The cynical ones amongst us, never thought that we would move to a new ground before Cas and that it would be 2 new grounds or none.
Of course, the gaol posts have moved, with regard to stadium requirements in SL and who knows, we may eventually see something for our club but, after so many knock backs and false/broken promises it is difficult to believe that anything will happen.

Fair do's TRB - I'll trust your right on that one.
I still don't think WTW fans should feel threatened though on such a trivial thing as owning a few shares.

I don't think that its ownership of just a few shares that is the issue, it's more about even-handedness and large projects of this type usually need the people at the top to drive things forward and occasionally bang heads together.
Can the people of Wakefield rely on the council leader to do this or, will the project succeed in spite of who is in power ?

| Whilst I still take great issue with a number of issues to do with WMDC, the columns need some balancing:
1 They have upheld the newly imposed clause which states that any housing on BV can only go ahead when the club is in NM playing.
2 Subject to enough people signing the e-petition we are confident that they will grant us ACV status on BV
3 We would not have planning at all at NM without them a) passing the plans themselves and b) funding the PI
4 They provided finance to allow the detailed plans for NM to be drawn up.
Now I'm not saying that they should be given a halo, but they are also not the devil incarnate.

Isn't it the design originally intended for Salfords ne stadium.
Agree it would be a superb asset to the City and our club but

| It seems clear there isn't going to be a City of Wakefield Community Stadium; WMDC have totally distanced themselves from any involvement, and the silence from our elected representatives is deafening - they were too busy pouring water on each other at the Cas ground to respond to any messages. Meanwhile, the formidable Sir Rodney is uncharacteristically quiet and the Trust are pushing a petition to stop BV from being sold out from under the club.
I'd suggest that what's happening right now are increasingly desperate attempts to get some money - *any money* - out of YC to tart up BV, and that's where we'll stay; another false start to add to the ever-growing list.

/\ this = pure speculation!
I can understand people inventing stuff when we were frustratingly putting so little out there, but until such time as someone says we can cross all the hurdles to create a new BV then we cannot / will not relinquish what we have, which many consider to be nothing, but at the other end of the scale it's an agreement to build a stadium in return for PP. It still stands as that, whatever else may have happened since!

| To be quite honest I think the whole concept of a new stadium or a revamp of belle cue for us will remain a fantasy for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately until someone comes in with the money or funding is secured externally, to build or do up a stadium, which is a considerable sum then im afraid nothing is going to change!
Personally I think the fact that wakefield has not got a modern stadium for the community, accessible and in or near the City centre is a travesty.

Totally agree we could end up (best case scenario) complete new stadium or (worse case scenario) having nowhere to play and no home. It is certainly going to be an important few months for the future of Wakefield Trinity and pro sport in the City.

| At one time wasn't there talk of a casino / gaming complete incorporated into the stands at newmarket did that fall through ? Also no bowling alley in Wakefield anymore + there was talk of a indoor water park @ newmarket and anyone who's been to Barnsley metrodome will see how popular that is, even sun lane baths is packed most of the time. Are these avenues still being pursued and of its a definite no to newmarket can any be transferred to Belle Vue development?

| When you look around the country at the number new stadiums, sports facilities, running tracks, 3Gs and various other leisure facilities it's embarrassing to then see the Wakefield District in comparison.
There are much smaller Cities than Wakefield not to mention Towns, even Villages and communities that have managed to provide state of the art facilities for the use of their professional and amateur sports clubs.
While our Council and its leader are allowed to hide behind the '3 Clubs in our area' excuse and wash their hands of any responsibility for the issue we will never improve our situation. It is quite simply pathetic on their part that nothing has been done in the WMDC for decades!
Other Councils have had the foresight to steer potential developer like Tesco, Asda for example, in the direction of a sports club and have insisted that any development includes a stadium etc. Wakefield on the other hand have missed that boat on a number of occasions and when the opportunity rose again they botched the agreement and allowed the Developers legal team to run rings around them. Now our inglorious Council leader has washed his hands of the affair rather than bringing pressure on the developer to do the right thing, the conspiricy theorist in me wants to ask why?
I'll make this prediction, unless we are the beneficiaries of some philanthropist we will not achieve any significant progress with regards to a stadium. The results of which will be the loss of our SL status, a slow decline into Championship mediocrity and eventually past the point of no return a la Oldham, maybe even a Wakefield RU type cease of existence.
Very dark and depressing I know but I just don't see where the intervention is going to come from short of philanthropy.
Box and his co Councilors can point in as many directions as they like, they can blame the recession, claim we are a private company, use the 3 club excuse, say they've helped when really they've done little to nothing whatever!
It doesn't change the fact that they've allowed Wakefield to become a joke in comparison to the many other Cities and Towns around the country.

| Unbelievable that a city the size of Wakefield has no professional football team. No professional Rugby Union team and a Rugby League team struggling to stay in business. I don't think you can entirely blame the council for that. The apathy of the Wakefield public is the main problem They would rather pay 600 quid a year for Sky Sports and sit in the armchair than pay 220 quid for a Trinity season ticket and experience live sport.

Whilst there is some truth in that, it is also fair to say that the apathy comes from a generation or more of poor management, lack of investment and any real success on the pitch. I consider us remaining in SL for so long a success, and I've loved much of it, but for the majority - the glory supporters that we need so dearly - it is not enough to win one in 3 games and risk getting stuffed on too many occasions!
The council, as suggested in Avengers post - have dodged the issue on every occasion presented and, in all truth, have missed any opportunity for attachment with a supermarket as not many of these get built these days and Wakey is effectlively held to ransom by Sainsburies who, if they pull the plug on Trinity Walk, would see the whole site collapse into a mess.
Avengers post is spot on Peter - you have hidden far too long, but you have a chance still to make right the wrongs that have occurred! Help us stop YC running rough-shod through our district until they pay up on NM. We will do a deal for BV, but only with the securing of BV and SB; the right funding deal and Planning Permission guaranteed! If anyone of those are not in place, then we cannot deliver BV and there is no deal! We will fight this cause! You read this forum, so please take note!
We do not want to fight, but we will and we must. An injustice has been served - so far - and it needs to be put right!
We have a document that states that in return for PP for NM, we get a stadium. I ask what has changed and why should we settle for anything less??
