No he didn't, he threatened to sue Yorks CCC if they moved there, fwiw they already had a first class ground at Headingley and did not need to move to Durkar, they only agreed to attend the meeting to see what was on offer.
If you want the real culprit look no farther than uncle Ted.

So he kyboshed it by threatening to sue YCCC!
As I remember it they were all for moving to Durkar, just trying to remember the facts here but didn't the members vote in favour of the Durkar development?

| Of course he could also have lost the test matches! How many times have you seen Headingley even near full except maybe a Test match and an occasion limited overs game? Yorkshire were not too keen on his latest rent proposals either!

Well it would be had he ever said that, WMDC never promised that stadium you refer too that was the then owner of BV, WMDC never promised any funding I’m afraid. So MC may have said that’s what he wanted but he never said WMDC were supplying it or certainly I don’t remember Box saying they would.

| MC is on record recently as saying the pitch is not moving or being made 4G.
He did suggest it will become hybrid i.e. it has all weather elements woven in to toughen it up, as it will need to be used for more than just the RL.

No it wasn’t, WMDC have never at any point over the last 20 years ever offered to pay for the new stadium. There was a two million pound land guarantee kicking around at one point but that was a security not funding.
WMDC have never been willing to fund NM or BV as a complete redevelopment had they done so we’d have it by now. They wouldn’t even help us buy the ground back!
That said you keep saying pitch, do you mean pitch or stadium?
Also it would be very difficult from legal perspective for the council to fund a private development on private land owned by a private company. Not impossible but Box has never been interested as far a I know.

To be fair the Council threw a hissy fit about 2 years back when Trinity wouldn't agree to their rent projections and stated they were going to be a stadium regardless of whether Trinity were to play there or not. Complete BS of course but it is on record.

True but they never said they would fund it with taxpayers money as far as I recall, that’s my point.
God only knows who they reckoned was going to pay but it wasn’t them.

Perhaps it’s this report you remember
Wakefield council to propose ‘solutions’ to community trust over stadium row
April 10, 2017 Aaron Bower
It has been another potentially pivotal week for the future of Wakefield Trinity in their bid to play in a new community stadium in the city.
The council issued a lengthy statement last week in regards to their position on the lengthy battle for a new community stadium for the people of Wakefield – which was responded to in detail by the Wakefield & District Community Trust.
It is the trust which will be the owners of the stadium, not Trinity – they will be the anchor tenants should any stadium be built.
And TotalRL has learned that following a public tete-a-tete between the two parties, the council are preparing to present a number of potential solutions to the long-standing battle within the next fortnight.
As part of its response to the council last week, the Trust said: “If a new multi-party agreement is drawn up and signed that recognises that the floorspace of Newcold contribute towards the 60,000m2 trigger and the Council is prepared to reinstate the £2m financial contribution then this whole matter can be resolved amicably.”
The issue has been on the table since 2012, when the Secretary of State permitted an area of green belt land could be developed so long as Yorkcourt Properties, who were handed the development, gave an area of 35 acres to the Community Trust, as well as investing a sum of £9m into a stadium where Trinity would be tenants.
And this is potential cause for optimism for not just Trinity, but the people of Wakefield in their bid to get a new stadium.

| No the one I remember was much earlier than 2017. It was for the first proposed new ground (Waistone) that fell through.
