| Hello there
I'm new to posting on this forum, and just wanted to say how angry I was watching Look North tonight. It was so blatantly one sided against Wakefield Trinity it was untrue.
My complaint has gone into the BBC as well - wont hold my breath for any reply from though!

Agreed. I would have expected something along the lines of "the residents concerns have been addressed in our proposals" and then an explanation of how. The comment made, makes it look like the residents concerns have some credence and they are only now being considered. Adds more fuel to the fire for the opposition imo

welcome on board
for all this is how the time went
17-30 Gration started the presentation of the clip
and continued to talk all about a couple concerns and a ecological guy picking fish bones (eligibly as he found them easy enough ) that some otter had crapped them out
19-25 pics of the development and Phil managed to have a bit of a say
19-42 end of and gos back to the couple again for a last you can't buy views like this
19-58 end of the clip
so 2 minutes 28 seconds of which Phil got coverage =#FF000017 secondsand that included stadium plans

Not had the opportunity to watch the TV piece, but a few comments about the website article:
[urlhttp://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/west_yorkshire/8705372.stm[/url
"Leeds City Council said although it had no concerns over the new 12,000-seater stadium itself, it objected to its development in Newmarket Lane, Stanley, saying it would have a detrimental effect on the city's green belt.
A report by the council said: "The proposed development represents a very significant intrusion into the green belt between Leeds and Wakefield."
How can it affect Leeds' greenbelt when there's a six lane motorway between them?
"Gordon Webster, who has lived near the proposed site with his wife for 25 years, said the development would "totally change" the couple's way of life.
"We moved here because we were in a rural position and the area is beautiful. It's been regenerating itself over the years and this is taking it back into an industrial area," he said. "
This best illustrates the frustration of the NIMBYs which I can sympathise with to a point, but their implication that they lived in a rural paradise for 25 years seems a little biased.
A look at the time scale would be helpful. The pit was closed in 1983, just 2 years before they bought their house. The reclamation of the land was [ustarted[/u in 1998.
[urlhttp://www.lrdlimited.co.uk/case_studies/newmarket_silkstone_colliery.html[/url (Think this is Sandal Cat's bunch )
So they lived on a pit site for more than half of the time. Plus the time taken to clean up the site.
"Colin Mackie, managing director of Yorkcourt properties, the developers behind the scheme, said residents' concerns were being looked at. "
OK, maybe they have been a little 'under-quoted', but it could be a good thing as when 'suddenly' all the objections, (other than the invalid NIMBY and nominal greenbelt), have been thoroughly considered and dealt with it will look impressive. Could be a canny move by Yorkcourt?

| I think that the proponents of the scheme and particularly those involved in the design and construction processes will be well versed in these processes and their nuances.

Not my bunch. LRD are a private company who reclaimed the site for Oulton Estates who owned the site I believe before Yorkcourt.
Not seen any of this but the cynic in me says it the usual Leeds bias against Wakefield. If the proposal is approved may it prevent Leeds developing their side of the Motorway junction. If its rejected I would not be surprised if Leeds look at some stage in the future to develop their side of the junction. Seems like Leeds looking after Leed's interest but I could be wrong.

Agreed.
I have suggested this possibility elsewhere.
Maybe it's worth putting the point to the Leeds councilors and asking if they can guarantee no development on their side of the motorway in the next 10-20 years.

A quick question for you. On the VT under the topic of pick your teams for SL 2012 there are posts from CAS Fans stating that they have heard that we will be sharing with them at Glashoughton as WMDC are nailing their colours to the mast and saying they will only support one stadium in the area.
They also state that a meeting to thrash this out is supposed to be taking place shortly if it hasn't already occurred.
I appreciate that there are a number of reasons why this doesn't sound right, ie ours will be run by the Community Trust, but along with Leeds Councils objection it is worrying and I just wondered whether you are able to give any comfort that the above is without foundation?
Thanks'"
I know nothing of above but have long held the view that the only SL license available to Cas and/or Wakey will be for a merged club (unless miraculously one of us has the builders in my next spring) If that deal was done and stadia criteria applied, the path of least resistence would currently take us all to Glasshoughton. That would be a shame for Trinity who have done really well to get the Newmarket project so far only to be stymied by the nimby lobby.

| Now's the time to back your club,letters/e-mails to Leeds city council,Look North supporting this positive project.
Also positive mail to Yorkcourt, the Wakefield express and the club couldn't possibly go amiss.
Get them sent,it doesn't take a lot of your time!

I said the same a few days ago, I doubt that this has anything to do with the issues stated by the councillors and probably has more to do with LCC having their own eyes on a development on that junction.
If the objections were to succesfully derail the Newmarket site, I think that Leeds City Council would have no shame at all in offering land to the distribution companies.

Still seething, I wouldn’t mind so much if I didn’t have to pay, by law I might add, for the privilege of watching a completely biased report.
