| Not all oldsters are against a merger.
I have supported for over 50 years and am frustrated at the lack of acheivment since the heady days of the sixties.
Before anyone comes in with --- but you live in France---- I can state that I have probably spent more on the club than most on this forum.
Further to that I still do still contribute and get over to watch when ever I can ---- when the wife allows.
Newmarket is the perfect venue being almost equidistant from both sets of fans.
The real problem has always been the name in my opinion.
Trinity Tigers is fine as someone previously suggested but the problem there is we need the name of Wakefield to promote both club and city, or metropolitan area.
A really successful club allied to the ongoing regeneration would really put Wakefield back on the map and more able to compete with the ever encroaching Leeds.
But what could we call the new club?

| I think a merged club could be far more successful than either club individually could ever dream of being.
However i am happy to hold back that success in line with the rest of the proud supporters of each club!!

| Quote ="bren2k"I'm not sure it is you know.
As for the merger talk - head says it's the most sensible way forward, even if heart objects; if St George Illawara Dragons can work, I see no reason that the Wakefield Castleford Panthers couldn't.
It would take people like us to die off though, before it became a success; I'm certain that my son would go watch a successful team in a fancy stadium, because he likes his rugby league and he likes watching winners, and no doubt he'd take his kids and that's how the next generation of diehards is born - just that they'd be diehard supporters of a new team.
I know it's heresy, but the prospect of one club benefitting from the young players we produce in the district and harnessing the latent support that exists for RL, is positively mouthwatering; I think the RFL would be cock-a-hoop if it happened, and we might find their attitude towards the venture would be extremely positive - certainly they'd have less of a headache come franchise time.'"
TBH I think Frogcats 500k is close.
I'm not sure why you think it's as little as 100k when AG said he intended to spend up to or close the the cap. No way were we near cap last year.
Added to this last years star signings were Jeremy Smith and Tommy Lee with Morrison and Rinaldi adding the bulk of the SL experience - no dis-respect but there is not a huge amount of cash there, the rest ware a real bargain mix.
Since then we have signed, Tim Smith, Collis, Aiton, John and Southern - all players who could get an NRL birth at a push - they don't come cheap.
Ellis, Wilkes, Raleigh, Washbrook, Fox, Kirmond, Mellors etc were all SL regulars last years and far from cast offs. Again, not cheap.
Big Ali may no longer command super star wages but again won't come cheap either.
You start adding that lot together compared to last year and 500k sounds very reasonable indeed - in which case JK has a point. Whether he'd have produced a better team if he'd have got that 500k is debatable.

| I heard last seasons spend was about £800K, and AG said we would be spending around £1.2, so i make Frogcat and Vastman about right.
The season previous however was about £1.1 so this is where comparisons IMO should be made, and when JK states i'd love to coach that side, he did and we were gash!!

I'd advise taking a more Gentle approach to claims like that

Is he taking about EH or his proposed stadium???
Bottom line in my view is that the WR scenario is going to take a hell of a long time to resolve.'"
That quote from Richard Wright was the most amusing part of this whole scenario. Do you think he realises what he is saying sometimes????

Before everyone starts bashing Kear, we should remember that he had a much weaker squad last season, and managed to beat Hull KR at home, Bradford at home and Hull away, as well as Huddersfield at home. That's eight points from those four teams alone, and by Sunday night we not have any points from the same sides.

Very good point. I have no issue with Agar but JK worked a miracle last year IMHO. You don't need to build one up by knocking down the other, they both had/have difficult jobs to do - way beyond the ability range of anyone on here unless Wayne Bennett has taken to posting on here. You never know

They will get the same thing they got out of selling Wheldon Road to a Super Market, just Opus and Cas will receive less cash.
They're a company that make money doing this sort of thing, and an area as big as what Cas are letting them sell will give them a nice tidy profit, so why wouldn't they want to sell it?

I was comparing the last few seasons with (admittedly one TV game) how Batley played. I don't expect us to do much this season, so playing entertaining rugby and competing while the team grows to know each other will do me fine.

it's a question that should be levelled at some within council circles, because the rumours are that there is a lot of effort going in to moving a planning gain from one place to another.

I understand why they would want to sell WR for housing and get their cut, that bit makes sense. What I don't get is how does it tie in with the sale of the Nestle site? How and why should Cas gain out of that? Its nothing to do with them, surely the money will be Nestles', less opus' cut?

It will be, Opus will just have land deals with Nestle as well as Cas.
Opus are going to do very well out of this, set out with 1 bit of land end up with 2 just down the road from each other both sold, cracking business by them.

Not sure I follow. Are you suggesting that the council might want a company to pay over the odds for a piece of land based on what theoretically could be built there, even if the likelihood of it happening is remote?
Or are we talking about a sale of land including a levy put into a section 106 agreement to provide additional monies for another build next to, lets say, a motorway?

I actually thought we played some good rugby under Kear. The last 18 months were pretty dire, but with what was happening with the club and the quality of players we had, that is only to be expected. The play-off season was good to watch, and we started the following year like an house on fire. It weren't till we lost Brough, Tronc and Newton in quick succession that things started to go down hill, as I'm sure it would at any club which lost three such influencial players. Having said that, we're throwing it about well this year and we just need that killer instinct when we are dominating teams. I'm sure having Amor back will help, and if Smith and John can click at half-back then I'm sure the wins will start coming.

We did, some great stuff (by our recent standards )from 2007 - 2009 - the decline on field had little to do with JK although I'm sure he did what was best for him towards the end - who wouldn't.

Could it be that with Tigers fans on board they would have less resistance to building on Nestles site, the couple of rows of houses between the two sites might not want the development, the houses do seem to be in the way when you look on google earth with any master plan for the area!

The season we beat Saints at home after being 2 or 3 scores down early on was very good to watch. Could of been the same season Klein stopped us from beating Leeds by penalising us to death only for us to come back really strongly and nearly nick it. Although the Leeds game could've been the year after I lose track. Either way we did play some decent RL under Kear that should not be forgotten

think about the 106 agreement at NM and transfer it to the full length of wheldon road. do the maths.
