Thrum Hall sloped from touchline to touchline rather than tryline to tryline. A hostile 'orrible place and the scene of Wally's last appearance for Trinity. Once saw Tony Garforth of Halifax ( ex Trinity) trying to climb over the wall at the back of the sticks to get at a Wakey fam who'd been abusing him. Fortunately for said fan, Garforth was restrained by a team mate.

Been a while since I've seen the film but there were scenes at the top of Westgate outside the Timothy Whites Chemist and a punch up scene outside the Mecca. I'll have to have another scan through.

I was there that day and saw that incident. Garforth was obviously incensed at something said to him. pity he didn't display the same aggression on the pitch!

Is that the same Tony Handforth that played for the trinity juniors about 1965, also if it's the same, was his lad tiger Handforth?

No, this is Tony Garforth, originally signed for Trinity from Ossett Trinity.

I remember the lad, he was the landlord of the Grey Horse for a time, I'm sure I played alongside his dad down at Bellevue along with such as Terry Crook, I've got meself confused with Garforth somehow.

Correct Wollo. He jumped off the bus outside what was the Midland Bank at the top of Westgate for an evening paper. The streets around the house where he lodged though were in Leeds.
I was at that last match of Wally Lewis at Thrum Hall and managed to get his autograph for my lad. One of the few grounds that was even less attractive than BV, you could say.

Surely you mean the INFAMOUS Dolphin, Lindsay. The things that went on on in that place made the national Sunday papers back in the day. Tommy Fisher was the landlord and it's his band playing in the film.

Tommy Fisher ran a pub in Barnsley before moving to the Dolphin, possibly The Three Cranes.
You sound very much like a chap who would have been a follower of The Dreaded Kalahari Bushmen, BLM. Who can ever forget those nights with Heppy and the boys in the Flanshaw Hotel, Balne Lane club on a Monday and the Wakefield Arms. Good days eh?

Opposite Woolworths would be the Dog & Gunn. Dolphin was round the corner at the bottom of Warrengate. Changed name to Wakefield Pride later but not sure what its called these days or if it's even there any more?

Heppy also had a small fish and chip shop/cafe next door to the Dolphin at the bottom of Warrengate, I used to get some chips and mushy peas from Heppys and jump straight on the Flansher Flyer bus at the stop outside his shop. Great days!!
The Kingfisher f&c shop/cafe at Calder Grove was also Heppy's back in the sixties.
You had to be early at the Balne Lane Club on a Monday night when the Bushmen were appearing. It used to get absolutely packed. Who can forget the heart rending performance of the old Jewish weepie "My Mother's Eyes" when sung by Tony Costello. There wasn't a dry eye in the club.

Yeah, him and a Polish guy called Woskalo (used to live at the bottom of Gargrave Place, Lupset). Gave me short back and sides many a time. Until The Beatle Cut arrived.

Wasn't that a way of getting round the licensing laws or something.
Seem to remember you could only serve alcohol after a certain time if it was with food.
Remember it being a small portion of chips and one sausage.
