Quote ="PopTart"Scrums to stay for me.
They are not great but I don't like tge set restart.
Although they are not what they were, scrums are a traditional image of the sport and taking them away is too big a step for me.
I'd happily make them contested or change the fine details but they should stay.'"
I'm definitely in the get rid camp, but I guess it depends what the NRL decide.
I don't think I've missed them at all. It gives an opportunity to make an absolute distinction from the other code and I think it has a positive effect on the speed of the game.
I felt we were going down a dead end with bigger impact props coming on fresh against tiring defences. I'm sure this was the source of increased injuries. This also meant you take a gamble on the bench and we've often come unstuck when there are injuries to more agile/athletic players and you've only got 3 x 10 minute props as substitutes.
I can't see a way to bring them back in a way that they could be competitive and tidy and not a source of repeated penalties.
I grew up in and played hooker*
at the end of the competitive scrums era, but nostalgia is not what it used to be. The game has moved on.
*I used to win a lot of scrums against the head and got through a good amount of tackling, but I couldn't pass, catch or run for toffee
P,S, sorry for derailing the thread, .... anyway 2021 squad...
I think MC suggested smaller better quality was the way we were going. It'll be interesting to see where some other clubs go when they do the sums on their finances next year. It'll need some luck with injuries, but we're due some.
