| Quote ="MashPotatoes"How can you put money on Wakey finishing bottom and say it's not beyond them to finish in the 8 ?
It simply makes no sense. Yes it's very hard to understand.
Either you like wasting you're £££ or you think Wakey could make the 8. Which one is it ?'"
Wtf?
I wouldn't put money on anyone, because it's hard to call. There's only 5 spots between 8th and last so it's not a huge jump. Of all the teams I think you are most likely to finish last, but every side is capable of making the 8. On the flip side I think we will finish 8th, but it's also feasible that we could finish bottom. What's wrong with that?

No animosity from me. I've come here with a couple of comments about the game, none of which are untrue. I've not said anything negative about your club, and yet nearly every poster has been on my back.
Why so defensive?

Whoever finish bottom 4 will almost certainly stay in Superleague. There's still a pretty big gulf.'" who are your players who are going to turn that no hope team who played yesterday into a top 7 or 8 team?

| I think some of us need to be a little less sensitive. We are the bookies favourites to finish bottom (by quite a bit too) and its not detrimental for opposition fans to think we will finish bottom.
Its also a tag we have, in the past thrived on. We don't mind being favourites to finish last, it motivates us.
With regards to yesterdays game, you can only play what's in front of you. We will have got a lot more out of the game
(not just results wise) than FC. Strange choice of squad by Radford IMO.

| The good old pre season friendly debate the winning sides fans love it can't wait for the season to start the losing side fans say it's a friendly that side won't start a league game. Both opinions are correct and as a Wakefield fan I'm more than happy with yesterday's performance but the real action starts in a couple of weeks. As for people saying Hull are not a big club? There are only a few genuine big clubs in RL and hull are one of them wish we were as big. We are favourites to finish bottom even us Wakey fans must admit that we just need to prove them wrong.

| I agree.
No problem with the Hull fans or club.
They are generally good genuine supporters.
They are indeed a big club with a team that has had success, a big stadium, a big following and a great catchment area for young players.
The only thing is, they have not hit their potential recently and we in particular have had some good results against them. Home and away.

Come on, you must realise who we had missing??
I expect our starting 13 at Hudds to be below:
Shaul/Rankin (shaul played for a bit, Ranking was missing)
Lineham
Sa (didn't play yesterday)
Yeaman (didn't Play yesterday)
Talanoa (didn't play yesterday)
Pryce (didn't play yesterday)
Sneyd
Paea (didn't play yesterday)
Houghton (didn't play yesterday)
Watts (didn't play yesterday)
Ellis (played 20mins)
Minichiello (didn't play yesterday)
Westerman (didn't play yesterday
So 9 of our expected starting 13 didn't play at all, and Ellis/Shaul only had minimal game time. To say that how we played yesterday will represent our season is unrealistic

You took the words out of my mouth. Was stood with a few Hull supporters yesterday and we all appreciated the good bits on both sides (and groaned at the bad ones!)

I agree I don't really get why Radford did it and what we got out if it. I think Radford knew 15 of his team for the first game and wanted to look at fringe players for the last two bench places.
Also if we had played our full strength team and we got a couple of key in key positions like our neighbours have then our fans would be going mad.
As soon as I saw our team and yours (which as strong as it has been for years) I knew it would be an easy victory that's not to say that Wakey don't deserve any credit or that our fringe players shouldn't be disappointed with their performances.
On wakey finishing bottom and Hull position it's really hard to say as the league is easily the hardest to predict with all teams looking stronger. Both teams could finish anywhere from 7th-12th.

| I think people truly mis the point of friendlies - the result is by and large irrelevant, though it is always nicer to win.
For us it was an excellent day because it went to plan. It does however offer no real guide to how we will perform against Cas.
It was a success because…
1: No injuries unlike the poor lad from Hull (look nasty).
2: No injuries I know of.
3: A very good physical run out.
4: A lost tries meaning a lot of moves were tested and within the confines of a friendly proved effective.
5: This in turn gives us a confidence boost which is goods long as it don't turn into complacency or an unfounded sense of superiority in which case Cas will steamroller us.
Over all three friendlies each proportionately harder than the last culminating in a good and entertaining win. It's no guarantee of a great season but I don't think you can ask for much more from a pre-season. For Webster it's that box ticked and that's all it is.
Ditto Hull, they could be a completely different team come season kick off.

Good post, in the past we have looked like world beaters in pre-season and then looked dreadful when the season starts, personally I wouldn't have done what Radford did yesterday, but that's up to him and the test of if that was the right decision will be seen in a couple of weeks.
The injury to Curtis Naughton isn't that bad, just banged his head and expects to be Ok when the season starts.

| In regards to us getting tipped for bottom again - it would be interesting to see how many years we've been favourites for this and subsequently how many years they've been wrong, could it be almost every year we've been in SL?
