| having rea most of the posts on this topic, i have noticed that the cas fans have been particularly vocal at pushing GH at us as the only option, yet no compromise from them - why - because they need us
i have also noticed a certain jitteriness about their posts since oakwell was mentioned as an alternative. does that scare them. yes i think it does
they cant do it without us,or if they can, good luck to them. let them get on with it and go away and debate on their own board how they are going to do it
i for one would certainly go for Barnsley rather than Gh and after the way WMDC (or is it CMDC) hav acted, i would rather take WTW out of the city.
they don't deserve the heritage the club has given them over the years
what was Wakefield known an identified with over the years, a battle in the war of the roses, a top flight rugby league team and a very successful rugby union team, a world record rugby league points scorer, a top hockey team, and have they capitalized on all of these? No, they havent and are letting them dwindle
now what are we famous for, a boozy drunken town, a town with no sporting facilities to speak of,
lets get out of this town before it becomes a ghost town. i personally will get out and take my council tax with me when the opportunity arises
sadly i can see the loss of some potentially fantastic facilities for rugby league and other sports, at newmarket, which would benefit the whole of the district and which would afford the whole area the opportunity to train and play and become a centre of excellence, and be lost because of parochial attides of people who cant see further than their own backyards, at the expense of the common good of all the district

We've been particularly vocal as it is the logical solution out of the two. If it was Newmarket that was in this position and Cas that were behind, I'd be pushing Newmarket.
As for getting "jittery", there's none here. Cas's stadium will go ahead regardless of whether Trinity come or not. It's just that it won't be completed in its entirety for 2012 and will have to be phased.

In that case the best thing both clubs can do is call his bluff and carry on with their own plans.

If thats the case why is the council being allowed to waste money on a feasibility study to see which is the best option and trying to force a groundshare. If the Community Trust are confident in newmarket and you can build GH in phases without taking the parcel of land allocated to the Trust, then we should both just forge ahead with our own plans and tell the council to save their brass.

| Because as the council have said, it would be easier to unite and build one stadium between the both of us - bigger capacity so doesn't need to be expanded in the future and save £20m of taxpayers money in the process.

Why would it if neither club are using tax payers money other than the land as collateral with the money to be repaid in due course

I assumed that the money for all these grants comes from central Gov't somehow and is paid from taxes? Or have I missed the boat?

Not really taxpayers money - I don't know the proposed funding breakdown for newmarket, but suspect some will be lottery type money - some european (possibly) and the Developer is making up the shortfall (unknown quantity) so nowhere near GBP 20m

Well I know that the National Lottery Fund is funded by ticket sales - 28% of revenue plus all unclaimed prizes, according to Wikipedia.

Good question - if all these grants are in place and guaranteed for NM, but the choice of the feasability study is GH then surley they will just transfer over to GH as long as the "Community Facilities " go also.

| simple solution:
as our tigger bretheren are so keen to play at glasshoughton with wakefield council backing, why not merge, play at glasshoughton and call ourselves wakefield trinity - after all, it's the wakefield council that's the deal breaker and main supporter of the proposal - seems fair to me

Clarification is needed. If it's not from taxpayers money, then fair enough, I will apologise and re-adjust my statement.
But anyway, it is still silly spending £20m each on two stadiums when one shared would be more suitable and better and saves £20m in the process.

| This debate has highlighted the whole problem with the proposals. Cas fans side with Glasshoughton because to do otherwise will see them at Newmarket and spell the end of Cas as a top flight club. Wakey fans side with Newmarket because to do otherwise will spell the end of Wakey as a top flight club.
This constant debate as to which is the best development is utterly pointless because everyone has their own clubs interest at heart.
Each side has an advantage. Newmarket is the most viable. Glasshoughton has supporters in powerful places. And right now I'm sick of the whole thing, because I see self-interest in local politics wrecking everything.

=#8000FFNo it isn't because it has a multitude of objectors, including Leeds council, and has a very high chance of being called in for review which would take at least a YEAR to get done.
There really isn't a lot going for Newmarket when you put it in a direct comparison with Glasshoughton.
