injured really didn't help us on a day when we had no backs on the bench and no forwards really capable of filling in. Howarth and McShane were put in the backline and it caused problems. With hindsight having Ryan on the field would have sorted that out. We now know we have to do that. We could have then left Miller at half back and had some extra attack rather than Smith just firing passes that were limited by the quick defence.
We need to sort out who plays half back, but right now, Miller has to be the lead, not Smith.

| I hear we had 6,000 in the ground yesterday. Good for the bank account. Have to say it was more to do with Cas than us though.

Is that a typo PT, only 4000 there yesterday and probably 2500 from Cas.
Wakefield fans, like the team, waiting for the middle 8's, maybe ?

| Sorry but the four try showing against Warrington has clouded a lot of people's minds. Miller does not know how to lead the team around, he has no kicking game his passing is alright but I'll concede his defence has got better. Tim is the sort of half who can only play well when the pack gets on top e.g in 2012 & 2013 we saw what he could do with a decent set of forwards. This bunch of forwards I have to say don't cut the mustard, but granted they were let down mostly by Tansey and Lyne on Sunday.
As for on field leaders getting rid of Mathers and Sykes at the same time was criminal. Not the best ability wise, but certainly excellent in marshalling the troops.

I doubt it. Most have probably gone to watch Cas Leeds or Hudds or stopped watching RL all together.

| Wonder if it would be worth Miller and Smith switching positions,Miller having played well at scrum half of late would also give Smith that bit more time at stand off to do something as at the moment apart from a few good passes per game he has been poor. Thought we might have put Tansey at fullback after Locke went off and left Miller where he was.
