Couldn't understand why the referee put Hull KR on a "team warning" and then penalised them two minutes later with no consequence.

I disagree with them being far too negative. The weather was atrocious and underfoot conditions too difficult to play attractive Rugby. What we were, as ever when in tight games at critical moments, was dumb. I have lost count now, the number of games we have lost in the past few years from not taking 2 points at the right time. Today EVERY TIME was the right time to take 2. I couldn't see either side scoring a try unless there was a good kick or a mistake. In the end it was a good kick AND a mistake that cost us but, for me we were very foolish not to take 2 when 4-2 up. We would have gone 6-2 up. They scored from the resulting play up field to make it 4-4. Without that passage of play, we would have gone 8-2 with the next pen and I really don't think Rovers would have recovered from that. Scoreboard pressure would probably have led to mistakes from them and at least another 2 pointer for us.
Outside of that, we really missed Ashurst and you could tell. The kicks to touch were the right tactic to try to force errors in good field positions.
So that's St Helens possibly thrown away by a dumb decision to GO for goal when we should have gone to the corner with a kick and today DEFINITELY thrown away by not going for 2 at 4-2. When on earth are we going to learn?

I agree with you. We have, for years, been a good weather side. On Tom's disallowed try, he was convinced he had scored by the look of his remonstrations with the Touch Judge after the hooter. I'd have like to have seen that on a video ref call. Given the number of incorrect try decisions in the last few weeks on Sky games, I would not be surprised if it was a try
For me, we lost because we were once again stupid when offered 2 in trying conditions and also we did not put good kicks in on the 6th near their line; how often have we also said that in the last few years? I thought we'd have cured that when we got Broughy back but we were poor today

Are you serious? We were superb v Leeds and pretty good v St Helens. To make judgements on attacking play today, I think is very unfair in such conditions

I did park run yesterday morning and I can tell you, running into a gale force wind with hail and rain is bloody hard. The conditions frustratingly bucked up a bit for them when it was their turn. I think it unfair to criticise attacking play except maybe for the quality of attacking kicks. Not taking 2 again is what it boiled down to for me

Not being negative Charlie, just being realistic about assessing the first 5 games. Undeniably we’ve beaten two very poor misfiring teams and lost two games we all think we should have won while we would also have fancied ourselves at home to Sts.

Against Sts and HKR we’ve looked absolutely clueless when attacking the line.

I think many people posting are really underestimating how hard it is to play in conditions like that. Both sides struggled equally. They used a bit more nous when it mattered and that was the difference

That’s sport win some lose some decisions if and buts. If that was given we’d be saying it was a hard fought win.

that needs questioning when a team warning is given why not a sin bin given, having said that I doubt the result would of been any different.

when you have a player of TJ capabilities you play to them not isolate him from the game

That was my take on it as well. His foot Just slid onto the line.

We lost far too much ground advantage by standing and letting them run at us at each play the ball giving them at least ten metres every time. This is an old Trinity failing that I thought we had eradicated from our game. I counted at least two occasions when HKR went the full length of the pitch in a single set. also standing in an offside position at the ptb restricted our progress far too much.

I agree with those earlier posters; failing to go for the two points contributed to our downfall. It was obvious at the beginning that tries were going to be at a premium in those conditions.

The offside was laughable.
So laughable in fact that when the touch judge told Hall to get on side he went backwards and forwards laughing about it. Why would he care. No penalty and it was slowing us down.

But equally, on their line, we didn't put one kick in the box behind to go for a repeat set or score from the Batch move.
We seemed to rush things when they were on us rather than taking a breath.
Need to learn from that but I'd expect Broughy to already know.

The leeds win and catlans win now mean nothing really.

I think that was about the Rovers winning try, because it looked like the Rovers player knocked it into TJ. He was staring at the touch judge in disbelief when it was given.

I think we lost on tactics and adaptability today.
We should be able to handle a team going off side.

They played well and any team with Drinkwater and McGuire steering them around are going to be difficult to beat.
They realised how the game was going and reacted accordingly. We did not.

I didn't see anyone not putting effort in. Only people making wrong decisions.
That needs to be put right but it can be put right.

I'm pretty sure our season is not over yet.

Seen some cracking games over the years in far worse conditions than today and from so called part time players.Typical English spring weather and not an excuse to play like we’ve never seen rain before .
Still don’t move up to meet attacking players and still players stood receiving the ball, I’m no coach but I thought these were the basics no matter what the weather was doing.
Having said all this we”ll go to hull and give it to em ,because we are wakey and that’s how we roll .

Maguire spent 10 in the bin and they matched us , certain players need to give themselves a good shake.

We always slip-up when we believe our own publicity. We are a much better side when we're the underdog with something to prove. I've lost count of the two-steps forward, one-step back over the years.

But I'd rather be a Wakey fan than a Wigan or a Leeds fan right now.
