| Sad news about Brough.
We need to go get a replacement. Hampshire is only a temporary fix for me.

| Feel sorry for Brough and hope he is ok.
However, that "performance" was disgraceful and in so many ways was a lot like our opener at London last season.
KR treated it like a cup final and while they were less than good, Trinity were absolutely shocking and without being too disrespectful to KR, who were very good value for the win, we were just garbage.
We looked under prepared, lacking in cohesion and utterly bereft of attacking options and ZERO ball control.
I'm sorry and I know it's round 1 but, that was shocking.
Well done KR, who knew how to beat poor opposition.

| Not sure what purpose the training camp in Spain served after seeing that. Although going by instagram they got some good sight-seeing in and their beach volleyball has come on a treat.

| That was worse than any performance last year and I wish I was joking. Hull KR were poor and they won by 20 points so what exactly does that make our performance?
There's a real mentality issue as a collective. No game management. Last tackle plays are non existent, or on the rare occasion we try to do something, they are executed poorly. That has been for the last 7 months. Some of the tries were embarrassing to concede. Discipline was still poor and it was the most amount of knock ons I have seen from a team in a single game. That squad of players as individuals are far better than that showing but as a unit it looked worrying. I'm not going to pick individuals out as it was the first game of the season. I'm worried.

Feel for Broughy if confirmed, not a good way for him to have to bow out.
Disagree about bringing in a replacement at this point though. Hampshire deserves a chance to stake his claim at halfback first.
Chesters usual answer to the tough times is always to bring in another player. Maybe he should try doing some coaching and improve the players he already has and the systems they use instead. The talent is already in this squad, he needs to find it.

I agree the performance was a shocker. We actually started the brighter of the two teams but once they scored they always seemed to keep us at arms length, despite as you say Hull KR not being that good themselves. They gave us enough chances and we either gave them the ball straight back or we completely toothless with the ball. And the less said about the edge defence the better. Well and truly out-enthused. Well and truly disheartening.

Sums it up perfectly for me... I knew the omens were bad when my car started playing up as soon as we got on the motorway meaning we then had to drive back into Wakefield and then 5 of us got in daughter no 2's 10 year old Vauxhall Corsa and just managed to get to Hull with 10 minutes to spare.
So with the cost of the tickets, another tank of petrol, plus parking...tonight has cost me well over ÂŁ100 only for the guys to put in an abject performance like that.....CAN I HAVE A REFUND PLEASE ?????
And tomorrow I will have the hassle of contacting Ford for them to hopefully fix my car under warranty otherwise I am going to be seriously out of pocket

Don't think anyone has mentioned it yet but I think Josh Wood has previously played scrum-half ??
I thought he went okay tonight and could be worth a shot at 7 ??

Both the Wood’s are options in the halves but that would leave us short at hooker. For me lets see how Rocky & Miller go with Max at fullback.

| I agree with the talk about creativity in the halves has to improve but nobody has mentioned the shocking defending at times from seasoned pros that’s what does my head in and the slow play of the ball is bordering on amateur.

Agree BLM.
Poor defence, poor ball handling and far to many missed tackles.
Well, at least thats the last of the friendlies out of the way....

Handling was worse than I've ever seen. Was awful.
Tackling wasn't really the issue, defensive structure and effort was. They scored their tries mostly untouched. That is someone not being in the right position.

Thought we actually looked ok tackling wise and a couple decent performances in the forwards , what killed us was the endless needless penalties, dropped balls and poor last tackle options.
What I can’t understand is how season before last is we played with such joy and passion - sweeping the ball to the left side, supporting the man with the ball. Last night we had a forward making a 50 yard weaving run and at the end of it we didn’t have a single back within 20 yards of him

| Last tackle options are so bad and have been for an age. We never seem to do the basics i.e. force a repeat set by putting a decent kick in and build pressure. We always insist on either running the ball and then thinking "OH JESUS I EBST PUT A KICK IN BEFOR EI GET TACKLED". Or just punting it in the air and hoping for the best.

Cup final? Both teams had major injury blows and both teams 1st game ?Chuck in lots of debuts and strong winds making handling tricky it was typical fare early season imo. Your team got few head knocks and the Brough injury in game made it harder but we as a team defended much better than previous seasons.Minikin on Johnstone and Quinlan and Brierley made tackles that just wouldn't have been last year.SKD and Linnett look solid so we have the hope of being better than last year albeit early days. I see a few Wakey fans complaining they don't get any credit from oppo fans when losing to you but plenty doing the same with us? I don't think either of our teams will trouble top5 but still think both are comfortably better than Toronto. We will see, good luck for season

Think our overseas signings are decent but obviously a lot of young new lads brought in by Smith so hard to judge at present.Im not reading too much into it other than a welcome 2 point tbh. As for Wakey Fifita is a massive loss if unfit,a real beast of a forward Bad news about Brough but Hampshire to HB and Jowitt FB may be a sharper look? Chester reminds me of James Webster as a coach.Nice guy and good player but just can't see them kicking and screaming in dressing room when it's needed and generally placid.Saying that he's had hands tied by injuries that don't look like easing anytime soon.

Fair comment.
I rate Tony Smith highly and I think HKR will make good progress under him.
When Trinity get the preferred first team out on the pitch, that is the time I will judge them. When was the last time we could do that? and we're not just missing one player or two the whole squad has been decimated for months. No other team in SL has had the problems we have had with key players missing for so long. Squad players can fill one or two perhaps three injury spots but we've had it far worse than than. We desperately need the likes of Fifita and Arona back on the park.
