KC over the Bouleverd, Central Park over the JJB (for atmosphere only though, the view is far better now, notwithstanding the fact that you could stand wherever you wanted) and we never got to Salfords new ground, so i'll let you know next season.
Warrington is another example, the new place does look a bit Lego like but its an excellent RL ground and certainly an improvement on Wilderspool.
Most of the new grounds are an improvement and we can learn from the likes of Warrington where they have a mix of seating and standing and personally I would rather stand and be able chat to fellow supporters etc, which is difficult in all seater stadia (apart from in the bar)'"
Bigger bars it is then! !! Standing only of course!!!!

| As much as I love the north stand (and the little one on the west terrace) a corrugated cover doesn't negate all our problems, yes we have plenty of temporary food and drink outlets but this doesn't make Belle vue fit for purpose, nor does it help the club in the quest to use it's facilities 6 or 7 days a week. NM is still the way forward.

| In 2 years time, we could be playing out of the best RL facilities in West Yorkshire; who wouldn't want that?
I feel pretty relaxed about the finances - Mr Glover has proven himself a more than able RL administrator and with the involvement of people like Sir Rodders and the potential involvement of some big finanicial hitters, I'm confident that the business plan will stack up.
I'll miss BV, but NM is essential if WTW is to become a force in RL again; and that's aside from the wider benefits to the District.

The local feeling in Castleford is very anti-wakefield district wise. Cas folk consider themselves more nearer to Leeds than Wakey and geographically we are just on the boundary i.e Allerton Bywater has a LS post code. Other than sharing the same local government we have zero in common.

This is the problem in a nutshell, Cas folk don't like being part of the Wakefield district, i don't see that being part of Leeds would be any better.
Cas for independence!!!!!!

An issue many who would force a merger on the two (or three) clubs are unable to grasp. They may as well spilt the district East and West.

| I agree about the atmosphere at the old grounds! the change in atmosphere at Belle Vue since the roofs went on has been astounding.
We'll always speculate about how great Belle Vue would be if we were to renovate rather than relocate, it's the same as speculating about how great the team would be if we hung on to our home produced players.
What if the new stadium was built with some sympathy toward that view, for example, what if there was a seated stand with 8 or 10 rows of terracing in front of it a la the East stand etc best of both worlds.

Interesting viewpoint. Maybe Leeds & Cas should merge......

| Quote ="TRB"Whilst I understand your 'fears', I would reiterate that this has far more to do with delivering a business than anything else. NM offers a facility that will be far better utilised by our own Community groups, Dance teams etc - which all bring in revenue to the club - as well lending themselves out for rental to countless other bodies - even the RFL themselves - for training / corporate and social events. If we are to survive and thrive as a club - without a Sugar Daddy - then we are reliant upon this side of the business to make up the shortfall that ST's and gate receipts just can't provide.
Moving to NM is much more than just 'ticking a box', it is, and always was, envisaged as the total solution to our years of struggling.
This is 'essential', not a 'nice to have'!
Have to agree though - love BV on a sunny day - or a wet day for that matter!

| My problem is that I need to know where we are playing in order that I am able to buy a house within walking distance of ground now that I have a grandchild and return home imminent.
Miraculously my wife agrees to that, especially if it is Newmarket, as we spent 13 happy years in Stanley.

As for the issue of standing - I agree, and I seem to recall that NM has standing areas in the plans?

Thornes Park would have been an excellent option.
At the time there was heaps of resistance because it was "parkland" but there will be something built on the site at some point in the future and if the NIMBY's had ever seen the KC stadium and the leisure facilities at the side of it, then maybe it could have bee a goer. Pretty good access in different directions and only a short walk from the city centre.
The positive for everyone though is that Newmarket will provide more comprehensive facilities and improve the employment situation in Wakefield, which can only be a win/win situation.
How long should we keep the champagne on ice ?

| IMO Thornes Park was never Viable and was never more than a pipe dream to try to satisfy the RL & SL, poor traffic connections, poor parking, middle of a residential area, sounds a bit like BV to me, sorry but from the moment I saw the thornes plan I never thought it would come to fruition, NM if defo the better option, might not be the best one as I still feel the Durkar Jct 39 was the most viable option and we all know who put a stop to that

The first bit is not right. It was a genuine attempt nd would have made an iconic location for a public facility IMO.
What cannot be denied is that we wouldn't have NM if we hadn't had Thornes!

Majesticaly wrong and mis informed on the first bit, but then it's easy to knock things down after the event Thornes was viable and in many ways is still better option than NM and way better than Durkar which has been explained on here many times was never an option - not ever - not even when Ted or Rodney miraculously owned it (which they never did but hey why ruin a good story)
The thing that did for Thornes was an all mighty recession - it's still going on I believe.
No public project as ambitious as Thornes would survive that. Yes there were NIMBY issues and other bit's and bobs not least who actually owned the land but they could be overcome - a total hold on public spending could not. The minute Northern Rock hit the rocks Thornes was over - had Thornes started two years earlier it might just have limped through a bit like Trinity Walk did.
Go on then, tell us who put a stop to Durkar?
However NM is it, last option - year zero so fingers crossed.

I wouldn't of thought that traffic connections would of been a problem as it could of been directed both ways form the ground and would of split at each end of the road making it far easier than it will at Newmarket,
parking now that puzzles me as there would of been more access to walking there than Newmarket so wouldn't of required the same size but could still handle the quantity.
to think that all sports would of been covered in one fantastic complex just baffles me why it never managed to glide through
Durker is very similar to Newmarket
still not be long not eh !!!

| As soon as you leave Lock Lane going towards Allerton Bywater you cannot get away from the fact you are entering Leeds soil due to the Leeds City Council signage - owls coat-of-arms imediately when leaving Castleford. I would love Cas to put a sign the other way (entering Cas Vegas) with a Tiger badge welcoming our loiner friends to the town.
