I'd give up if I were you mate, you clearly know nothing about the stadium (or construction industry) if you think that any company would come out proclaiming where all the money has come from is actually laughable, the money is there - hence the silence and targets put out in PUBLIC today. Of course he would. There is no better route out of the situation from his point of view.
"We got the land, had designs drawn up, but because of a lack of support and interest from the WMDC and other local sporting clubs we cannot afford to build it, coupled with the economic downturn...."
Including the existing planning application, designs and land contracts I bet no more than £100,000 has been spent on the stadium to date. The land clearance would have been done by Waystones anyway, choose what got built. That princely sum isn't bad when you think how long it's kept RW in work. That could "blag" you 6 years in SL so I think Cas fans should be careful when pointing the finger regarding Thornes Park and how we played smoke and mirrors to enable us to get a franchise.
People in Glasshoughton shouldn't throw stones!'"
clutching and straws spring to mind,i can just imagine you are wiping away tears has you are typing trying to convince yourself its all lies and it cannot happen.
why do you think wakefield wouldnt go with the feasability study ?
because they were always behind the glasshoughton project and they new they would come a poor second.
why are wakefield the only club to have a back up plan with a move to barnsley the only option ?
again anyone with an ounce of brain can see that leeds council will send it to a public enquiry which will put months if not years on any possible build.
so dont say im deluded when you have far more worries surrounding newmarket "which i hope gets built for the sake of rugby league in the wakefield district" wakefield without any shadow of doubts best hope of a new franchise is salford and castleford failing and that is all you are clinging onto.

| We're all getting too eager on this. Let's just take a breather and take a few steps back before making comments that might come back to bite us on the bum.
I've always had faith it will happen but I won't believe it until I see the steel in the ground and SWC praying to the Gods.
The Wakey fans will be cynical of our stadium plans just like we will be of theirs. But no use fighting over it really. There's not much we can do as fans.

What he means is by Leeds City Council objecting the plan along with the action group the local villages this will force the plans to go to public enquiry.

| No it won't.
Any group wishing to speak at the planning meeting (including the club, SWAG and the trust) will only be allocated 3 minutes to put forward their case.
We can show clear evidence for the improvement in the road network, further economic stability for the region and widespread social improvement brought to the area by this scheme.
I can already imagine the NIMBY's trying to get their 3 mins worth!
"Eh.... eh... TREE'S!.......ehh..eh Walk my dog.....eh..traffic!...(10 seconds left...better tell the truth!!)...eh..eh..eh...I don't want it because I'm a Cas fan!!!"
If you knew how little local opposition could ACTUALLY do I don't think you would make claims about the all powerful LCC.
Don't forget while we maybe under the boot of LCC, you however are under the boot of WMDC- know your place!!!!

Firstly, an objection from a neighbouring local authority (if indeed you could say that is what Leeds City Council have done, strictly speaking they haven't IMO) or objections from a handful of local residents is not going to simply 'force' the secretary of states office into a public enquiry. They will look at the context and strength of the arguments presented and, as I have said before, they strength of the arguments coming from the people that are currently opposing Newmarket is weak with the only real valid argument being the current Green Belt designation of the site. However, as we know that Wakefield already have legal requirement to find an additional 95 hectares of commercial development land along the M62 corridor under the LDF review, the current Newmarket site goes along way to providing a reasonably large amount of that requirement. As the majority of that 95 hectares, wherever it ends up, will most probably have to be taken from currently designated Green Belt somewhere, the argument will be if not here on an old reclaimed pit site, where else? The potential impact of the Newmarket Development is low and only will directly effect a very small number of residents (despite what they have been very good at trying to convince people is otherwise). Another site, might not have that advantage!
It should also be remembered that ultimately, the decision as to whether it does get given a public enquiry comes down to politicians. The chances of this project ever seeing a public enquiry IMO are slim and are getting slimmer all the time under the new coalition government. They have cut the BSF programme and that has hit the Yorkshire construction industry hard and growth forecasts have been substantially cut, with unemployment set to rise well into next year and possibly beyond do you really think that this government will send this to public enquiry to save a handful of votes in both a reasonably secure Labour seat and very secure authority in Wakefield, a new Labour controlled council in Leeds (and leader, in Councillor Wakefield) and a very sercure Tory seat in Elmet & Rothwell?
You can never really predict these things and I could be wrong, and it could end up in a public enquiry... but somehow I doubt it!

As I am totally ignorant about the New ground for Cas and as such I would not dream of going on your board and discussing it, but it is the Wakey board after all and you seem to be inviting comments. Theres a couple or three things that dont sit right with your post.
1 I might be wrong but wasnt it Wakey council who wanted to pay for a feasibility study but according to you its Cas what have paid for it. 2 it was reported by your club that you had paid £150K for the architects, fair enough cannot argue there except to say where are these plans and have you made your mind up yet whether its going to be a 12 or a 15K because its not two minutes since you did not have the funding, apparently you have now found it from somewhere so presumably you can now tell us how big its going to be. 3 Not sure but I am willing to bet a shilling of my hard earned dosh that Cas did not pay one penny towards the earth being shifted from GH, irrespective of who moves in there the land would have had to be levelled and made ready to build on. So out of that £275K it would seem that Cas at best have only spent £150K thats assuming Mr Wright is telling the truth and not playing ducks and drakes with you. As for your bottom paragraph I just cannot be @rsed to reply to it, personally I hope and I would imagine so would most other Wakey fans that its good news for you tonight when Mr Wright makes his announcement regarding the stadium, and that he is not just using the fact that Sky are in town to try and paint a picture which isnt strictly true, a bit like you really

In case you're interested the club made this statement last night:-
"The designs for the new stadium, in advance of a detailed planning submission in October, showcase a 13,300 capacity stadium at Glasshoughton on Junction 32 of the M62.
Whilst the majority of the stadium capacity will be seating, in response to views given by the clubs supporters the new stadium will also incorporate a large section for standing. It will also feature increased hospitality and conferencing facilities.
Construction of the new stadium is due to commence in Spring of next year with the base for the pitch to be in place by May 2011. This is in order for the pitch to be ready for the start of the 2012 Super League season."

That is very good news both for the club and the fans, well done, with regards to my previous post it was in reply to the rather tiresome willy measuring contest frequently brought to life on here by old gasbag and one or two others, no offence intended regarding the Cas ground in my previous post.

None taken mate. Don't think many Cas fans will be taking the announcement as gospel and that's why I posted it without comment....simply to add an update to the thread.

| Anybody else see Tricky Dicky being interviewed on Look North this lunchtime with his drawings of the GH?
He was asked directly "Do you have the money to build it?" to which he replied "We have a very strong business plan"
He was then asked where the money was coming from and looking very uncomfortable started waffling about money from current ground, council, Waystone, land assets and fund raising by the fans.
What a load of cobblers!!!

I assume he will be on again on tonight Look North, will watch it before heading over to Cas.
I am going to get there early and try and have a nosey at the plans, just out of professional curiosity mainly.

Sorry love, but in business discussing business matters in the public doesn't sit well with some companies, especially when they're silent partners/haven't announced it themselves yet, or in 1 case, the deal isn't 100% signed off yet, so to go on the news and start spouting off company names would be suicide, the right people know the money is there and that's all that matters.

I wouldn't be, like I said on the Cas board, barring any unforeseen circumstances (planning/weather) it's all plain sailing from here now
Also, if you've seen interviews with RW before, he always looks slightly uneasy, that's probably the fact there's a camera stuck right in his face.

Ok .. if you say so love
Francis Stephenson was also on the feature, looking very comfortable considering he had a camera in his face, stating that Newmarket had all funding in place.

| Seen the report on look north, stadium plans don't look bad with standing along on 1 side abit like Warringtons, regarding funding thats cas problem but he didn't seem that sure himself (fans fund raising events), the reporter pressed him twice on funding so he might have been a bit nervous. I thought Franny spoke well in the Wakefield report and didn't hesitate on the funding issue.

| That's because there is no funding issue with Newmarket.
Largely down to the efforts of Uncle Rodney.
Unless these "fans fund-raising events" have already happened the money is still to be raised, ergo there is still a shortfall.
For fans to bridge the gap he would have to be honest and tell them an amount they needed- this would require honesty on his part and I doubt he has an honest bone in his body!
For their effort fans would at least want to see the records he and Fulton with hold- to know such elementary details such as how much WR was sold for..
IMO that man can't even lay down straight.
Could you imagine a situation where WT were so hostile to SWAG? Unless there was something to hide. A theory which has been banded around the other Cas forum by a current shareholder.

| Talking of seeing plans unveiled, we all got treated to this image when we received our Season Ticket renewal brochures in the post this morning.
Firstly, the pitch looks great, Wakey must be selling the Belle Vue pitch to Leeds when they move to Newmarket!
You can see the umbrella's (which are for the sun beds) in the existing South Stand car park, well just out of shot is a new outdoor swimming pool with a wave machine... a mini surfworld apparently!
