Will have been much before then. They did their farewell tour in December 1982, with their last ever gig early in 1983, and The Style Council were onto their third single by August 83 (puts anorak on and finds it fits lovely).

Last month I went to see the reformed Mott The Hoople play 7 excellent gigs (2 warm ups in Monmouth, 5 proper gigs in Hammersmith), their first for over 35 years - last week I met Brian May of Queen in Bradford.

Yes - except that Buffin only played one of the encores each night due to illness - Martin Chambers (The Pretenders) stood in for the rest.

| Anyone remember the Elvis Costello gig at Tiffany's in 1980...
would have been my first ...
with the small (and embarassing) exception of Freddy and the Dreamers at Skegness in 1974... (with my mum and dad!!!)
also did the Police, U2, Elton John (in Hong Kong)... then the memory fogs....

| The Eagles at the M.E.N. arena. Unreal.
They started off with the stage blacked out, one chord and went into the song Seven Bridges Road (a cappella) as the lights gradually came on.
They were swapping instruments throughout the concert, and as Glenn Frey stated "We can all sing, and we can all play"
How many bands can say that?
If you ever get a chance go and watch them, it's not a show it's an experience.

Billy Joel played the whole lot too, although not at the same time....he was good, but not that good.

| Saw Slade at the Unity Hall sometime in the early 80's, Vardis and Roadster in support. Not the greatest gig ever but some of my mates played in the support bands so that made it very special.
Pink Floyd at Knebworth was easily the most ewesome experience. Status Quo at Donington in 1982 was good, supported by the 100,000 strong Quo Army.

But.... saw AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and Whitesnake there. Whitesnake had Cozy Powell on drums and his solo was breathtaking!

| A bit late in the day, but these are my favourite gigs.
Stone Roses – Spike Island 1990 – Just an amazing occasion, just wished Ian Brown could sing.
Radiohead – Glastonbury 1997 – First ever festival camping, and an amazing performance.
The Specials – Bridlington 2009 – Band that got me into music, great to see them reformed. Even better watching bald, middle aged men trying to dance.
Arctic Monkeys – Escobar 2005 - probable one of 10,000 people who claim they were there
U2 – Elland Road 1997 – First ever gig

| Great gigs:
Most of those at the Unity Hall late '70's/early '80's (Damned, UK Subs, Skids etc.)
Christmas on Earth @ Leeds Queen's Hall December 1981 (Damned again)
Many of the 50-60 times I've seen Buzzcocks.
Sex Pistols Finsbury Park 1996.

Mott - awesome, also saw this gig at Leeds and year later at Sheffield. Had tickets to see them again in Leeds with Ronson 2 days after they split. Was gutted.
Rory Gallagher was quite simply the best guitarist ever bar none !!
Uriah Heep at Bradford were cool too.
