To say that people want a young hungry half is just ridiculous.
Im not bothered how young or old our halves are (or the rest of the side), people want to watch a side that plays open attacking RL and that wins a decent share of their games.
The only advantage of them being young is that, hopefully, they would have many more years to give the game.

Having said that, Finn isnt getting any younger and he's in the twilight of his career and what Trinity do need is a successor, to take on the role of HB.

But that exact backline got the ball to the wing all last season.
It isn't that they can't do it.

It's either someone with an injury affecting their play....like Finn
Or other teams working out a way to defend against us.....rushing the centres and Grix
Or other parts of our game are letting us down.....like ball control.

Or all three of course.

I am sorry but he does slow the game. How many missed tackles, 40/20, penalties given away or breaks has he made. He is playing with broken fingers which cannot help but age is definitely catching up with him.

His game management is getting slightly worse as well. How many times this season has he kicked for two only for the next set the opposition go down the other end and score 6.

I doubt that it's 100% his decision.

So he needs to be a psychic now as well ??

No dont think that part is his fault Wollo, on this one about taking the two, he cant win, as there has been several occasions when we should have taken the two, but didnt.

Im a believer that you should take the points on offer, especially if its kickable, and the game is still in the balance. It might not be the most entertaining, but it is part of game management

I heard it's still down to John Kear holding the famous two fingers up from the 4th tier of the executive boxes.

When it happens again and again you have to question it. Happened at Hull last year too, and Hull were a man down at the time I think.

Sorry but the decision to take the 2 is not down to Finn just because he kicks the goals and to suggest so is baffling.

Whether or not it comes from the coach or his assistants (Which most of the time I think it does, as we have seen many times on Sky the message get passed down to an assistant onto the players on the pitch).

You see players conferring between each other and come to a decision together, if anything it surely should be the leadership group in Kirmond and Miller that take ultimate responsibility for those decisions?

As a halfback, no. I think there is better available and if we ever want to push forward as a club we need better.

I'd trial him at FB over Jowitt whilst Grixy is out.

I wouldn't put him anywhere near FB - we have one the best FB's in SL available, with one of the most promising up and coming FB's in SL to replace him; the last thing Jowitt, or WT, need is for him to be even further away from the field due to an 'experiment' - that has in fact already been tried at Wigan and Cas, where it proved to be a failure.

Hampshire is a HB - he's either good enough at SL level, or he isn't; personally, I think the latter, but from limited evidence - and it's Chester's unenviable task to find out, without damaging our delicate league position.

On Finn - I would tend to agree, he looks to be struggling; whether that's injury or age, or both, is down to him and once again, Chester to work out.

Hard job being a coach innit - and this forum is proof positive that 99% of people who watch RL as a spectator wouldn't have a bleedin' clue how to even begin to do it.

What the hell is promising about Max Jowitt? He adds nothing more than Grix does in attack. He can't catch a ball nor tackle. If you want to take a promising and up coming player, Danny Richardson at Saints... keeping out an experienced grand final winning halfback from the side where as the so called promising and up coming FB for WT cannot get a game

Outrageous hyperbole, with very little evidence; Jowitt has missed a few bombs - so has Sam Tomkins, Ben Barba and Scott Grix - it's the occupational hazard of being a FB. To say he adds 'no more' than Grix in attack is actually a compliment, since Grix is one of the best attacking FB's in SL. As for 'can't tackle' - that's unnecessarily harsh.

I wouldn't class Danny Richardson as up and coming btw - he's already arrived, as is evidenced by his consistently good performances in an outstanding Saints side; good for him - he's an exciting young player with bags of skill and confidence - great to watch.

You're bagging a young player who still has some development to do - I don't get that at all.

Lol you've justified one of my points by saying he has missed some bombs, I do appreciate it's the occupational hazard of being a FB but it happens way more often when Jowitt is on the field. *Evidence* Round 9 against Hull FC and Round 10 against Leeds which also shows his inability to tackle.

How is Richardson not up and coming? His first or second season and played 25 games, less than Jowitt and is still only 21 (which I think is about the same age as Jowitt).

Well, everyone is entitled to an opinion but, wow.
Did you go to Salford last season when, Jowitt was exceptional, only to get dropped for the cup game the following week when Grix (and others) had a mare.
His ability was there for all to see and most Trinity fans would like to see plenty more and if Grix is out for a few weeks, hopefully we will



Jowitt went well for large parts of last season but, by our coaches own admission was over played, due to our injury situation.

Stats can only tell you so much, and can be made to tell you anything really but 1 clean break and 2 tackle busts all season doesn't look great for someone so involved in the game.

Like everyone else I'm not really sure what the answer is but I would think that the time has come to let him get his injury sorted and use Hampshire/Randell/Wood in some way to cover that period.

Richardson is a player who has landed in the first team fully formed - it happens, and fair play to the lad; he's got bags of talent and I'm enjoying watching him. It doesn't always happen though - and hasn't with Max, but that's not to suggest that he should be discarded. No team can afford to do that, let alone WT. I can entirely picture Grix taking a back seat next season and Max coming to the fore as a more physically and tactically developed player - I really hope that happens, and I would've thought anyone with an interest in growing our own players would feel the same way?

You're not reading what I'm saying, not once have I said that it doesn't happen with other fullbacks. I'm just saying it seems to happen way more when Jowitt is on the field. He doesn't seem confident under the highball which is diabolical when you're a SL Fullback.

You're right... Richardson landed in a full formed St Helens side and had to contend for the starting spot against Matty Smith, a GF winner and England international, Jonny Lomax also an England international and experienced player pushed out of his position by Barba... you then can also look to Theo Fages and even Jon Wilkin, someone who was constantly played in the halves last year. So if anything he had it all up against him to barge his way into the side.

I also want Jowitt to come into a more physical and tactical player, of course I do. It would only benefit Trinity but I really can't see it happening based on his previous contribution.

Max has missed a few bombs. To say he can't catch is ridiculous, he was safe as houses in 2016 with a solid run of games under his belt.

I would say taking the high ball is one of MJs best skills.
