| Quote ="vastman"Interesting post.
I can’t honestly see any huge issues with the build to be honest.
The East stand offers no issues as far as I can see, it’s a flat surface with brilliant access. It’s a relatively small stand of a type that’s been built elsewhere umpteen times. It’s as close to off the shelf as you can find.
The North stand is more likely to throw up issue. We think we know what’s under there but you can’t be sure until you start. We know some of it is potentially toxic but you’d assume that’s been taken into account and is probably the reason it wasn’t flattened and replaced. All the same in it’s way the North stand will be transformed, it’s already the most popular part of the ground and now it will be more than fit for the purpose. I’ll no longer be embarrassed to take people on it.
This year on the pitch?
Let’s hope WP is a lucky coach. He has a potentially good team there but not much depth. By depth I don’t mean quality I mean resilience. If we lose a lot of experienced players we could be in bother but I suppose that applies to most teams. What Poching needs is for players like Fifita, TJ and Mason or a few others to hit real form and stay fit. That happens and the rest will follow.
That’s where it all went wrong for CC, for three seasons he got total value from his players then for a million reasons he didn’t. Poching avoids that this season we will do fine.
One final plea. Can we please take the CCup seriously for once. I know it’s a risk if you’re in the bottom part of the table but if by quarter final time we are reasonably safe then let’s go for it. This is by far the easiest route back into the hearts and minds of the Wakefield public and thus fresh supporters. I may be wrong but since 2008 we have been lacklustre to say the least as I think 2016 was a bit of a freak.
Anyway who knows, I’ll just be there shouting support.
So with two sec'"
It is a relatively simple build so hopefully it goes with out issue and the club will have a design and build contract in place.
Generally a lot of main contractors won’t touch stadia as they are viewed as high risk schemes and do have a history of haemorrhaging money.
I’m a little surprised the contractor who is doing it has taken it on as a lot of the directors have had bad experiences with stadia in the past all be it at another company and we’re adamant they wouldn’t touch one again.
Hopefully the risk has been factored out and it goes smoothly.

I’m a bit of a stadium nerd as you know. However it’s all about factors.
1. The stand is as I say relatively small, so none of the steelwork will be specially made, should all be stock. The bigger you go the more difficult it gets as you probably know and this stand I’d really quite modest.
2. It’s stand alone so no nasty joints to other structures, often a killer problem.
3. Demolition of previous structure should be easy as it’s a hugely primitive structure, wouldn’t be surprised if it had no foundations.
4. Access is superb and site is flat.
5. I’d suggest they took it on because 12 million is a top mark price with plenty of wiggle room. I’d suggest it’s 20% above standard cost and double what it would have cost 5 years ago.
Can’t see any fear of an overspend or any serious delays. Helps that essentially it has council backing all be it on a third party level. I reckon most developers would see it as a fair bet.

| As we found out at the tail end of last season barring a hiccup, the players seem to want to play for poaching and he seems to have connected with the players which is always a good start . Carry on from where we left off I say and we’ll certainly raise a few eyebrows with our style of play .Miller and Lino are going to be a force to be reckoned with if we can keep them both on the field .Thought we always went well with two quality hookers on the field ,so be interesting to see how Willie plays hood ,and who will partner him if anyone . For me Willie has breathed some fresh air into the squad/club which had gone stale the last year or so ,and whilst Chester had done an admirable job on a tight budget IMO he overstayed his welcome ,and it’s great to have some fresh impetus and ideas in the coaching department . We are solid up front ,got a great back line ,I feel we are in a good place player wise as long as we can keep the majority of them on the field ,we are good to go and up for the fight ,mid table everyday of the week for me .

Even without injuries, hooker is the position that concerns me most. Hood is obviously first choice, personally I think Walker is the best interchange option.

Thought Bowes was the star of the youngsters, he could easily do a few stints.
Personally think Kay is better than Walker and is a hooker all day long.

I agree. I think we are well stocked at 9.
Hood
Kaye
Walker/Bowes
Poching (in emergency)
To me seems like good depth. Bowes stood up well on Boxing Day and all though he’s not ready to start he proved he can come off the bench and do a decent job of needed imo.
I’m more worried about halfbacks.
Lino and miller I think will be great but other than Gaskell there’s not much quality back up. Suppose if needed some young lad would get their shot.

Not much quality anywhere in that position. I really don’t know what’s gone wrong, I can’t even think of a championship HB worth a punt at the moment.
There may be some talent available on loan from one of the top clubs I don’t know.

Wigan seem to have a lot of options on the halves and I can’t see all 4 front line halves being able to be kept happy for too long unless they pick up an injury.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see Harry Smith become available (who had a stinker of a year last year in truth, but there is a very talented lad there).
I think Leeds may be looking to give Sinfield some game time too but think he may end up at Bradford.
In fairness we would have to be unlucky to have 2 out of 3 front line halves pull up at the same time for any length of time and I think Hood and Walker could fill in there for the odd week before we had to seriously look at bringing in another specialist half.

Crazy isn’t it, Harry Smith was seen as the new George Williams. Potentially too much pressure on him at Wigan? Who knows but class is permanent and the lad can certainly play.

Who’s our U19 HB’s? I know Abrahams plays six and looks classy but he doesn’t look like an out and out playmaker. Thought Butterworth was a HB but I’m not sure?

Robbie Butterworth played fullback for us on Boxing Day and has been at 7 in the 19’s. Charlie Abraham is in the reserves next year and hopefully will get a full time contract, got a lot of potential.

| Like most on here, it's cautious optimism.
Off-field, cautiously optimistic that everything will go as planned. It is bound to increase the attendance. It won't decrease it. The biggest risk is that people have got out of the game habit during Covid. That is the biggest problem for the game as a whole, in my view, the next year. If it comes off though, with increased attendances, improved sponsorship, and the ability to increase income streams outside of game-day, it's an absolute game-changer. Financially, we could be in a better shape than most other clubs, with many as mere tenants with rents to pay.
We have to stay in Super League though, so on-field is the big thing, and I'm hopeful we'll do okay. Sezer will be a loss to Huddersfield and I think Salford may struggle again. Toulouse may get a few wins at home but perhaps away from home they'll struggle.
Onwards and upwards, in my view.

I’m personally of the opinion the best chance Abrahams has at securing a place as a SL regular will be if he focusses on being a 13.

On paper it’s a pretty good squad particularly in the backs. I think they lack a bit of toughness in the Props and quality at 9.
Mossop and Brown have been huge players for them and could be big misses.
The main unknown/risk about Salford is their coach. I personally think he has been an embarrassing professional coach in his previous stints basically relying on bully boy tactics and when they didn’t work he had no plan b.
If he he has learned from that they could go well, if he hasn’t and he is expecting his pack to bash opposition teams up i think they could struggle.
Plenty of know how in his halves but without a platform they could be wasted. They have plenty of impact in the pack but I’m not sure it’s long minutes impact. They to meet are lads that come on catch the eye for 10 minutes then tend to go missing because they are shattered.

We will have to differ on this one. This is part of the problem, we need to stop this desire to turn every potential HB into a 13 or a 9 just because they are not quite there yet. Where does it stop, it’s like nobody ever gets a chance.
I’ve not seen as much under 19s as some but he immediately caught my eye, he’s a S/O all day long in my opinion, 13 would be a waste.

I think he lacks the natural pace to be a half.
He though has the frame to be a ball playing loose which as we have seen at Wakefield recently can be a real asset to a team in a division dominated by props running at 13.
Personally think a ball handing 13 is arguably the most important position on the field if you have a good one.
