| We still have the benefit of Cooke's kicking game which is at least a good substitute, plus we get his long passing game. Cooke should only get better with time with the squad and JK. Sammy has also shown that he can step up to the plate when the onus is on him to do so. Pity that Kirmond is only here for a short time, but at least we've got Korki tied up for another year. The future's still bright

| Quote ="mwildcats"Glad the whole matter is sorted in effect we've got korky on our books now with hudds still paying some of his wages, Kirmond ive admired since he was on the wing vs fev and adds abit of size up top.
I do know danny wasn't the most liked person in the dressing room and that we have to move on quickly which is a real possibility with the form of obst and cooke and the targets we have for next year. However the assumption that we will not miss brough is frankly ludicrous imo, as brown himself finding a natural scrum half with pace and the best kicking game in the league is hard to come by, over recent seasons there has been no moaning about kicks on the 5 going into full backs hands. Alot of the time the opposistion have started making progress up the field from there own 20 making it easier for us to defend, his goal line drop outs reach 60metres.
How many try's have we scored from his kicks indeed how many try's has millard alone in 7games scored from his kicks....Gone where the days where when we scored a try on touchline it was more or less guaranteed to be a 4 pointer, with danny 90% of the time it was converted to 6 like it or not that won us games, cooke hasn't kicked for a while obst has done well so far, morrison hasn't kicked for yonks, and jeffries is ok. Anyone remember brough's kick vs bradford at murrayfield that lad has got us outta the brown stuff so many times.
Catnap well done on the motivational speach but he's a loss, I understand we were never likely to keep him and therefore in the long term how can he be construed as a loss, but imo losing the best kicker in SL will affect your team. AND NO ONE'S GONNA CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE.
Best of luck danny, you have significantly helped us in reaching the top part of the league and playoff's semi finals, a player of your ability deserves trophies unfortunately that couldn't be with us. Hope you do well at the giants (kill me now) apart from when you play us.'"
Agree 100% he is a big loss and I don't buy the counter argument. That said catnaps sentiment is correct, we will recover, rectify and revive quickly and move on from any short term blip - we always do!

| Quote ="Richie_L"Danny Brough does NOT have a conversion rate of 90%. This season's stats show as follows.
Tickle 23/24 95.8%
Witt 19/23 82.6%
Dobson 18/22 81.8%
Eastmond 31/39 79.5%
Brough 18/23 78.3%
Richards 34/48 70.8%
And as for kicking in live play, I would certainly rate Witt, Dobson, Eastmond higher than Brough - and that doesn't even include those that don't regulary kick for goal for their club or those currently injured such as Sinfield who is widely regarded one of the top kickers in the country.
Let's not get over-excited with our praise for the man - he is a fairly good kicker, but he isn't the best and he certainly not the worst. Rooney was a fairly good kicker a lot of the time too when he was here, but he certainly wasn't the best or worst either.'"
Don't agree, Witt and Dobson are good but no way is Eastmond a better open field kicker than Brough.

neither is dobson imo, probably on a par. not seen witt. eastmond nowhere near on what i've seen. brough is a very good kicker no doubt about it but he's not some kind of kicking god.
sad he's gone but we'll be reet, as has been said, we always are

| Given DB was one of the clubs top earners and we are paying Cooke with the Newton money does this mean we have the money to bring in a new player(s)? If so should we pocket it or strengthen the team?
Thoughts?

| Whatever we all think of DB, good, bad, indifferent, brilliant, tempramental etc, losing the individual is of little concern to me.
The effect on the team on the field, and the club in general, is far and away more important.
For my pennies worth, the start of the second half at Hull KR spoke volumes, as did our approach on Sunday. This after our annual huddersfield thrashing.
I feel somehow now we are at least as strong, tho' more probably a stronger unit.
Huddersfield have got a very good individual.
Thanks Danny, good luck in your career.

He will be playing for Brisbane Broncos or Bramley Buffaloes in 2014.

| kirkmond on loan?
cant really see how we will benefit from the loan of a fringe player as opposed to loosing a first team regular and playmaker like Danny Brough
Lets just hope that we use the money and get Brett Finch ASAP. Danny was our star player and we need to replace him with one fast.
Good luck to Danny (although god only knows why he chose Huddersfield? i suppose he could have gone to any club he wanted really)
totally bemused again as to why we always just cash in for short term gain leaving is wallowing in the mid to lower parts of the table (Nigel Wright, Henry Paul, Ellis, Solomona and now Broughy to name a few)
I just hope Cooke finds some of his earlier career form and we end up with a half decent run in to the end of season

I'd say we're in a better position now! Korki for keeps, Kirmond on loan, Cookie ours, a wedge of cash (with rumours of Finch), Gledhill signed up, Newton's wage freed and Hudds get to deal with the Brough-Drew feud. Plus, when we sold Ellis the money seemed to disappear. I think this time round considering how well this deal has worked for us I think the board and JK will do something a lot more exciting. Plus, weren't the Storm hanging round our place when the Brough-Cookie talks were going on?
Now come 'ere you big emotional softy!!

| There's no doubting that Danny Brough is a very talented player. He's been part of some memorable victories and has contributed enormously over the last couple of seasons. Him being a product of the academy makes his and the clubs progression all the sweeter.
However, he's unfortunately got himself into some bother off the field and has to look for the best deal for his family. We've offered him a very generous contract and unfortunately there are better offers elsewhere. The Club could do no more, and have managed to strike it lucky as Huddersfield are desperate to avoid a bidding war come the end of the season when he'd left us for nothing.
We've managed to get Korkidas on a permanent basis along with Kirmond on loan until the end of the season which will probably be funded by Huddersfield or at least a large % will be. We've also managed to get a transfer fee for a player who'll realistically only be missing 20 games. That coupled with Cooke on reduced terms and we'll be fine until the end of the season when no doubt we'll have a big signing lined up.
Do i think we'll be weaker without Brough? Of course we will, but that doesn't mean other players won't step up or that youngsters won't emerge as potential stars. We've brought Cooke in, Davey is improving with every game and Sam Obst is relishing being a pivotal player. That said we've also got young Cain Southerwood who may make an odd appearance. As with every player who leaves you are initially saddened, but someone's loss is another persons gain and we'll continue to improve as a unit as we always do.
Let's draw a line under it and get on with the job in hand!

| On the Wakefield website Brough wants to play in 'big FINALS'
On the Huddersfield website he wants to play in 'big games'.
I would like to think it is now incumbent on the players who are proud to play for Wakefield Trinty Wildcats to
appear in 'big finals' before or at the same time as the now departed Brough.
Hopefully steps are in place to try and prevent players from getting themselves into a financial mess forcing them to seek an alternative employer.( Should they do so, a clause is in the contract which means the club do not lose out in any way.)
History shows that no player is indispensable and while I admired Danny as a player and made allowances for/sometimes admired his 'character', I thank him for his contribution while feeling the club can now go on to further success and growth.

Kirmond is not a fringe player. He would probably have been a starting player for us this season apart from an injury he got last season.
Nathan Brown who knows a bit about players said that part of the reason we fell off towards the end of last season was because of injuries to KEY PLAYERS LIKE DANNY KIRMOND.
You have got a great player for the rest of the season. Injuries permitting although he has been out for 7 months or so.
Give him a couple of games to get into his stride and he will be a star for you.
