wow so you would rather of kept the black market going then at the cost of the honest fans that was willing to pay the going rate to watch a sporting game, and you say that they have alienated fans and that is the reason for the drop in attendance, the only ones the have alienated is the ones that can't get the cheap tickets or even jump the wall
'"
A bit harsh that old boy, the main point he's trying to make is that the people who had the most to lose in these price increases are the ones what can ill afford these rises the most, that being the students with either very little or no cash at all, but having been said before by plenty on here these fans are part of the future of this club and have been penalised financially the most, by your definition I can't see how that makes them dishonest.

| Quote ="wrencat1873"Nobody can force anyone to buy a season ticket to watch Wakefield.
The value o a Wakefield S/T was heavily eroded under the previous regime and now that S/T prices are back to a more realistic level, nobody wants to pay.
To compare a S/T to watching down your local is utterly ridiculous
The simple choice is whether enough people actually want to pay to support a pro rugby club in Wakefield and if so, we should be prepared to pay the full price.
The club almost wend bust on the back of the give away tickets and none of us want that to happen and a S/T is still excellent value
15/16 games of top flight RL for £15/16 (with a S/T), it costs half that just to go to the cinema !'"
A couple of hours entertainment, in warm comfortable surroundings for half the price? Sounds a good idea that!

| The root cause of all this problem is that the product we're trying to sell is poor. Only when we get a reasonably successful side will the floaters be prepared to pay a fair price.

I'm sure everybody would agree about the freeloaders but as the discussion was about the concessions it makes your point irrelevent. As for the last part that was just yet another excuse for you to have yet another pop at anyone who has the temerity to not agree with something the club has done and was unnecessary.

We did it at Cas Tigers in 2012, maybe not as cheap as as you think - About 15K for initial set up and running costs.

What!
Whatever you think of Wakefield's standing within the League or the game the product on the field is fantastic. You're watching athletes playing at the highest level of domestic Rugby of either code, whether that's Salford, Widnes or whoever Vs Wakefield.
Let's not get blasé about the quality of the sporting competition we watch or confuse our annual struggles with poor entertainment. Even when we're getting well beaten the games are entertaining and are better than most sports we could be following.

I'm not sure, but I think the reason the cost was so high was because of the whole package and not simply the card itself. The souvenir boxes, the beanie hats, pens and free entry for a friend for one game will have taken the bulk of the cost I would have thought. I'm surprised the club haven't re-introduced the card though; I think they were much better than the old style ticket books.

It might surprise you to know that this is chairman Carter's second season in command and as far as I'm aware he stopped all that nonsense with the freebies at the beginning of last season, so why confuse the issue by bringing this into the debate(unless you know something the rest of us don't) when clearly the majority of the posts' on this thread is about the withdrawal of student concessions which according to your post you don't have a problem with, that being the case what is your point. As for your last remark I suppose if the fans' get fed up of listening to people like the students' whining at matches they'll stop going that's assuming there are any students' still attending to do any whining.

Yes i think we all agree on the stopping of the freebies its no longer an issue, if we take the concession age rise out of the equation what we are basically saying is we encoraged the kids to attend for say ten years or so then as soon as they finish being a junior they jump straight up to adult with a season ticket increase from £70 to £250, its a big jump and risks loosing many of the young supporters whom we have been encoraging to attend matches regularly. Maybe its just me but it just doesnt seem to make sense. Anyway it is what it is and we will see but thats the last i will say on the issue.

Surely thats all down to personal opinion. I enjoy watching a number of different sports all of which have differing skill sets, just being a good athlete doesn't always equate to producing a great spectacle. Whilst out of misguided loyalty i still attend but for me RL is a more sterile version of the one i started watching many years ago with the majority of players in general less 'skillful' but with more strength and fitness and a lot better at wrestling. I find there are too many 'identikit' players these days, the 6ft 2, 16 stone, straight line runners. Maybe there is a touch of nostalgia getting in the way but many times last season i found myself at a game actually bored at what was being served up. But that is just my personal opinion and others may love it that way. I do though know there are many that feel the same.
And anyway i assume that the poster was referring to the Wakey performances in particular which, bar the occasional flicker, have in general been pretty rubbish for 50 years!

I remember that now - still wear the beanie hat ! Also, one of the benefits of the card system is that it is not transferrable and I would like us to go back to it - maybe when/if we move.

Well go spend £32 a game to watch Leeds Utd then and compare the level of skill and entertainment on show with your average SL game.
I dissagree about the skills level of players now as well, yes, there are less mavericks, less freedom of expression and the game is more planned but the skills levels of most players is higher. I also dissagree about straight line runners, particularly in the forwards there were far more in the 70s and 80s than there are today. Kids of 11 and 12 are taught to run angles and use footwork, to read what's in front of them and vary their lines/speed accordingly.
I/we digress a little and I don't want to drag the thread off topic though

My point is there are better alternatives than watching Trinity within our area when you want to follow a successful club. Majority of potential support looks at Wins v Losses column, that's why a League table of performance is virtually identical to one showing crowds.

Well nearly 18K did on a snowy january evening last night. And i'd guarantee you there are more football fans in Wakefield than rugby so are they all wrong? Many i know happily enjoy watching both and to try and question skill levels accross sport is nothing short of ridiculous. Whether you are more entertained watching football or rugby is purely subjective.
More structure + less mavericks & freedom of expression = less entertainment for me. But again thats purely subjective. And kids were always taught to run angles, i was 30 years ago! But these days they are also taught to wrestle as the game is all about elbows and knees, winning the ruck and fast play the balls with too many runs from dummy half off the back of it. Less movement of the the ball comes from those tactics and one newby i took last year was suitably unimpressed. 'It's just five runs and a kick down the field or to the corner everytime' was the phrase he used.
I agree though this is off topic and i'll leave this alone. If people are happy they will pay what it costs, if they don't they won't. FWIW i feel the club should have kept the concessions as they were but there you go.

£32 to watch a bunch of over paid prima donnas vs £21 to watch 2 teams genuinely putting their bodies on the line (not feigning a trip or conning a referee)

I have to agree with modern RL being more power based, but skill levels (along with fitness and strength) have certainly improved since the sport went full time.

Not having a laugh, plenty more people think paying that to watch football is value for money than they do paying to watch their local rugby teams. Leeds Utd average about the same as Wakey, Cas & the Rhinos put together on a weekly basis, whatever people on a RL forum might think of the 'beautiful' game (and to some extent i agree with you about by the way!). But i imagine if you asked a majority of soccer fans they wouldn't pay £22 to watch us either! It's all relative, what we should be doing regarding season tickets is not giving people an excuse not to renew. We have done that with this policy change. It's needs to be remembered that RL isn't even the biggest sport in its own heartland, we need to make sure it is not alienating its own.
And there is no doubt fitness levels have improved but i can't agree with skill levels. They may well be just as talented but how would know as has been said they are coached not to show it and stick to game plans which for me leads to a more sterile game than it used to be. Miller picked over Sammut seems to be an example of that. Again just my own opinion but attendances were down at most clubs last year even off the back off a successful world cup so something isn't right somewhere. I would reduce wrestling, go back to the 5 metres rule and reduce substitutions to try and bring back the true creative play. Whether it would help shift more tickets i don't know but i reckon it would help.

| Saying people are stupid for paying more to watch something you don't like doesn't really help us.
It's a fine opinion but we need people to buy tickest for Wakefield Trinity. Telling them (and I know we are not actually doing that) to just change their mind won't do it.
People go watch football over Wakefield because they
1) Prefer football
2) Have limited money and prefer football
3) their mates go and just go to be "In"
4) They don't know about other sports so go where they know
We can only change 3 and 4.

Football is the "National Sport" and it will remain so for the foreseeable future, but when you consider that there are 3 SL clubs within Leeds United's catchment area, your analogy may not be right ??
I have to say that your forum name seems out of place with your views on attending Wakey games.
Maybe you should be called "Wakey when it suits" and not "Wakey till I die", unless you are coming to us from beyond the grave

| Quote ="snowie"I'm not talking about the students and OAP's, there's been cheaper tickets and even freebies been handed around like sweets for a long time with a scant disregard for the clubs future, that with the cheeky buggers that jump the walls,
you reap what you sew and now the hard line has been put in front there's mass hysteria and outrage that this is all unfair
what the club should do is with every admittance there should be ear plugs handed out just so you don't hear all the whining that goes on'"
I remember under Glover when nobody questioned what was happening, those fans who knew something was wrong were labelled as whingers and moaners. Now MC is here he has his own set of fans who will defend any decision he makes without question because it suits there agenda. End of the day most on this forum have the best interests of the club at heart.
