Well decided to go along at the last minute but It was a very poor display I thought. The starting 13 was a reasonable team and was out played in every department.

There has been a lot of discussion about getting another hooker. There was a bloke on the field for fev who I thought had a great game and he's one of our own grown, Mattie Wildie.

A few but a few played aswell well played Fev

Well, the lose at Fev means as much as the wins at Leeds and Dewsbury, and against Cas.

The result doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things but the performance was a little concerning. Yes we weren't at full strength but we had plenty of our first team squad playing a lot of minutes and i'd have expected a bit better that what we saw. Still better to get it out of the way now and credit to Fev on their performance.

I'd rather 70% effort and no injuries during pre-season, than 100% effort and picking up injuries

Score really flattered Wakefield. Fev were sharp and very entertaining. Plenty of enthusiasm.
With the exception of Huby and possibly Mazive the Wakefield team couldn't be d and just took it in turns to fumble and give cheap penalties away. BJB and Gibson had real defensive shockers.
Miller had no positive contribution whatsoever. His last pass of the game reminded me of a bride throwing her corsage over her head.
Tupou and Lyne must've loved it though.
Very tough 80 minutes to watch for the travelling fans.

Talking to a mate after the game and I agree with what he said which was Fev treated it as a league game as Wakey seemed to treat it as the friendly it was, if that sounds right

I hope Fev will be up there, hopefully above KR, well done Fev.

Dont think anyone in the Championship will be above KR but, I like Fev and I hope they are up there at the end of the season (obviously we dont want to play them again, apart from in the cup)

I didn't go today... So others who were there will know better than I!
But I listened to John Kears and Chris Chesters interviews during the week...Kear talked about the (what ifs) and try this and Chester talked about how he had already picked his first 13 and the last places would be up for grabs... I might be wrong but I think the players will also know who is going to start on the 12th..
Friendlies are there to ask questions of players as well as answering questions about players! The 12th will show us how good wehave been this off season..

Mostly agree Vasty except that I believe Friendlies will mean something to the coaching staff. I only have two main worries one is the lack of a hooker ( agree that Wood looked good against Cas ) and two the teams lack of consistency when it comes to effort. Some weeks we look like we want to defend and take pride in defending other weeks it looks like we just can not be bothered. Would a Rocky Turner / Shawn Wane style i.e. putting the fear of god into the players help ?

Equally on today's and last weeks first half showing there's nothing for them to fear us. Belly raises an interesting point with regards to consistency in effort in defence.

They do seem to be inconsistent in defence, but I'd rather they took it easy in meaningless friendlies than risk injury by going in for a tough tackle

Exactly and that's why you cannot judge a team on the result of friendly games. The same amount of commitment as shown in a league game simply isn't there. I've seen too many in the past to even bother going to them now. As far as I'm concerned they're extended training sessions. Nice to win but who cares really?

We played our first choice 1-7 for the first half, but only 1 of our starting pack. Then in the second half, i knew more of the Toronto players than i did the FC players. Hardly representative of what you will see at Belle Vue in a few weeks

The result of a friendly doesn't really matter and the early games are bound to have some blowing, but we should be getting better and fine tuning through the later friendlies. The defense issues are in part to effort but in part to co-ordination.
I'd like to see the first choice back line against Sheffield so they have time to get it right under pressure (I'm sure they are doing it at training too)

Please tell us which of our first choice 1-5 played against Fev and Dewsbury.
BJB may feature but, he wont be playing FB, apart from that, it was our second string.



Lyne & Toupu will be just fine at centre and probably Johnstone and BJB on the wing plus, Grix at FB and it was a long way from that option yesterday.
