That's the only bit I understood and if it's true, good luck to the lad - I hope it works out, for him and us.

| If he does sign i hope he does have to earn his place in the team by performing in the U20's rather than just being thrown straight into the team unless we have a couple of injuries.

| As posted before, hope this is right - decent looking player whenever I have see him and a kicking game too, something we have lacked since Broughy went. With this siging I can see a massive potential up side to it, and very little downside.
Stick Tommy back to hooker and rotate with Rinaldi maybe?

| Quote ="Jim Bergerac"Moore is his own biggest fan. In fact, he's set up his own Gareth Moore Fan Club, and made himself the chairman.
Not so sure he'll cut the mustard as a SL player. Offers little apart from a decent kicking game, and some of the big lads in the top flight will literally walk through his defence.
One word of advice to John Kear - don't consider dropping him! After his reaction to not getting picked at Halifax and Batley, it'll no doubt be time to chuck the toys out of the pram again if you do!'"
watched Batley a good few times last season and this and I would agree with you on this nowhere near good enough for SL defence very poor not even the best halfback at Batley
I would say save the money and give young Matty Wildie a decent run of starts

Harsh on Matty Wildie though who has shown up really well in all his games. If we sign Moore and stick him at 7, and then put Lee in a rotation with Rinaldi where does that leave Matty??

I watched them a few times as well and whilst you're right when you say he isn't superleague standard I would add the word YET to that. Attacking wise I think the raw materials are there they just need harnessing correctly. A fulltime time envrioment will do him the world of good in trying to achieve that. But you are certainly correct in that his defence is suspect and will need a lot of work before we see him in the first team.
Have to admit whilst I like the idea of signing an up and coming english halfback this signing would have made more sense if we were likely to be playing superleague for the next three years. Not sure how its going to benefit the player if and when we get our marching orders. And where does it leave Matty Wildie and Kieron Hyde?

Playing instead of Jeffries, but more likely vying for the interchange hooker with role Lee.

Maybe - I know what you mean, but I think the kicking game alone makes him worthy of a shot - we are lacking in that department and I think our need for a tactical kicker is greater than our need to keep Matty happy. I think he may be a victim of circumstance more than anyyhing and him making way is nothing to do with his contribution so far, he would simply be taking one for the team.
Let him compete with Jeffries and Lee maybe? Put a bit of pressure on Tommy to keep up his form back in the hooking role.

| I will put pressure on Wildie to improve his kicking game because that is currently his weakness. I am yhe opinion that competition for places is a way of improving performance because if there is competition then you know that if you don't perform then you will loose your place.

I agree it should apply to the whole squad apart from Morrison who should IMO be in the team for his leadership abilities regardless of his form.

| What a joke!!! Matty Wildie is one of the best young HALFBACKS in super league and we keep playing him at 9. He has huge potential and the sooner we move lee back to 9 and interchange with rinaldi who is looking tired(i am not surprised) and play wildie with jeffires the better we will see matty go. The signing of Gareth Moore would be a kick in the teeth to Matty as was the young warrington player we signed. Matty has waited and proved his worth in the lower grades and its time this season to let him express himself at 7, if gareth comes and and it pushes wildie straight out its a disgrace. Wildie is a wakefield lad through and through and the club should be looking to build a team around him for the next ten years. The signing of Gareth Moore would simply to me signal the clubs expectation at losing it's super league status.

Would it be really? Would it really be a 'disgrace'?? Or more a misjudgment in your opinion? Strong word disgrace. One over used by people who are never seen until there is something to moan about and then everything is all of a sudden a 'disgrace'. Seems to me your reaction is completely over the top and in reality whilst it may be disappointing for wildie, even if we accept him as a very good talent I couldn't class the decision a 'disgrace'

| If he is joining us, I would of thought because he's only 21 and never played a SL game and never trained full time, he will have to prove himself and if he looks better than what's already here, he'll get a chance.
I don't get this problem, that some people have, about signing new players and getting all bent out of shape because it might stop another player already here, from getting game time, but that's what it's like at all SL clubs, you make competition for places and the cream should rise. Especially at a club like ours, who already don't have enough players for key position, leading to players playing out of position and if we get a injury crisis, good help us.

As far as I am aware regardless of contract length. If you lose your super league status the player would become free to move anyway so whether it's 1 year or 2 inevitably it would result in the same outcome. I know this from Alot of cAs contracts 3 years ago. It's basically a safety net for the player.

| No I'm not disagreeing with you, just saying really. I mean in all honesty no NRL were jumping around after him so IF not when(before anyone Slags me off) he might be willing to play championship rugby. I mean brough did n a Aussie legend in Dave Peachey. If the money is offered the player is going to stay.

| I'll just reiterate what I said earlier in the thread,
Quote ="The Clan"I'm not against Moore being picked ahead of Wildie as long as he's a better player NOW, and as long as it doesn't prevent Wildie from potentially becoming a better player than Moore through lack of opportunities brought about by short term fixes.'"
In the end the impact on Wildie depends largely on Wildie himself and partly on the man management of the situation by the coaching staff.

It's a theory that's working for Brian McDermott. The good one who coaches Reading FC. Picks players on form and performing well in training and it's seen them on a great run of form. Too many passengers in the past have got games on name and not form.

| Gareth was excellent in patches for us last year, and scored some quality tries with his trademark 'show and go'. His kicking is also very good, both from hand and in terms of kicking at goal.
He has the potential to go along way, but tended to 'go missing' in games, usually against bigger clubs, where there wasnt as much space to play in. At times he can dictate a game but only tends to do it in spurts. His defence is also a big worry, with him being caught out and 'run over' numerous times at Championship Level.
The defensive problems are perhaps a result of his size, but to play at the top level when your as physically small as that you need to be a real star peformer, i.e. Alfie Langer, Shaun Edwards, Rob Burrow. And Gareth is even smaller than those guys.
He perhaps has the potential to play at SL but at the moment he is miles of that IMO. He wasnt even first choice at Batley after the first couple of games this year, as Karl Harrison prefers a combo of Paul Handforth and Paul Mennell, who I feel, and alot of other Batley supporters agree, are superior players, especially Handforth.
With Mennell injured yesterday, we played a full back Ian Preece (who was also rumoured to have a broken hand) at 7, and to be honest he looked just as good as Gareth, and alot more willing to get involved so to speak.
Unless his kicking game is at his best, I do honestly feel he would struggle to even be first choice in the top 3 or 4 Championship teams. He certainly isnt the same level as Liam Finn at Fev, or Brambani from Dewsbury who's already been mentioned on here.
His body language has been quite poor this season too, maybe as a result of not getting the SL contract he wanted at the start of the year. This possibly explains some people having a bit of animosity towards him.
Maybe training with full time pro's will make a big difference, but personally I really couldnt imagine seeing him play in SL anytime soon.
For Gareth's sake I do hope im wrong though, and wish the lad all the best with you guys.
