I think we should be looking to offload Sammut if possible and use his wage on a interchange hooker, and a utility back.

It could well be that Webbo see's it the same as you do regarding Sammut, unfortunately if nobody wants him that will prove difficult, having said that what is the point of getting rid of him if there is nobody available what can do a better job than him, and fwiw I don't see any.

Whilst I wouldn't chose to move Godinet to hooker, I think Sammut at 6 with Godinet playing at 9 seems to be the likely configuration. A quartet of Sammut, Smith, McShane and Godinet has the potential to be extremely productive, especially playing behind the pack Webster has recruited

If you watch Rugby AM when he first signed for us he makes a very interesting comment.

In his words there were a "A couple of top 4 clubs in for him" and offered him something but the only teams that could fit him under the cap for the 2014 season was London and Wakefield.

Now I don't think much has changed in that time with those clubs.

I would say so too, but if Sammut is still in Webster's plans why wasn't he using him last season?

Don't think he's in his plans.

He did sporadically, but without wanting to cover old ground he had better options, next season he hasn't.

I like Sammut but putting him along side Smith makes for a very weak half back partnership in defence.
Teams can target two holes in our line.

When Godinet plays there, or Sykes as he did last season, you have a strong front on tackler which limits the weakness.

Same applies with Sammut at hooker but you can spell McShane and limit Sammut's time with the bonus of a super fast dummy half runner.
We shall see. It's nice to have options but Smith and Godinet is the way to go for me.

Said before think became a dad during the season so could have been that was entitled to paternity leave and with us safe we made a decision to Let him bond with the child now then get straight into preseason and next season.

If sammut as been working on is defence wile not playing he as all the skills to play 1,6,7 or 9 and if we are going with a small squad some one who can do a good job in any of them positions could be priceless

The few times I have seen him play FB he has been absolutely dreadful, he is error prone as it is and putting him there makes for a disaster.

Owen depends on the deal to me. On cheaper wages I'd take him but not on the reported Cas wages

Maybe that's why the announcement of his signing has been delayed?
Think he could be a decent signing for the right money but when you been on the rumoured contract at Cas, sometimes it's hard to come down to what other people now value you at.

Although the signing to be announced tomorrow is most likely to be Owen I think it would be a bad move . I would prefer Keinhorst with Reece Lynne reverting to the wing . Sammutt is a real problem , I think his best position is halfback but not along side Tim Smith . I thought Godinett combined well with Smith in the games they played together and Godinett has made it clear 6 is his favoured postion.Fullback gives scope for Sammutt to attack but he looked awfully weak defensively. Justin Carney swotted him off like the rest of us get rid of a fly. Despite Webster saying Sammutt is in his plans a player exchange for a decent interchange hooker would improve the balance of the team but I don't know who might be available

Wilde had his chances and although his work ethic was excellent he didnt have the zip to make quick yards from dummy half and didnt have much of a kicking game . He simply wasnt in the same league as McShane if we are to make the 8 next season we need to find another McShane.

Would imagine the squad news tomorrow is one of three things:

(1) Another Academy player promoted into senior squad
(2) Someone signing a contract extension
(3) Someone leaving- could be sammutt?

Who could pssibly object to a straight swop Sammutt for the return of Aiton . That would be Christmas come early for me.
