| Quote ="RebelRebel"I don't think that's our main problem, tbh. This year's Wigan shirt bears little resemblance to traditional Wigan shirts. They've still sold enough of them though.'"
I don't agree, because they are still cherry and white hoops, albeit after someone has puked cherryade all over it, but still fundamentally cherry and white hoops.
If you go back over the past few seasons, the 2006 and 2010 home shirts were pretty much Trinity shirts (although the colours were a bit iffy on the 2006 one). The 2007 and 2009 shirts were nothing like Trinity shirts. And so even in the last five years, there is no brand identity. If you compare the 2006 and 2010 shirt, and then the Wally Lewis shirt, they are good examples of fundamentally the same design, but all massively different. It doesn't seem that hard to do.

| I think one of the reasons we moved away from the 60s design is because it eventually became a symbol of mediocrity as the fortunes of the club declined. In many ways the guys pulling on the shirt made famous by Fox, Turner etc were, if anything, bringing the brand down. I was glad to see the back of it even if I did love that shirt and the era it represented.
My fav shirt is the one with the chevron, worn at Wembley and reserected during the Brad Davies era. Luckily we don't keep a design long enough these days to let it gain much of a stigma. Also like the blue and red hoops of a season or two back. Looked good on the ladies for some reason...

Not sure I can buy into that as Leeds, both football and rugby, were terrible for years but haven't gone too far away from their traditional shirts. (And yes, I know LUFC only adopted the white shirts when Revie took charge to ape Real Madrid, and the Rhinos had a couple of awful shirts in the mid-90s, as everyone did.) I'd rather us have a traditional looking shirt than some of the awful ones we've had in recent years.
These were so crap, I didn't even buy one in the sale:
And copying the England rah-rah shirt, but worse (and modelled by a 'great' ex-player)?

| Whilst I like this seasons design and have bought both home and away shirts, the quality is rubbish and the badge is not embroidered. The sizing as people are saying are incorrect, not european, I also bought jogging bottoms and had to get two sizes smaller. If next seasons shirts are the same quality I will not be buying any.

| Quote ="kinleycat"Over the years we have had kits that could have been anyone's, there haven't been many that would have been identifiable as Wakefield Trinity.
Add that to no success and the brand identity disappears.
Wigan have been so successful they could have started playing in yellow stripes instead of red hoops and because they for so many years were the face of RL to many would have got away with it because their brand is so strong.
Our situation is this, [uour brand is lying dormant, it wouldn't take much to awaken it in the present set of circumstances[/u.
[uRe launch the traditional shirts, build a stronger team that can start to challenge.[/u
The press for once have done us a bit of a favour, they have done us down and astonishingly we are still here, we have a real Phoenix from the ashes story that we need to start peddling and using the press to promote our story and our brand.
[uWe really need to start work on building a strong identity that the people of Wakefield can get behind, tie it in with the strong image of the past[/u.
This is where the shirts come in, identifying with the potentially massive [uTrinity brand[/u, it's simple and it's the first step.'"
Thats exactly how the club should view the next shirt released, we should go back to our history and then take huge steps into the future.

We might want to retain the wildcats for marketing purposes but if we want to rebuild the brand and the link with the city then the fleur de lys should be on there as well. People have referred ro the the wigan shirt which has the town coat of arms. Don't know offhand which othe clubs have them but it would be good to re-establish Wakefield as a rugby league town

| I'm lead to believe that what Snowie said is correct regarding the new emblem being on the next shirt, which is a good move.
Also the club have heard all the comments regarding quality, a wider variety of sizes, greater level of choice etc.
Expect better from our merchandising in the future.

Too true.
I was dropping my son of at school the a few weeks ago and had a Trinity T-shirt on with the Wildcat logo. This was just after Daddy Cool had been into school getting them ready for the big dance class thing against Hull.
All the kids were flocking around pointing at the Wildcat on my T-shirt and getting very excited about "Daddy Cool". The Wildcats thing is definitely a good marketing tool as far as kids are concerned and must stay, BUT the word TRINITY is equally as important and must not be dropped either.

Having started this thread it's pleasing to see that many agree with my thoughts and see the resurrection of the famous shirt as a direct link, not just with the past but aspirations for the future.
I'm sure it wouldn't be simply plain white with red and blue bands the inevitable insignia would have to be on but the shirts would be instantly recognisable as Wakefield Trinity.
Here's hoping.......

My son who is 21 months old sees the Wildcats badge on any shirt and says "Whats that?" so you say to him "Wildcats" so he roars like a wildcat....kids of any age identify with the Wildcats badge aslong at it says Wakefield Trinity underneath I think the new badge is a good compromise...

| The problem is the media forget to say or print the word TRINITY and 99 % time its dropped completely...its our heritage go out of the heartlands and no one knows who the hell Wildcats are say Trinity and its a different story.
I am not saying get rid completely i agree for marketing and kids, Daddy Cool etc its a no brainer im talking about on the shirt it should be your town crest..

| Keep Wildats as the nickname, I hate the name but it looks like we're stuck with it, but insist the clubs name as reported in the media is Wakefield Trinity. Also produce more stuff with the original badge. This way the club can target both Trinity fans and Wildcat fans without disregarding either group.

Correct.
We are Wakefield Trinity. Our nickname (artificial as it is) is "The Wildcats". Put the city coat of arms on one side of the shirt at the front with the cartoon cat and "The Wildcats" on the other side. We could even be cheeky and use the motto of the [iDistrict[/i - "Persevere and Prosper" seems especially apt for us! We should always be referred to officially as "Trinity" with "Wildcats" being used as the nickname (Like Arsenal are the Gunners but not "Arsenal Gunners"icon_wink.gif. That way we capitalise on the the link with the city, suggest that we are also the club for the whole district(!!!) and can still use Daddy Cool and all the wildcats stuff for marketing. Simples!
