| I know it's a forum but it matters not a jot what we think.
BS will pick the best option and it looks like Miller/ Godinet for a while.
Cant see any point in changing. Miller had his best game and he has had some shockers, so has T.Smith and Godinet had taken forever to even get a run in the side.
The problem is, none of them are English and while our main objective is Super League survival, there has to be an eye on the future.
Vasty is right in saying there has to be a 7 in the BARLA leagues.
I sat with my pals from Hull last night and when coach at FC, BS had an open day and produced players who eventually went on to play for GB and even manage GB (Macnamara from Skirlaugh). Perhaps next is the scouting set up.
After all that waffle, Miller/ Godinet for me, pace every time.

Are you referring to yourself waffling as you put it, or me?! If it maters not a jot what anyone thinks, why have a forum then?! What's the point of being on here? If you can post a more interesting topic, then go ahead........as for BS picking the best option, that would be Smith and Godinet as that was who he selected last night, until Smith pulled out? Now possibly, just possibly, if Smith had played last night we may not have won, but that's all hypothetical and probably meaningless waffle anyway. Can you name these no 7's in the BARLA leagues then? Of course there are always gems to be found in the lower leagues and amateur game, but until they actually play in Super League, we will never know if they are as good as guys like Miller, because he actually has played at this level hasn't he. There must be a reason why certain players are overlooked, or not spotted in the first place, and yes it would make a lot more sense than getting a guy from overseas, not to mention the future hopefully playing for England/GB etc, but like I've said, there must be valid reasons why these players aren't plucked from our shores. It's an argument that has gone on for years, about bringing over low quality overseas players, and I agree to a certain extent, but sometimes you get gems from there too, people like Demetriou, Brad Davis, although he only really played at the top level for Cas, they wouldn't have got anywhere near an NRL side back home. Enough waffling I just thought it was interesting to see how many would choose Miller now, because over the last few weeks, I think he's gone up in a lot of people's estimation, including mine.

As I don't have 20000 posts to my name, when I do post, the next post normally just overlooks it so I must be a boring old git.
I tired to get a bite and succceded!
Wakey have always had a weakness in the scouting area. I have over 30 years in amateur RL and have witnessed the highs and lows of their interest.
There used to be a scout and everyone in the amateur game knew the club that was preferred in Wakefield, the rest didn't get much of a look in.
Thanks for answering! Not everyone has the same opinion and I respect others even if not agreeing.
I was aware Miller was second fiddle to Smith but glad, like most, that he got a chance to shine for one.
We have a strong amateur area and long term, should be able to produce "local players for local people".

| If Tim Smith would have played last night I reckon he would have had a decent 2nd half. Because for the 1st time in months we had a pack that was breaking the first tackle & putting their defence on the back foot, especially when Ellis went off. This would have been a good platform for Smith to move the ball wherever he wanted. However Miller had his best game for us in a Wakey shirt & was my motm.

Basic little things, without over complicating things.

| I think if TS had been playing, we would have won by more. We still looked lacking at times in the opposition 20.
TS over JM every day of the week for me.

| Disagree about plenty of players with pace in the amateur game .
You can appear quick, but that is in relation to the speed of those around you.
Natural speed is a gift(which can obviously be enhanced by coaching) and I have seen many good looking players from lower down the RL levels found wanting .
You can look quick in the amateur game but then not as quick in the pro environment where more are matching you for speed and are often quicker.

| Millers best game certainly puts pressure on Mr Smith. Smith certainly needs to take the line on more don't no why he doesn't he is spindley and can jink he cannot be that slow like treacle.

| I agree Smith needs to take the line on more, but to the people who say he never does it clearly you didnt watch the Catalans game, Godinet and Smith were our best two players then.
Id still pick Smith over Miller and so would BS it would appear. Miller had a good game against Hull, but half the time and much of this season he ran around like a headless chicken.

Well you're wrong or you've missed the point.
There are loads of players with natural speed right down the divisions - my mates lad is one, he's as quick as most SL wingers and has recorded stats to prove it. This has no relation to the players around him, many of whom are equally as fast. By his own admission he is lacking in game skill, desire and that general Xfactor. It's a very fine line between a genuine pro.
Anyway back to the main point, for me Miller is not at the level I would expect for a precious import quota player. I contest that he's Championship level in every respect other than a natural ability to step of both feet. Reminds me a lot of Kyle Wood, we may as well have persisted with him as at least he was an academy product.
SL is rapidly becoming a second chance refuge for NRL players and to me that counterproductive and unfair. I'd much rather 3 top class Aussies/Kiwis (Locke) than a dozen journeymen (Ryan). Not saying they are bad player just not sure they are better than their UK counterparts.

Sorry, misunderstood, I wouldn't call that waffling, trust me I could probably write 3 pages of waffle on here You will certainly have far more interest and knowledge of the amateur game than me, so therefore will know a lot more about it and it's links with professional clubs. I've probably only been to a handful of amateur games since I started watching RL, but I do remember one cold day when a certain Jason Robinson was playing for Hunslet Parkside. Obviously I didn't know who he was back then, but the guy next to me said he's gonna be superstar of the game in few years, how right he was! It just seems a no brainer to me that you would pick a player from down the road, rather than fly someone 12,000 miles, have to find a house for them, possibly with family and all the rest, if they were of similar ability?! Like I said, you will know more than me, so are the players potentially out there or have standards dropped that badly over the last 15, 20 years?

| There is a strong amateur game in the area, that includes around Cas and Fev. As Vasty says, the speed is there but most of the time it's the mental toughness that is needed to go the extra yard in skill and desire. BS is an expert at spotting this and I hope he get the chance to find 2 or 3 gems. Financially it's a no brainer and believe me, the times I have tried with Trinity are numerous. We even linked with Sheffield Eagles for a season as a result of neglect and they placed Keith Senior and Wayne Flynn at the club for a year. The effect on the kids was amazing as was Keith's vocabulary!
Nothing against Miller, Ryan and co, but surely 3 or 4 would be enough and a massive saving towards salary cap.

| Quote ="vastman"For me there is no question it’s Smith and I’m not a big fan.
Miller is a HB who can’t pass well enough often enough. His decision making is often poor and his kicking game limited.
He is fast and he can step well but I could find you a dozen of those in the BARLA leagues.
This wouldn’t be so bad if he were British but this is a player who’s been shipped to these shores and is no better than the lad we had from Leeds Academy/Dewsbury a few years back - plays in the Championship now.
Millers best quality is that he is a trier but then so am I and you wouldn’t want me at 7!
Smith is a fair weather player and needs the team to perform before he can. He’s not a self confident match winner like Brough and does not pocess the leadership qualities of an Andy Gregory and he’s cart ho slow. However his passing game is still sublime when the team is functioning and his decision making well above the rest when we are on top. He needs a foil and Locke may hopefully be it. If he can build up an understanding with Smith like Sykes had then watch us go.'"
Think thats a pretty fair assessment. The problem for Smith as well is the fact that he is reliant on players actually making decent runs and angles so he can utilise his main strength - passing. To be fair he's had knack all on that front for large parts of the season, not to mention our pack at times has been getting dominated so he's been on the back foot and as you say given he is slow he's never gonna take advantage of any gaps in a rushing defence.

| It all depends what Brian Smith wants and needs.
If he can get into T Smiths head then who knows.
He's worked with Miller before.
Really down to who wants to listen and respond.

| Has to be Tim Smith. If we can get into an attacking position then he'll create chance for others to score all day. His passing is the best in the league, but he won't go 80 metres to score and I doubt he'll be interested in taking the line on when we're 40 points down. I think Miller played well, as did Godinet, but I think their energy would be put to better use with Smith at 7 Orchestrating things.

The challenge will be keeping Millers improvement while Smith is back in the team.

My 50 years of experience tells me you need to grow up a bit more.
Two half decent performances against his old team which had played twice as many games as us hardly qualifies him as a great player does it!
So if you'll excuse me I'll stick with my opinion and I'll tell you if that changes at the end of the season where it counts.

Might have the luck we have been searching for all season.
We could leave Jowitt at 1 and move Locke to 6 (I reckon he'd do that easy)
Or if Hall still wants to play for us he could move to 6.
Either way we have a few options.
