| I don't get the big outrage at having to travel from Wakefield to Cas. I do it every week, and it only takes me about 5 or 10 minutes longer than it did when I lived in Normanton. Hardly a trek. But I guess it's easy for me to say this as I might not live as far out as some people.

| Quote ="coco the fullback"Just a small point.
In the modern entertainment industry the entry fee is just one opportunity to make the all important wonga.
You need to sell all sorts of merchandise, lottery opportunities, supporting literature and especiallly food and drink. The best way to do this is to have a captive audience where you are the sole supplier.
The risk at GH with all those other attractions/distractions is that the fans are only in the stadium for the minimal length of time to watch the game and their additional cash is leaked to other businesses.'"
The vast majority of fans only spend the minimum times inside grounds as it is (at cas less than 10% of fans are there an hour before or after kick off), so i doubt it will make much differance and that will be balanced out by the fact that the shop and bar (which will be open all week round) will be have more people passing by and will make money 7 days a week. Cant see it affecting the lottery, programme or shirt sales either.

It's not the fact they have to travel, per se. It's just pettiness towards Cas.

| It could all be academic now anyway, news breaking is that Hicksons has been bought by a chinese company and the chemical license revoked freeing up the sale of the jungle, on that note we should go it alone and turn our backs when Trin come with the begging bowl
Shame cos it could be the end of them

Great news, we can both go it alone. You don't need the council land and neither do Wakefield. No need to argue any more. New stadiums for both, brilliant

I heard a murmuring about two weeks back that the license was in the process of being removed, although with no actual details. Think I also heard the council had got their act together with regards to the compulsory purchase too.

| Quote ="ambernotyeller"And you are failing to see my point, you want it in your back yard and the rest can go to hell, well it may surprise you to find that Cas supporters want it in their back yard too.
Lets look at a typical matchday in the future, arrive at exscape have a wander round and a few pints before the game, watch the game in a purpose built stadium, out for a bit of something to eat at ione of the many food outlets and a bit of shopping to pacify the mrs then on to the train for the journey home, as opposed to turn up, show the family round the industrial units and mebbe a burger at the van, watch the game in a purpose built stadium , out for another look at the warehouse then into the car for the drive home.
I think you will find , visiting supporters would prefer the first option
It really is a no brainer isnt it ????
you cant beat a day out with the family looking at industrial units can you .......... nosirree'"
That alone should be enough to convince any rugby fan that Newmarket is the only option!

"The report says that one of the planning conditions proposed would require the developer to carry out improvements to existing roads from Leeds Road, along Colorado Way to the proposed site.
One stumbling block has been the fact that some of the land needed for the development is owned by third party retail outlets."
The developer asked the council to consider the use of compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) on the access road for road improvements to be carried out"
As far as I am aware this CPO is for a few small pieces of grassed area's out side the Ford Garrage, Pizza Hut, B&Q etc to enable the new gyratory sytem to be constructed. There is a plan showing the area's in question somewhere on the net.

| 'The developer asked the council to consider the use of compulsory purchase orders (CPOs) on the access road for road improvements to be carried out.'
From first hand knowledge of this type of situation (I had a buisness CPO by Barnsley Council) from start to finish it took just under 4 years. We actually set a legal precedent as a tenant in this case. The council will obviously say that because of the recession the land/busines is only worth X amount and the landlord/tenant will explain to the council that they are willing to wait for the upturn and so it will go on and on.
If Cas are pining hopes on this going through quickly then think again.
Look's like Newmarket then kid's !!

Not saying the foot outlets are anything special, but plenty of people still eat in them and would do so on a match day. wouldnt know about the chinese last time i went to the indian it was quite nice but that was a few years ago.
It could be a very expensive day out with bowling, cinema, lazer tag, skiing, climbing and in the future surfing as well as shoping, eating drinking and rugby, but you can tailer to your own budget, if you cant afford it you dont have to do it and at least you have a great deal of choice, which is obviously a good thing.
As for the train turning up on time well that goes the same for any public transport, if the park and ride buses are late setting off to newmarket your in the same boat.
I accept that as you say its your own personal opinion (as it happens i prefer to go drinking round cas than xscape but theres alot of my mates that have the opposite view) and the whole package isnt for everyone, but objectivley i'm sure you can i agree that there will be many that do fancy the idea of taking there families out for a big funpacked day with something for the whole family to enjoy.'"

| Is the issue any more or less than this?...
I was posting a reply to an aussie on another thread and this developed... it seems simple to me, and is as I understood the process to be developing:
we have two clubs who have attracted millions of private investment into two sperate schemes... and, as I understand it... just need the council to honour a land loan agreement for both schemes to be built.
Infrastructure, roads etc are all covered in the planning of both projects, which include lots of community based schemes for sports and other facilities.... including jobs and employment opportunities
But this is not just about two clubs getting a stadium each... there is so much more at stake in this for the future of sport in the City of Wakefield and the Town of Castleford...
As I understand it the council have said that they will only release the land (against which loans can be drawn) if both clubs chose one venue and share, they have NOT reduced the amount of land in value at all... we had two pieces of land , two offers, land value = 2 million pounds each... now the offer is the same land , the same value, total 4 million but to go to one project only!
So this is not about available council funds or cost cutting!...
I believe the wakefield scheme doesnt need the combine amount of that offer to continue (4 million)... it needs the initially agreed amount (2 million) and council goodwill with regard to the planning application process. Which would suggest, but I have no proof, that Castleford do need the extra funds.
(at this point I would have to confirm that I trust neither club to tell the truth!)
We are told that the Wakefield scheme includes lots of additional sports facilities, indoor and outdoor, centres of excellence etc, for which sports foundation grants and lottery funding has been agreed, along with some very notable partners in business and education.
Allied to this is the buy-in of a willing developer (Yorkcourt) to include the costs of construction in the development of a wider business and retail centre...
Castleford have a developer and architect and are close to fulfilling the minor aspects which could delay their attempts... the Glasshoughton Stadium is to be based around existing tourist attractions and shopping facilities, but will have less of a focus on centres of sporting excellence (no discredit to the Cas team intended!)
The two are very different and council funding fundamental has not changed... I dont see the problem, so what are the council playing at?
Are they trying to force Wakefield to Glasshoughton, risking the loss of the other sports facilities - leaving the business and retail development to be built at a later date... albeit inevitably, and taking Trinity from its core support.
Are they trying to force Cas to Newmarket, leaving the glasshoughton site to other, more lucrative, leisure developers at a later date, and taking Cas from their core support.
[iOr is it that they are genuinely trying to kill off any sporting identity for the area in the hope of becoming a suburd of Greater Leeds??[/i
I dont get it so will someone please explain?
