Smith had his best game of the season according to those who were there and the commentators, maybe Sammut is the right partner for him.

Sammut was very good today. Rather than playing his usual dynamic maverick role he played to the game plan and let smith control the game. He also tackled his heart out like the rest of the side. Great effort from every one of them today, we must have held them up over the line four or five times.

Good as the attack was, for 40 points, the defence and overall team effort won the day.

The change in attitude from the whole team (last week aside) is astounding since Agar was sacked. I keep saying it but 3 months ago, every set warrington had from 10 metres out they would have scored 90% of the time. Today we held them out on more than 1 occasion where they had 3+ sets on our line. This is a difference in attitude, not much else.

You are right but Tim Smith is 50% of it too.
It's amazing what a bit of leadership and direction can do.

Looks like we should be going with Sammut at 6 and Smith at 7 next week based on that performance.

Two players who if they can strike up a partnership like today will be great for a Trinity for the next 5 games and for next season behind a strong pack
(just forgot we haven't got either for next season have we?..our hat trick winger is also on loan....

Add keinhorst to that as another loanee and a number ooc at the end of the season.
Still encouraging signs have been shown over the last seven game but still much to be done.

Read again. Or the Half's! I didn't see the day Sykes would be dropped but he was. Obviously would prefer Sammut at half back and not fullback thought Sykes was indispensable.

He was particularly poor last week so maybe dropped. Could be his last season?

Webster always said that he went with Sykes and Smith in the halves as it was the tried and tested combination. He did caveat that by adding that if any of them weren't up to scratch they would make way and Sammut would come in. Which is what happened. Sykes was atrocious last week, and water boy this. Well played Mr Webster.

I like a coach who drops players who he believes aren't performing. Sammut has the shirt now and to hang on to it knows he has to perform week in week out. Same goes for others too and that's how it should be, a ready made replacement to slot into positions they're familiar with not square pegs in round holes. Play well, you're in next week guys. Keep it up Trinity am loving this!

Sykes has got another year in him IMHO..... one game doesn't make or break a player. He's played a part in the wins we've had this season especially Widnes away!

He did have a poor game but most Half backs won't look good when the pack was mullered like it was against Catalan. Competition for places is good and he'll hopefully come back stronger.

According to Dave nosey Parker Sykes has not been offered a new contact for next season!

Sykes is our highest on missed tackles list.

But that usually means he's making a lot. That will be missed at half back.

I personally don't rate Sykes that highly and a bit like Richie Moore, I am indifferent as to whether he stays another year or not.

Can hit hard in defence but makes poor decisions near our own line in defence and is only a makeshift half for me.

Smith and Sammut could be a good combo going forward. With Smith controlling the game at 1st receiver with those good short passes and kicking game, and Sammut at second receiver running riot a bit wider. No shortage of flair and excitement with those two. I hope they gel together.

I'm deffo more pro-Moore.

Sykes is really past it. The Watkins try for Leeds was typical of Sykes's failings against the speedier backs.
Many times they run through/past him 75 metres out for the initial break that ultimately creates a try.
