I was fairly shocked that we'd gone through 14 number 1s in 23 years, but it's clear that many more players have actually played there during that time.

A symptom of a successful side is stability and I think under the current management we're heading in the right direction.
I noticed that through the 60s we had a much slower turnover of heritage numbers than other decades, also true of the post-war period.

The relatively low turn-over of players in the last 6 years is an indicator that we're going in the right direction. You can't build a team if its players change every year. I know it's pre-season, but I'm remarkably optimistic for the future, especially if the new east stand gets started this year. 5th this year is not impossible (injuries permitting) and finishing above Cas would be my goal.

Quite a few played fullback doing John Kears last year. IIRC Blaymire, Vievers, Motu Tony, Ryan Tongia, Aaron Murphy. Maybe Luke George as well?

I do remember DD at fb

It was around the time of harbin /mcnally

He was a good player but didn’t have a regular spot
They tried him at fb but it wasn’t for him at hall
Positionally it just didn’t work
He kept coming too close to the defensive line and because he was so small the attacking side (could have being London) kept chipping over his head
He was constantly out of position

Was a real nightmare for him

Yeah really test us somthing like squad number 27

Been bugging me for weeks but I knew there was a player missing. Didn’t play many but was memorable for one game especially.

Tommy Saxton.

Filled in at wing but mainly FB for six games and was the only player I ever saw who nearly forgot to score.

The game at Cas where he held the ball up to the crowd before touching down.

I seem to remember Miller playing a couple of games at full back as well, I think it was at the back end of Webster's reign.

He did, probably best forgotten.

I thought it was Hodgson, I seem to remember it was him who kicked a drop goal against St Helens at Oakwell and I am sure he wore the one shirt
