What's the status of the LDF announcement? Anybody know?

The LDF is effectively known as there were no significant changes at the last opportunity to make them. Not sure exactly when the official news will come through, but not long now and should be before the PI!

Less than 3 weeks to go!

Whats the process for announcing the decision by the SOS?

Who will be given the info first?
Is it on a website?
Do they send a postcard to WMDC?
Or does Eric Pickles just text Peter Box?

I would suspect that they would inform WMDC as it is their case. It will go on the planning portal at some stage - but I imagine that the word will get out from somewhere before then. We are trying to get a meeting with the council before then so we may find a little more out at that!

I have checked, because I was not up to date with being on Holiday till recently.

This what the Inspector (Shelagh Bussey) said in her note of 11th May -

The 'following amendments' noted did not include any changes to Newmarket!

She then issued a further note on the 17th May -

I have read of all of the comments received on the recent changes to national planning policy referred to above. However, they do not raise any entirely new matters that have not been previously discussed at hearing sessions. Therefore, it will not be necessary to discuss them at a further hearing session. The hearing session that was provisionally scheduled for 24 May 2012 is therefore cancelled.

I am not inviting any further written comments in connection with these or any other matters relating to the examination of the Sites Plan. However, I thank everyone who has made written and/or oral contributions throughout the examination process. These have added significantly to the suggestions for main and additional modifications to the Sites Plan.

I am glad you asked the question which prompted me to go look for an update!

I think when it comes to the LDF then it is looking like this is game over and Newmarket looks set to come out of Greenbelt in her final report. I really can she the inspector suddenly, out of left-field, suggesting that Wakefield select another site in place of Newmarket. Technically, as I understand it, she could do this but if you look at the evidence it would appear that is highly unlikely, especially as some housing sites were taken out at this modification stage and if she/WMDC were uncomfortable with this site, it would have been changed already IMO! It was clear to me, as a participant at the hearings, that she was not convinced that any alternative sites were better than Newmarket, which of course we always contended was clearly the case!

So, the fat lady appears to be warming up her vocal cords if not quite singing... just yet!

I seem to remember that WMDC were expecting her final report within a 2 week period after the 24th May hearings. As these hearings didn't actually happen then it is conceivable that her final report could be issued at any time now!

So with the belief that the LDF & Newmarket decision were intertwined, now that the hearing issn't needed and her report issued earlier is the likelihood of a decision on NM being made BEFORE the 19th June increased?

Quite possibly, but I suspect when her report goes public, they will need a few days to dot i's and cross t's so I would expect a decision to follow on soon afterwards! Of course, we are expecting her report very soon but it has not landed yet!

I still think 18th/19th June will be day we find out, not much sooner IMO.

Cheers for that. Shame could have done with it sorting before I go away on the 17th!

Kind of lost touch a little bit with the goings on there. I know the council are trying damned hard to give them a leg up to try and keep the clubs on something of an even keel - but of the two, NM is now the clearest route and it will be interesting to see things play out following the announcemnt.

I suspect that the spin war will continue until the foundations are being poured - and then a bit more.

I should note that I have stated all along that my vision of the future includes both clubs playing in separate new stadiums and that I would love our 'derbies' to be bigger and better as a result!
