| [list[/list:u Quote ="charlie63wildcat"This is probably old news to most of you but I was just pondering on how on earth Leigh managed to get the Sports Village going, so the usual Wikipedia consultation was made. Wigan Council...owners of the ground and complex. One tries to remain positive but the contrast to our situation and wonderful Council really is a bit depressing to say the least'"
It was a monumental effort by a hand full of people who care about Leighs half of Wigan Borough
Leigh East giving up their home which freed up a lot of land which is now a £50millon mental health unit.
Leigh harriers sold their home to a house building company and moved to the lsv site
Acres of land on the lsv site sold to barretswho have built hundreds of houses and flats.
Sport England money
Education money
Health money
I think the sale of Barla land was part of it

| Forgive me for being a bit thick here but i have been reading various threads and other articles from the web and i just don't get what MC thinks he is going to achieve by taking the club out of the WMDC area.
I read a interview of Longo at fev and he says that MC thinks a move to fev would weaken our position, but he doesn't see that being the case and to be honest neither do i.
So basically can anyone on here tell me what MC is hoping to achieve, does he think if we go to Dewsbury Wakefield council will turn round and say please don't go here's 15m get yourself a new ground, because I don't, i just think they will be glad to be shut of us.
Answers on a postcard please haha.

Maybe he thinks sharing a ground outside Wakefield will soften the blow when he sells the Franchise to Toronto for a paltry 2 million ? Just a thought.

Thanks for that JC. Who are the people you refer to, in particular their jobs. I am interested in just how the mechanics of that worked. We probably have all those components in Wakefield and, from what I have read on here, a Trust working it's cahunas off, some of whom maybe rolling their eyes at my questions, but I'm afraid I am not in their loop and am pig sick of the indifference/ deliberate derailing of our project by our local authority, whichever it is. It is monumentally frustrating to visit LSV and se how it could be, not only or Rugby League in Wakefield but for the entire community and other sports. If I could transplant a project that would be it. A nearby park and countryside, other sports, a supermarket a pub and hotel. The entire community benefits from that area and it angers me that the quality of life of people in our city takes 2nd place to a massive shoe box at Newmarket in our area. I would love to see how the events unfolded in Leigh and who/ how people were brought together to do that. Forgive me Trustees, I am sure you've probably been here but I don't like sitting by anymore. Is there anything we can take from this?

Amongst others, Andy Burnham (MP) & ex copper Trevor Barton (MBE)
The run down on wiki doesn't do these people justice, the project was years in the making before concrete was finally being poured.Give Trevor a quick email to see if he can give you a link to the early days of the project.

| Yesterday afternoon I was speaking with my neighbour, and he was asking me about the tennis courts and crazy golf in the park and it closing.
We then also started talking about golf club, Wakefield Trinity and the state of the city in general.
He is foreign but has lived and worked in Wakefield for 25 years and has seen how the city has ran into decline.
He said he couldnt believe the severity of some of the cost cuts, especially when he was saying that Box is rumoured to be on £400k per year, and that some cleaners working for the counncil were on £28k per year and were relatives.
One thing he did say on top of this, was how corrupt they were and that they need reporting, to Whitehall. He has actually tried to make a complaint, but found Peter Box extremely rude.
Dont know if anyone has done this at all, or whether it is worth doing, not just for our stadium, but for the good of our city.

In all fairness to Box he is on nothing like that. His official council wage is on the website and he has a lot of other perks which can't easily be found out about. He also probably draws a wage for being chair of the combined authorities. I seem to think his basic WMDC wage is around £50K.
However he still draws a decent income for delivering a very poor service to the public of Wakefield. In my opinion its not money that drives the man it is power he thrives on and when you get to see the real box he is a bully, every labour councillor is scared stiff of him and none of them have the guts to challenge a single thing he demands.

The Chief Exec of WMDC (Joanne Rooney) earned £175,000 in 2015, so I think £50,000 for the council leader could be a little under the mark ??

Check it out yourself if you don't believe me. Remember the CEO is a paid officer where Box is only an elected councillor.
All the council wages are on the website, they then get a bonus if they get on the cabinet and Box gets a further bonus for being the leader. His wage is no where near as much as the CEO.

| Funny someone should mention Harriers.
I walked theough the park earlier today and just cant quite help thinking back to when we were hoping to move into the park. I can't quite remember in the plans just exactly our ground would have been located.
As I past the running track, gym and skateboard park, couldnt help but notice the amount of area that part of the park holds. Couldnt help but think couldnt this be developed to incorporate us and Wakefield Harriers.

| I've just driven past Dewsbury's ground so i decided to pop in for a look as I've not been for a couple of years.
WOW
They have created something special there now, they have extended the standing area behind the sticks and look to have built new ticket offices there. They have a small 4G pitch set up for 2 lots of 5-a-side at a time, and a full size area which looks like it will be set up as a permanent 4G rugby pitch. They have tons of parking and what looks like ample space for further future development. They really have got it right for a small club. I always felt it was one of the better stadiums in the championship, but with the addition of these extra facilities they really are punching above their weight! Hopefully one day, we could have something similar to what they have

| Yes Eastern Wildcat, after my post and chat with j.c the Leigh fan, the similarity between that and the set up at LSV struck me. However, today's news re MC and the Newmarket situation is, dare I say it after so many false dawns, cautiously encouraging, so if Newmarket rises like Lazarus from the dead, then 3 cheers for that
