=#FF0000M62 overnight, weekend closures J25-30


The Highways Agency will be installing 36 new gantries and refurbishing 16 existing gantries on the M62 motorway in West Yorkshire between junction 25 and junction 30 from March to November 2012. In order to carry out this work safely sections of the M62 will be closed, there will be 20 closures.

You can get off at 25 Brighouse and the matrix signs are saying its just closed between 25 and 26 this weekend.

Working in Oldham and driving from Wakefield everyday its normally faster to drive through Dewsbury and Ravensthorpe though i am usually driving at rush hour, it is more or less a straight road from Dewsbury on Huddersfield road/ A644 and then on at Junction 25 hope this helps.

do it every working day and it is faster but watch out for 6 yes 6 speed camera's

Haha yeah but id take 6 speed cameras over the god knows how many average speed cameras on the M62 at the moment!!!!

Don't talk to me about speed cameras on the M62!!! My Dad once got slippered for going 0.1 mph above the 50mph limit in my car! The rozzers were determined to do me for that even though i wasn't even driving the bloody car!!!! Justice when those cameras are concerned is merciless. Those camrras are only there to "protect" the "workforce" that invariably aren't on the carridgeway in the first place, GRRRRR!!!!!

Haha no but the speed limit signs dont make me sit there watching the speedo to make sure i dont go over 50 instead of watching the road for the people working on the motorway (that arnt actually working on the motorway at all!!!! )

Those cameras are to protect all the road users in narrow lanes, but if its easier to blame everyone else please do so.

I'm far from an apologist for speeding, but the length of time that 50 zone has been in place is ridiculous - crossing the M62 during daylight hours is like one of the trials of Hercules and has been for ages.

Maybe the cameras aren't actually working

I can disabuse you of that notion - I got pinged on the way back from the Widnes game doing 57; it was after midnight and there wasn't another car or a workman in sight.

All I can say is I must of driven through the roadworks/average speed cameras on the M62 at least 100 times this year both in car on bike and also van and as yet no ticket

The way truck drivers drive so aggressively is a disgrace. What amazes me is that they get a warning maybe a mile or two prior to the speed restrictions come into play and they don't start to slow down. They then complain as they are up your

that they have too much momentum to slow down in time.

Take the licenses off the idiots who can't abide by the rules of the road.

The limit is the limit and if clearly shown on the road then nobody has any EXCUSE for breaking it. The people setting the limit have assessed the conditions of the road and there is no way some random driving on the road can determine what they think is a safe speed to drive.

I've been driving for many years, never had a speeding or parking ticket. I've only ever been in one accident and that is when I was stationery at a roadabout and I was hit from behind by a police woman!!!

It is a privilege and not a right to drive on the road. Drive to the rules of the road, without tailgating, cutting people up or aggressively. Let's all get on. Many of us have to drive, let's make it unstressful.

There's a hell of a lot of poor drivers on the roads, and on motorways the majority are not lorry drivers!!

On the parts where there are no restrictions in place and the traffic if flowing freely.... any car doing 50-55mph should be stopped and banned from driving on the motorway. If and when you ever get in a lorry and drive on motorway's you will know exactly where I am coming from....

As for the 50 speed limit, I'm sorry but I don't believe anyone anywhere would get clocked and a ticket for doing 53/54 never mind 51......it's always been my thought that you will 99% of the time get away with doing 10% over the limit....

And as for driving 45-48 to avoid getting a ticket......if you can't maintain a speed of 50mph on a motorway I'd question your ability as a driver!....nearly as bad as those who will happily drive along a road at 30 for a couple of miles and then as soon as they come to a speed camera drop to 27....why oh why oh why!!

I just keep out of their way and drive at 55mph whenever I have to go down that ridiculous motorway. Mind you I bet it's done a good job of keeping economic migrants over on the wrong side of the hills.

Agree with most of the above, in that 99% of lorry drivers are undoubtedly the best drivers on the roads, however there are exceptions (the last one I had dealings with was as drunk as a skunk, and was virtually bouncing off the crash barriers on the M62 with next-to no windscreen in.....he is currently serving a 9 week stretch in Armley, and is then banned for the next 3 years !!!!)
With regards to your comment on doing 53/54 mph in a 50, you are correct, as all NORMAL speedometers generally read approximately 10% under the ACTUAL vehicle speed. If you have a SATNAV you will find that the SATNAV's indicated speed is usually about 10% higher than your speedometer's indicated speed, and it is your SATNAV that is correct !!!! So if you are going at 50 mph on your speedo through the roadworks, then in reality you will be travelling at around 46/47 mph, getting overtaken by all the lorries.
Calibrated tachographs in lorries are more accurate than speedos in cars, so whilst lorries are all electronically limited to 56 mph, when they overtake you in the roadworks at 56 mph, and you look at your speedo, you could easily believe they are doing in excess of this !!!
Whilst the normal recommended guidelines for a speeding prosecution are 10% +2mph (ie 50+5+2, 60+6+2, 70+7+2), I BELIEVE that on some camera-monitored roadworks sections on motorways, they do set the limits lower.....I will leave it up to you to decide whether you consider this to be a safety issue to protect the roadworkers, or alternatively view it as a money-making exercise by the Government !!!!
