| I dunno if this has been mentioned - but the tactics RA enforced last night were absolutely abysmal.
Don't forget their half back went off in the first ten minutes and played with just Luke Gale who is bang average.
WHY in the name of god did Sammut start on the bench!? What a debut, having Sykes at 6, then swapping your half back pairing around half time to then move Sykes to centre!?
Pita Godinet tried is hardest, god bless him, but I could've wept for him, having to play with two different partners.
I cannot remember once where him and Sammut linked up. Either play him or don't.
And I sincerely hope McShane improves for you, his distribution from dummy half was painfully slow. Whenever he assed it was tentative and sloppy, whenever he scooted he got five yards then passed - he looked totally indecisive and seemed to have n confidence in his decision making (quite the opposite of last week)
Collis isn't fit - dunno who watched on sky but he was out on his ass after 25 minutes
Well played to Ali though - he did everything he could to make some spark, was a pleasure to watch when he got the ball.

| I thought that Lynn had a good game bar the one drop which lets face it he wasn't the only one to drop the ball. I thought he ran it in well and his defence was good, I just think that he needs the confidence to back himself more.
I thought that Anderson and Smith had good games at prop and Fox also had a good game taking his try well and defending well.
Our defence was good througout, they didn't really break our line and there trys came from our individual errors.
If we can keep the defence like it has been in the past 2 games for the rest of the season we will be ok.
Our attack looked like what it was, a group of players who had hardly played together before, but in time and with plenty of work on the training pitch we have the talent in the side to cause teams problems.

I agree; and given that you're a Cas fan, I would have thought you'd be immune to embarrassment by now?
I'm comfortable with my view that we've been reffed out of the first 20 mins of both games we've played so far this season; from the first 10 minutes alone last night, Washbrook penalised for a not high high tackle, Smith penalised for a perfectly legal ball steal and Purtell awarded a try that was never grounded.

How long though, my fellow altoftian?? How many winnable games will have passed before they start causing problems? And how many games will they cause problems before they string wins together?
Don't forget that Bradford team are in the same boat with players in/out.
Everyone knows wakefield can play better than that, but it'll be about winning ugly this year against teams like Bradford/Cas/Widnes etc

Our next game is Wigan away which is tough for any team but after that we have Catalans at home the London away. I would like us to have hit our straps by the time we go to London. We also have a decent record against Catalan at Belle Vue so I think that is also a game we can target.

But that is the problem, given our fixtures we needed a decent start whatever the problems have been regarding getting our players here. It may be a good time to be playing Wigan given they are currently in Sydney but playing like last night I wouldn't back us to beat their academy side. Catalan at home is winnable but they are a good side so only if we play well and have gelled an awful lot more than we have seen so far. And right now that looks a good few weeks off. Just beating London will not be enough, two go down and they will all have a fair start on us by then. Then starts a very tough run of fixtures that will be tough to get much out of. We need at least one win on the board by the London game but right now I just don't see it happening.

your record against Catalans at home (just off my memory) is great! Can't remember a loss to be honest!
A win against Lodnon is a bare minimum - beating Catalans then losng to London would be a waste of 2 points really.
I still reckon you're playing Wigan at the perfect time really so they aren't unbeatable. If you can beat london then maybe win 2/the next 3 your season is still on track - assuming you're targetting 12th like (considering the pre-season, that'd be a success IMO)
I still think it'd be a lovely poo on the doorstep of the RFL if both Cas and Wakey stay up and they've relegated Bradford and London

Pretty much this.
I am normally pretty fair in respect to refs but it felt so much like the officials were against us I was getting frustrated in the first half and I think it showed on the team as well with their lack patience and composure. Off the top of my head there was a ball steal, a try given by the video and a high tackle given against Washbrook that were really harsh on us out of a sea of penalties given by the referee.
I think the way the game has been refereed over here is killing the game as a spectacle over the past few years, its become pedantic to the point of being ridiculous. Too much benefit of doubt is given to attackers for any marginal high shots, play-the ball incidents etc that the games are just decided by marginal penalties.
Actually I thought our opening defensive stint was very encouraging in the face of all the Bull's possession, eventually I think this took its toll later in the game.
I think we also need to bear in mind that we must have been held up over the line or close at least 3 times, any of which could easily have changed the game and maybe then we would have been walking out with a different attitude as to how the game went. It just wasn't our night.

The 2009 play off game is one defeat to them that sticks in my craw. But there has been a couple of other defeats as well although our overall record at home against them is good. But we need to be an awful lot better to beat them.

| Bradford always seem to win us, our bogey team.
2nd game is season it was a must win for them (point deduction) but we've made it a whole lot harder. Looks like we may have to beat a couple of 'top' teams now...

He never got the ball grounded passed the try line due to Kirmond getting underneath him which means he did not score a try.

On Salford's performance 4 days previous Wakefield Trinity Wildcats are a top 8 side.
It's a long season and if Cas get a string of injuries they'll down there in the bottom 3 in the mix aswell!

Fairer comment, on last night's performance I'd agree - but I doubt they will play like that for the next 25 matches.
Whilst we aren't 100% sure of safety, comments like your first one tend to blow up in the face of the purpetraitor - let's make sure our team have significant breathing room before we can watch the relegation battle with a cigar and a glass of port in front of a log fire with the dog asleep by the side of it

| Last night was as dis-jointed a performance as I can remember in a while. There are obvious reasons for that but my worry is we looked so far off it is going to take quite a while to 'gel'.

| Last night was a huge anti-climax for me following our second half performance against Salford, as I am sure it was for all Trinity fans. With a four day turn around with players that look unfit due to poor preseason preparations, this was the performance to expect after a extremely physical first game. I honestly thought Scott Anderson made a good account of himself, putting in great shifts and already showing better signs than Justin THE LIABILITY Poore did last year. The ref was atrocious for both sides yesterday, as I could not even understand what our first penalty against Luke Gale was for. I am not even going to start with some of the decisions against us. I am not Agars biggest fan, but this team just needs a bit more time for players to not only get up to fitness as Matt Ryan looks likes he is smuggling a wok, but the new half back partnership needs time to coagulate, which does look very promising.
