| Quote ="Dunkirk Spirit"I’ve just been watching this weeks episode of fourty 20. If MC has seen last night, or received information of what has been said, then I’m not surprised he closed his twitter. I’ve always thought that Phil Caplin, was an ok journalist, but not after listening to his comments today, will I never purchase his magazine again. He wants to pander to the twitter fanatics, one minute he saying the game needs to debate how as a sport we deal with taking the knee, and dealing with some players views re religion etc, then he comes out with the statement along the lines of “as a sport, all players must take the knee, otherwise, they can’t play. He thinks the game’s sponsors, Sky, Might be upset, and we have to respect the BLM movement and take the knee. What the Hell, other Coaches within our game say they respect their players decision on wether to take knee or not. How can our game’s governing body instruct players on what political stance they should take. The twitter brigade have got the likes of Caplin, running scared, and allowing themselves to be bullied. God, if I ever see him at BV again, he’ll get a right telling off. I hope MC, the club stick to their guns, I don’t want to be part of a sport that runs scared of twitter bullying.
This conversation starts about 53 minutes into the program'"
Listen Dunkirk get in touch with him and let him know how you feel. I will. He’s a 3rd rate hack pandering to social media by trying to look right on. Because these trolls spend their lives on twitter they seem much more than what they are. Thus the more feeble minded assume that’s where it’s at.
If he starts to hear a lot of noise coming the other way I guarantee he will change tack. If he does you will see him for the fraud he is and if he doesn’t then fair doos as I suppose he obviously believes in what he says though I don’t really believe he will do the latter.
Until we are as loud as they are they will keep being heard far to much.

| So we're going to hound Phil Caplin now whilst at the same time criticsing others for doing the same to Michael Carter? Just because we don't agree with his opinion?

EXACTLY!
it's no good criticising someone and then doing the same back to them.
It may make you feel better but it doesn't solve anything. It just justifies what went on in the first place.

| You have to kneel to prove you support racial equality.
If you don't kneel you are racists, the inference is pretty clear.
Clearly a ridiculous position to adopt, a zero sum argument from people that should know better.
I think he knows, but he's a slave to perception and just has to tow the line.

It’s called right of reply. He gives his views, I give mine, he denounces my club, I call him out, he reaches a bigger audience than I, he has more influence than me, but that doesn’t mean he’s right in what he saying.
Why is it right that the ones with the loudest voices Think they know best. Do you agree with him saying, take the knee, or you don’t play. Is that the dictatorial world you want to live in? I’m not sure if that would even be legal to tell someone to take the knee or else.

| We now have the ridiculous situation of those espousing equality, freedom of speech etc denying people the very same if those people dare to doubt the wisdom of a certain tactic in favour of an alternative approach.

| The bottom line this was an unnecessary controversy with the obvious outcome that the club would be applauded by those who don’t like the BLM movement for whatever reason and castigated by those who do. We should have seen this coming but the fact MC left Twitter due to the criticism would indicate that the club failed to understand that the majority of the public would only see or read about a team standing whilst their opponents knelt. I doubt whatever your view not many will have read the club statement and based their view of the club on the above.

I've just watched Phil Caplan. Didn't like his comments at all about our stance on standing as a group before our game. I normally don't mind his views, but certainly not on this occasion.

I don't agree with that comment. The players made their statement in front of tv cameras attracting far more than would have been in the ground.

| I’m amazed how people keep rattling on about this subject, I’ve far more things to worry about than BLM stuff and who has or hasn’t got down on the knee. Let them march up and down or whatever they do and let others do what they want like enjoy a game of rugby perhaps. I’m actually sick to the back teeth of it to be quite honest.

| Journalists have a standard to maintain and they should be fairly challenged when appropriate.
Caplan is entitled to his view - but he needs to be clear - when is he reporting news and when is he giving editorials, or column pieces.
He's there to be praised or called out, depending on your stance. He's certainly not immune.
Unfortunately, as with most things, news now has to be binary.

Well done Scarlet, don't miss an opportunity to slag off MC or the club (you pretend to support).
So basically,in your opinion,we should have taken the knee "for a quiet life"
Maybe we did see the mini controversy coming and thats why statement was issued prior to match.
The sensible thing to do was issue the statement prior to the match and would indicate a reaction was expected.
Seems the majority on here are supportive of not acting like sheep and actually have some principles.

| If we stood in support of racism why would kneeling be any different. I hope that the club’s stance does not attract the wrong type of supporters who believe for the wrong reason that our stance was against the principle of racism. The problem is however that these type of people will not have read the club statement and base their views on the press coverage for example.
I suppose Saturday will be interesting because will the coverage be for our RL performance our the fact that we stand again, at least we won’t be alone because I expect Falau will for his own reason stand.

Social media has given a voice to an innumerate amount of bellends, all convinced they are the voice of the people and they speak for the majority, because everyone is like them.
I love my social media, but I'm beginning to see why MC binned it off.
Discussion, debate, persuasion, reasoning - consigned to history.

I think the difference is quite obvious, the players stood in support of racial equality, rather than take the knee in support of a movement that has a political agenda.

Agree with that mate and just like I've said before BLM.....
A total waste of time.
It hasn't worked in the past and it won't change a thing in the future.

| I don't know why we are still discussing this. The club have explained why they did what they did.
They supported one of the team who felt they couldn't take a knee because if their religious beliefs.
The team decided to not leave them on their own which would open them up to criticism so stood together.
They still supported anti racism message, just didn't do what other people did.
There is nothing to expect or worry about the reaction. They did what they felt was right for the team. That's it.

I know - if only someone could, like, ya know, lock the thread!
Don't worry, we can repeat ourselves ad nauseum after the next game, when the players display their own free will again, like some free-thinking, self-aware, intelligent, cognoscente beings.
LOCK IT!
