It was always likely that Newmarket wouldn't be ready for the start of the 2012 season if the application hadn't been called in. The PI guidelines mean that it has to commence within 22 weeks of the decision being made to call the application in. It's not a major scheme that would need a ridiculously long PI (unlike a new international airport for example) so the PI should be completed with in weeks rather than months once its underway. The SoS then has something like 7 weeks to give his decision.
On this basis, the outcome should be known in late summer. While this isn't ideal from a franchising perspective, there's no reason to think that we shouldn't be moving into Newmarket at the start of the 2013 season.
In the meantime we share at a ground that already meets SL standards (presumably Oakwell) - the only difference from Plan A being that we're there for a full season rather than half a season.
It's clear that a good number of posters on this forum have lost a proper sense of perspective in what's happening. The various rumours of impending doom are ONLY on this forum - or do you really think that WTWRLFC has so much power over the press that it's surpressing all sorts of rumours??? Yes, we are clearly at risk of losing our franchise, but no amount of moaning about this, that or t'other will change that.
If you are really fans of this great club then take a & get behind the club FFS. If you don't want to do that then we'll be better off without you.

First I'm not a member of the BoD - just a fan & shareholder, albeit one who has worked with the club as part of a previous job.
As for my opinion about whether you want to get behind the club or not, it isn't about whether you go to the home or the away games. It's much simpler than that - if you don't want to support the club 100% then pi$$ off to Cas or Leeds instead.

Well unless you or someone you know has got a few million quid to spare you're going to have to put up with the current BoD & coaching staff for this season at least. I would be far more worried about the business credentials of someone buying the club before the franchising decision is known than I am about the current management (accepting that they do have their faults - but then again how many of us don't).

Buying the club may not cost the earth, but injecting the cash that's needed to transform it is another thing altogether. Like I said the current BoD have their faults, but there clearly isn't anyone with the combination of available funds & business sense to take things forward for the time being.

Easy mistake to make
Think we are too far down the line now for a change to be honest, I respect what people have done to get us to this point, but currently we have a club and more importantly a team that people in the town and now even the die hards dont want.
A year ago we had the world at our feet, but somebody somewhere got the maths wrong, hence for whatever reason players left but more importantly were not replaced by players of the same quality, despite us presumably having budgetted for their departed salaries. Every move since the Brough debacle has been a money saving move, and now we are where we are.
Said it before but this started when we lost to catalan at home at the end of 2009, and then failed to nail down Mr Brough with the money we didnt need to spend another half back or hooker, from there on in we were screwed.

I don't think that anyone - including Ted - thinks that new investment is needed. There's been plenty of threads on the subject in the last couple of years and every time it's generally been accepted that we aren't going to see anyone seriously coming to the table until the 2012 franchising is known.
If we get a franchise then the realistic investment needed (rather than purchase price) to take us into a position where we are seriously challenging from honours each year will be upwards of £10m over a period of 5 years or so. If we don't get a franchise then it probably only needs a couple of million over 3 years with a couple of million more when we get a franchise back just to compete at SL level.
Either way this investment is something that whoever takes over the club will never get back, so it needs somebody with VERY deep pockets who has a genuine passion for the club. Given that there's a distinct absence of Bentleys & Ferraris around BV on a match day it's probably a safe bet that anyone trying to count the potential investors to replace Ted would have fingers to spare on one hand when they'd got around the ground (not that it's hard when you only need two hands to count the total crowd ).
Like I said, Ted has his faults (many of which he will admit to) but one thing that can't be denied is his love for the club.

.......and your estimate to what would have needed investing for the same playing return this time last year?? or more importantly close season after 2009, think you have a pointnow though, we are maybe a million a year behind where we were then.

Totally agree with the above. The sad fact about it is a) it has been allowed to get to this and b) that certain sections of our fan base are willing to put up with it cos Ted tries really hard and loves the club (even though he doesnt seem to have a clue about how to run a professional sports team) and despite JK packing his bags and having the taxi to the airport booked, they are happy to let him stay because they dont think anyone can do any better than him (desipte the 3 wins in the last 20 games !!!) .

Can you offer that section of fans an alternative to TR and JK, a simple yes or no will do.

think the time has now passed where a viable alternative can be brought in and be a success sadly, no coach or investor in their right mind would come in now, however a year ago they probably would have, I got off here for a while because of the Newmarket will save our day mentality, it wont and would never have without a solid playing platform and the core fans that go with that, we had all our eggs in one basket from 2009 and now the basket has a bloody great big hole in it, i will always respect trb and others for what they have done for my club but in the end somebody somewhere got the economics and maths wrong, I fear now our best hope is a drop out of SL and a steady recovery over a period of time,no thats not our best hope, its our only hope.

We got greedy with JK when we tried to get compensation - he wanted to go, he should have been allowed to. AL there must be another coach out there who can bring some fresh ideas and some entertaining Rugby - if they only won 4 games out of 20, it would still be an improvement.
Re Ted, he hasn't got a pot to pee in, we are told he hasn't put money into the club for a while and therefore we would not be missing his investment if he were to step aside. That said, I accept that at the present time, we do not look like a viable proposition for potential investors. However, his family members and hangers on occupy a number of jobs at the club, which i presume as others do, is paying them a decent wage.
If Ted really loves the club, then he should at the least dispense with some of these people and use the money saved on their wages to bring some people on board who have some business nouse and can instigate a more professional running of the club and improve the image of the club at the same time.
I would ask whether certain people would still have jobs at the club if they weren't related to Ted.

If Ted really loves the club, then he should at the least dispense with some of these people and use the money saved on their wages to bring some people on board who have some business nouse and can instigate a more professional running of the club and improve the image of the club at the same time.
I would ask whether certain people would still have jobs at the club if they weren't related to Ted.'"
If someone does not want to be at the club (JK) then i agree he should have gone and if what you say is true then yes its a mistake imo.
Ted, well i'm finding it harder and harder to disagree with some posters and maybe its too late for the club, maybe i'm guilty of playing a part in it, i just don't know.

| Warren Jowitt for coach - had only 40 grand for the full squad at Dewsbury the last 2 seasons - won every game in his first full season & then kept them in the championship despite a bad injury list early season. ( apparently team budget been halved for this year ). Assistant French coach ( ok they lost to Wales ! ) & ex player . He'd probably say "sod that" , but a better option than what we've got IMO . (no I'm not his agent / dad !)
As for Ted's money - I heard that when he was asked about his iva , he was asked about how this would affect the club ? He said it wouldn't as he never put any of his own money into the club anyway !!
