| For me, I'm not decrying Tanseys ability just that given an opportunity to recruit some quality I'd have pitched for 1 player rather than 2 and gone for greater ability, joey Leilua is just an example.

I was talking about recruiting a quality overseas player who's already here being an advantage paperwork wise.
The alternative isn't to recruit lesser quality just to avoid the paperwork and I said it would take longer not too long.

Of course it's a Smith signing ffs. Why would he not know him, Tansey played 7 games for the Roosters just before Smith took over - I'd be very surprised if he didn't notice him in the 2009 match videos he will have studied in preparation for the 2010 season! Didn't know that did you.
With 142 games and 47 tries and consistent with it - the stats suggest he's not bad.

| At the end of last season I said we should have gone for him to replace Mathers. We have had no actual full back since he left and Locke won't be here next year. So look at it this way, is he a better player than mathers? I'd say so, so am quite happy. We need people who are comfy under the high ball as we will be working %ages so stick him on the wing and get us going forward and next year he's our FB.

I'm only surprised because you are making the classic assumption he wanted to come. I'm sure BS and MC would love to sign him but not everyone wants to move half way around the world, even less to a club who can only offer you security until the end of August.
We are not an attractive prospect, we not even a good bet as a shop window on present form - we can make anyone look bad.
We got BS because he's barking mad, a genius but mad - he has to be
Locke may just be a bit of luck we are overdue.

I'd say he was your classic utility back tbh so he's great cover.

Agree, and the imponderables are that I don't know whether BS & MC have attempted to sign someone of higher quality and if so whether they're not available or don't want to come.
As ever, I'm just chewing the fat and throwing Leiluas name out there but he's just an example rather than a specific target

| I think Tansey has had a bit of a raw deal at Cas this year. When he's been brought in to cover either full back or wing he's never let us down but Luke Dorn and Ben Roberts are ahead of him for full back. Denny Solomona, Justin Carney and James Care are in front of him for the wing spots and are always brought straight back into the team when fit irrespective of how well Tansey has played.
Hope he goes well for you.

| Hi Cas fan here. Don't know what's been said about JT on here up to now and I'm not going to go through all the posts. Actually he's not a bad lad and has largely played well for us this season. Don't know what NGB4W was saying or coming from, because up until, and including the Magic weekend game he was playing virtually every week at full back and has only been left out in the last 3 games. Also Clare has never been in front of him this season, and he himself is now out on DR at York.
If you watch the video when you beat us first up this season, he got our MOM, quite rightly so, as he had a real good game and took everything thrown at him. He is generally very good under the high ball, is not short of pace, is enthusiastic and is generally sound defensively. His problem is he has momentarily lapses of concentration which can cost you. For instance he can take every high ball going in a game and be sound, before dropping one straightforward one. He has obviously also had some misdemeanours off the field in the past, from what I can make out generally booze related, but he appears to have put all that behind him, although there is always a chance an isolated incident may rear it's head.
Unfortunately he dropped two or three clangers in consecutive games for us, that has had some of our fans on his back, IMO unfairly so. However we won both games so it didn't cost us. Can't comment on the cup game at Hull because I didn't see it, but obviously not many covered themselves in glory there. It did make life hard for us at Solford though.
Personally I think you will be quite happy with him, particularly in the short term. It's the short term now that counts, and I hate saying that as I may come across as patronising which I can assure you I am not. But if he can contribute to help keeping you in SL, which I honestly think he can, that's all that will matter for now.

| "Enthusiastic" Seems to crop up in most of the signings so far under BS, and definitely something we have been lacking so far this season.
it goes a long way. Remember Cockayne and Fox the other year, not world beaters but caused teams no end of problems running from dummy half. Its very much the Wakefield Way.

| Stick Tansey on the wing ahead of Riley for this season then fullback next season. Not so sure he is the answer though to the centre issue but maybe Channing will follow from Cas as suggested a few weeks ago?
Or maybe Lee Smith will come back in the next week or so?

| The Signing of Locke indicated our intention to try to stay in SL for next season at least the other three suggest we are edging our bets and preparing for the championship and what that will bring.

I didn't realise the other players were championship standard players.

| Tansey has had two very good games against Wakefield this year. He's had issues off the field in the past but I'd imagine he's grown up a bit now after going to Dewsbury and York via Sydney and Hull! Decent signing based on playing ability for me and he'll be hungry to play after not playing for the last few games

We've had players in the past with supposedly off field issues, but went on to play well in the shirt.

Sensible planning no? If/when the club drop down having a fairly settled squad gives them the best chance of bouncing straight back up.

| For next season.... As stated above Tansey is a good player. BLM I wasn't having a dig at him, from what I've heard he's grown up somewhat and is more serious about his rugby nowadays. We've had plenty with off field issues who have been excellent

| Howarth absolutely pointless if we are in championship we could sign him.next year. No other team would want a below average hooker. Tansey is far better than Owen. We don't need that position we need a prop and a centre ffs!!!

So now you know better than Brian Smith as to what we need, stunning level of arrogance even for these forums.
Isn't the lad from Saints a prop, or is he one of those midget props you don't like?

When Barrie Mac started out, he was 14 stone and only 5'10".
He didn't do too bad for a 'midget' NGB4C!
