| Exemption on non feds doesn't bother me so, exemption from relegation does. Either have relegation or don't. It gets messy when exemptions are introduced. Apparently the RFL rightly wouldn't guarantee Trinity a license when Parkin asked the question a few years back. It should be no different now.

| The exemption from relegation cannot happen IMO. If the RFL agree to this at least one club form the heartlands will suffer. London are trying to dangle a carrot to the RFL promising new investment from the top man at Barnet. If the RFL fall for this stunt we (Tigers and Wakey) might as well step out of the elite competition now.

| To be frank this is the biggest load of B.S. going...I remember watching boots and all months ago and the RFL stated on there that the changes would be firmed up before the end of the season; Well thats gone and pre season is about to start!!!
I think all the clubs should make a stance, insisting changes to the structure of the league should be made for 2015; giving all involved some notice.
Why is there a constant lack of planning/organisation with both clubs and the RFL...I think some should go back to the community clubs (for ideas) as they are far better organised!!

| I totally agree with Slugger - rugby league administrators are lifelong committee men with good intentions, but very little know-how; they are inward looking, parochial and cripplingly old-school. Without a change at the top, the sport in the UK is doomed to limp along as a minority interest in the M1-M62 corridor, and to be an object of derision or at best, disinterest, everywhere else.
Personally, I'd go back to basics; break down the existing paradigm and start from a basis of what's good for the game as a whole, and its consumers; if that means that clubs have to be forced to do some things they don't want to, tough titties.
For example, I too would increase the size of the SL to 16 teams and I'd make it a requirement that the U19's are reinstated with effect from the 2015 season. I would also increase the cap to catch up with inflation (at least) and at the same time, make one marquee player exempt, together with generous allowances for club trained youngsters. I'd also introduce a stricter overseas quota and place an upper limit on the number of games a player can participate in during one season, to force coaches to dip into their squad and give young players an opportunity.
And that's just for starters!

And our club wouldn't be in the mess it's in if we'd had someone like him in charge rather than under qualified chancers like we've had. Still, I bet GH doesn't do the pally pally stuff with supporters some of ours in his position have.

| Whatever happens it seems we have some deep rifts in game.
They need sorting out and not papering over.
This game is in need of forward thinking leaders and the removal of the cosy little gang that is feathering its own bed.

| It sounds like the RFL tried the oldest trick in the committee mans book at their most recent meeting, by tabling a vote on the new structure when several of the clubs who could vote against it were missing; that prompted the walkout that has resulted in Mr Hetherington's outburst in the media.
Given that they'd previously announced that the vote would be postponed until after the RLWC, I'm not surprised that several Chairmen took the drastic measure they did to derail that particular act of desperation.
The RFL board in its current form has lost all credibility - its time for Big Nige and his fellow passengers aboard the Red Hall gravy train to get off at the next stop.

Nowt to do with them who we employ and last time I looked 2 out of 14 votes hardly constituted a power base!
As for the financial help if it is in the form of a repayable loan what's the problem? It's not like the rfl haven't stepped in with bigger financial assistance to other clubs in the recent past.

| It does seem a bit petty when you look at how the Bulls have been helped. I think its more of a case of not wanting Gary Hetherington running the game.

| " Hull FC not happy with the RFL helping Wakefield", thats rich coming from a club who was about to be relegated when the RFL stepped in and allowed them to merge with Gateshead and retain superleague status and money.
Short memories or what.

| We will do as we are told and just follow whatever Leeds want like good little boys. Mind you we are that much in debt to the RFL we have to bend over and take it whether its the best thing long term for us or not. It's pathetic.

How the hell would any of that help your club as an example?
As a Leeds fan I would love to see the cap bigger, and a marquee player exempt, that sort of thing can do nothing but improve Leeds. But how would it help the likes of you, Castelford, London, Widnes?
You would think as a Wakefield fan you would understand the problems of spending something you don't have. To add to that you then propose that the Super League cash pot is extended to a further two teams, thereby reducing the individual clubs slice. Again how the hell does that help the likes of you?
Hetherington has often made decisions and had input into Rugby League schemes that have been to the detriment of hte Rhinos, purely for the good of the game. Such as setting a small salary cap. This guy knows what he is doing, unlike these individuals he speaks against. And I can say that with some confidence, considering Leeds were a bust opertation going down the pan, before he arrived. He didn't just do it at Leeds, look what he did from Sheffield from scratch.
I would suggest that when a guy with those skills starts talking about how we should do things, that people at the very least should have the curtesy to listen.

| I was under the impression that the next discussion was not set to take place until after the World Cup so why would it be brought up at the SL meeting. I guess it was hoped that those in favour would be able to force through the vote and the 6 decided by leaving it was the only way stop it taking place. I am surprised that we have gone along with it because it is not in our self interest but may keep the Hetherington household happy.

It wouldn't at the moment - if you'd read and understood what I said however, you would have noticed that I talked about what was good for the game as a whole.

It wouldn't, as of now - but see the previous point.

Yes I do understand the problems of spending what you don't have, but I also understand that the SC is not compulsory; raising the cap would allow those clubs who can afford to spend it to do so, which seems reasonable to me. As for sharing the money amongst more teams - I guess all clubs would have to work harder to maximise their income streams and meanwhile, my new & improved RFL board could help by, say, getting a sponsor for SL?

I'm sure Mr H is a wonderful man, but this walk-out wasn't really about that; it was about the Chairmen being unhappy that the RFL were attempting to get their stupid new structure ratified by the back door; that was dishonest, disingenuous and sneaky and they were right to refuse to be hoodwinked. I don't know if Mr Hetherington had colluded with the RFL in any way, but I'm glad that it has resulted in what amounts to a vote of no-confidence in the RFL board - I share that lack of confidence.

| 14 sl clubs 1 to get relegated. 1 up from championship but have there season finish 2 month before so they have time to recruit for Super League. If London get relegated they get a good parachute payment for geographical reasons. End of nothing complicated.

Wasn't the problem the RFL had given written assurance to the clubs that the issue would not be discussed until after the world cup. As for your comment re 2 from 14 the vote would have been by 12 clubs St Helens were not present and Bulls didn't have a vote. In actual fact the number of clubs the Hetherington family is involved with is three the Widnes CEO is James Rule a son inlaw.
