As I said, have a look at the Barrow forum.
But hey ho, it's only opinions. Mine is no more valid than your owd cock so fair do's.
BUT, if he does sign for wakey next year, I will remind you of my comments when wakey fans vent their spleen like the Barrow fans do!'"
Calm down fella. Iam allowed to put a thought out there. There are loads of cases of coaches/teams bringing back players that were supposed to be gone back to be good again. Either way please remind me of what you said because i will not give a damn. It is only a forum mate.

I used to love coming to your gaff mate. Christmas period games fev vs cas were out of this world in the shed (and iam a wakey fan). I remember watching Fev vs Bradford when Fran Maloney kicked a penalty restart in to touch. A member of the croud chucked the ball back in via Gerald Cordles head at point blank range!!! A proper rugby ground. Fev used to get 6-8k back then. Cru and quins get nothing like now. Speaks volumes.

Good God, if you come to the Championship and you appoint these 2 as your coaches, expect to play with 12 players for a spell in every match... these 2 are holding Hunslet back, they have excellent players, but they're restricted.

Possibly but without the experience of Rooney (or his goal kicking)
I wouldnt mind him back, I suppose you could say I'm indifferent about it.
Don't mind either way TBH.

| Ok, I'm coming late to the thread but I have two questions:
1) Why is Kear leaving in any way relevant to Rooney coming back?
Rooney didn't slag off Kear and in fact said good things in his autobiography, and if Kear did go, wouldn't the decision rest with the new coach rather than Rooney or us on here, so not sure why it is seen as settled that he would be back.
2) We are surely looking for younger talent now. Vievers, Griffin and Moore are all good goalkickers so wouldn't need cover there assuming at least one of them stays and Rooney's skill revolved a lot around his speed, and he is bound to be losing that now. Good as he was for us I don't think that is what we need next year, regardless of which league we play in.

I'd hope that Matty Wildie and Gareth Moore would be the starting half backs

| aye, - like wakey did when Rooney was with Fev!!!
Seriously, you will lose the best players, but you'll also lose those salaries.
It will take a while to adjust to the championship and a new structure of how your club is formed.
If you develop quality, entertaining players that can rip up the championship, inevitably they will want to try their hand at the highest level. and fair do's.
If a club tries to prevent this, you have a disgruntled player who doesn't give his all and it sends a message to other kids who may have considered a move to wakey that your club stands in the way of them progressing.
Both Zak and briggsy both went to SL. But cos they were particularly 'stand-outs' in that league and on long deals, we got good wonga for em.
Any good players in the championship will always attract attention from SL clubs.

| Al, I know you're only having a leg pull n'all that, but Ben is not extending our budget beyond existing levels. We've a decent bod wi decent contact able to recruit (at this level) and pull in a 'favour' or two!
I'm quite happy with Ben's signing and regard it as a zero risk quality signing for fev tho to be fair, he got little of the ball last night!
Now, back to the OP topic. Would you personally think JR would be a good signing for wakey's return to rugby outside the top flight??
(and JR is being paid much much more per week at Barra than Ben will be getting at Fev)!

| I'm going to put a different spin on this.
I agree with RFF about Rooney this year. He has been atrocious. In the game at our place he was invisible. However the year before he was still decent and one of the players in this division that just has a look of being a standard above. Harris was the same when he was playing for Fev and Webster when he was playing for Hull KR. They seem to ghost around hardly getting touched and when they get involved they look class.
In Rooney's case I actually believe that the situation at Barrow is having a massive impact. He went there on a substantial wage and probably a bit of a promise of putting together a decent SL bid. In the last twelve months Barrow seem to be imploding and you can see it in the players performances. Chopping and changing coaches, Des doing the HT team talks, Directors standing down on a weekly basis. Now Catic has gone and there are rumours that Thackray is unhappy with the travelling. Stories of financial problems and potentially facing a points deduction for a hefty salary cap breach. It is not he most harmonious place to be and I think this could be affecting Rooney's game.
I don't think he is a Boss player but I think he is a better player than RFF is making out. If you went for him and dropped I think you would have one of the best halfbacks in this division back playing for you as I think it would rejuvenate him.

There is some truth in that, players suffer from circumstance as much as anyone else.
I was never a big Rooney fan, I always thought as a player he hovered between SL and Championship standard for most of his career. Being SL standard from about 2004 - 2007 with his defence always a constant weakness I'm afraid. That's not knocking him, it's better than most manage. However in the right team at the right level he probably does have something left to offer. I've seen way to many players have their careers revitalised by moving clubs including a few at BV to reject your theory completely.
At the end of the day I'd rather risk an ageing and fading English player taking up a place than an equivalent Aussie.
