What's wrong with his boots?

Don't think he is fully fit yet and does not look to be up to SL "speed". Remember he's been playing in Leeds's 2nd team so it will take him time to get back up to SL standard and that can only come with playing. Not a first choice but can kick goals at a pinch.

Think he'll turn out to be a good signing.

For what it's worth, I agree - black boots should be mandatory; all this pink and purple business is just not rugby league.

Who cares what they've got on their feet, as long as they don't slip and slide all over the place like Bambi on Ice I couldn't give a flying ****.

I think it will be a great signing, give him time to get match fit and up to Super league speed, he showed some promise against Uddersfield..

Them there booits are alright on a ponsey back, now if a prop wore them then that would be different, he'd be thrown out of the foorrad's union. Int good old days when men were men and women knew it, a prop with hairy fairy coloured 'shoes' would have to know how to fight in order to be able to wear them. Just like Lazenby with his fore-name

Inside ... With respect to this pink tutu mullarchy: wasn't that part of the Whinos 2nds away kit ( playing weight, of course; couldn't just fling on any old thing) ?
Certainly don't think it would square with either of our ensembles, tho' I concede I'm no Gok Kwan.

Looks good to me. If Mathers does leave, Mellars can play centre with Smith at full back. He is versatile, experienced and capable of being a special player on his day (winning Harry Sutherland award and scoring "that" try against Wigan in the semi final). Good signing for mine.

What a waste of talent his career has proved so far. Maybe at 25 he is ready to put his off-field antics behind him. If he plays to his potential, you have signed an excellent player in his playing prime. I hope the Wakey backroom staff can keep this wildman in check.

What "Off field antic" are these?

As far as I know, he was great, went to RU, didn't work out, came back a bit unfit.
I haven't seen anything in news to say he is a problem child.

Would hardly call him a wildman - but then again surely you have seen him more than I? I would suggest as with a lot of his peers he is very arrogant and thinks he is the dogs nuts

As with a lot of professional sports men and women invariably some of them let themselves down from time to time.... whether its narcissism, going out on the booze, having a scrap, illeagal business ventures, drugs.... or dare I say the worst of all - defecting to RU.

I have no idea what Lee Smiths gremlins / demons are (if any at all), however - he now has the opportunity to get his career (which lets face it was very promising indeed) back and moving in the right direction. He has the opportunity to get properly match fit, play regular SL in a decent if inconsistent team and get some form and confidence behind him. Its now up to him - we've backed him - it's up to him to knuckle down and work hard if he messes up or doesnt deliver what is expected by this time next year I have no doubt he'll be on his way and we will all complain about someone else.

I just hope his coming to us has no link/makeweight to the Amor situation

Excellent centre when fit we will get him fit we wouldn't have attracted this signing a few years ago ! We shouldn't moan.

To be fair to him he has acknowledged on Wildcats web site the need to increase his fitness.

I hope Smith gets his mojo back, but it must start with him getting to full fitness (he's played a part in over half of Leeds' games prior to moving to Wakey, so the lack of SL starts idea doesn't really wash). He's never been that quick and obviously isn't a big player (I passed him and Calderwood when England came to Brisbane under Tony Smith and couldn't believe how small they both were compared to the Broncos and Origin backs I've met), but prior to his union stint he was very good value wherever he played, with a real 'big game' mentality and he obviously has a rugby brain.

The other issue is he himself needs to work out where he wants to play. Personally, I think his lack of size and pace mean its either fullback or where Leeds seemed to be working towards this year, in the halfbacks. I wouldn't start him there this year, but I have a feeling he could make a very good stand off if given the chance.
