Higgins does a decent job he signed for a struggling side to prove himself, the old Wakey if you like.
This has to be NEW WAKEY and we must look to improve not stagnate.

| Quote ="NewtonHillWildcat"Senior was and probably is in the top 5 centres in the game. OK so he is knocking on a bit but I would rather have him playing for us, than against us. He is still a good bet and we could get a few seasons out of him. I think we should look to sign him on with a view to getting into our coaching staff long term'"
If Senior probably is still in the top 5 centres in the game, then sure to god Leeds wouldnt have released him as I doubt Callum Watkins is in the top 4.
Hes had it, if we sign him and I hope its a big if, he will want a good pay day and I doubt he will play half of our games next season with the injury problems thats going on.
Agree with one of the other replys further up, offer Walshaw a similar deal to what Senior would expect and then look to the future.

I don't understand why you would think like that, spend the money on Walshaw and keep hold of Murphy and George, or as you say take a punt on Senior.

I totally agree.
I guarantee however that if Mr Kear remains in charge, this is exactly the type of signing we'll be making; he lives in the past and trades on past glories, hence the media stitch-up job that him and Senior are doing on us as we speak.

Position of strength?
Take a look at the League table sunshine. You're down there in the twilight zone propping up the rest of us. And as for not wanting to sign for you..... ..... nobody in their right mind was signing for you then, and the only players who would be looking for a deal now are the ex Celtic players who were dumped on from a great height on Tuesday. Even then, I suspect their agents will be phoning Widnes first!
I would hope that Keef doesn't sign for you. The guy is a SL legend and has been the best centre of the modern era by a country mile. Fair play to him for looking to extend his playing career, but I would have liked him to have got some sort of coaching/mentoring deal, and finished his illustrious career at Leeds.
Time and injury may have ruled him out of a top 8 club, but he's still several levels higher than whats currently on show in amongst the C grade cannon fodder!

| In the era of salary cap I think it is hard to comment on siginings. Do we really know its a case of KS or the young outside back we have at the club? I don't. Do we know what proportion of the cap KS is being offered - I certainly dont. If he is being approached and offered a small proportion of the cap, or a pay as you play deal then I'd snap him up. If it is a case of KS or retaining the young up and coming outside back that we have then I would have to think a little harder.
Salary cap aside how does this proposed signing differ from that of Morrison a couple of seasons ago? Not too many disappointed with that signing. Kear has a good track record of signings, particularly if you cast this, extra ordinary, season apart.

Take cover... here comes the 7th placed big spending Leeds Rhino fans to offer us some educated advice.
Take a look at the league table sunshine and when your back competing with the likes of Wigan and Warrington and not sitting in mid table doing very little but looking to see who will knock you out in the 1st round of the playoffs, I'll listen to you.

I asked my 12 year old son to describe what just happened to WillyRhino in modern parlance - his reply: "he got pwnd."
I have no idea what it means.

| Kear said: "He has a wealth of experience and that is one of things we have missed."
Well go have a word with Garry Schofield or Ellery Hanley then too, they have loads of experience too.
"We are in Super League XVI now and Keith has played in 16 of those years," said Kear.
Well done John, that means hes getting old. His legs will be old, his body will be old.
"Keith fits the bill. He has won Super League titles, the Challenge Cup and played for Great Britain on numerous occasions"... Kear Said
Well make sure you let him know that he has no chance of winning anymore of them down here with you still in charge.
"I have followed his career with interest because I worked with him in its infancy." Said Kear
Good for you, Mr Birkinshaw at Southdale Junior School always saw me as a youngster going places in the chess world when I was Wakefield schools champion. But he didnt follow my career like a hawk, he let me do my own thing. Thats what you should do with Keith now.
"It is great to see how he has developed into an accomplished, high-quality rugby league player."
Correct, and he should be proud of his achievements. But he is no longer a high quality rugby league player otherwise the middle quality middle placed middle of the road Leeds Rhinos wouldnt be getting rid, would they ?
"We have got a good base here but might have an overload of young players still learning their trade.
"It would be nice to get some quality, marquee players in amongst that." Kear Said
So why sign overweight Australians then you doughnut. P.S. Im all for some quality marquee players at Wakefield, but not 35 year old has beens looking for a nice payday for their final two years of their career to top up the pension.

| I wonder whether signing players past their best was included in our franchise application.
The coaching situation needs resolving soon as. If we sign Keef, I will take that as a sign we are maintaining Kear and Co which will be a monumental error IMO.
Senior will be on a big wedge, we could use the cash much better as we already have players who are decent in the centres.

| Agree with the majority on this one. Senior says he turned down an offer from Leeds......
Not the signing i'd like us to make. Guess he will be on a fair wage as well that could be better used else where.
Snowie sums it up perfectly for me, earlier in the thread.

| Upgrade the contracts of Walshaw, George and Murphy with the money rather than sign Senior. We need to be sending a positive message to these young players that they have a future at the cllub.
There is no doubt that Senior has been a top qualiry player but what kind of message does that give to somebody like young Walshaw. " Sorry Lucas, but you've got to wait another couple of years until Keith has retired". He'd be off down the galpharm as quick as a shot and who would blame him?
We might not be shopping at Harrods just yet, but we can stop shopping at Farm Foods and aim for Lewis's or Debenhams.
