| Jowitt didn’t have a great game but it wasn’t purely down to him that we lost, he had a few other comrades who were just as much to blame. He shouldn’t be thrown under the bus by Chester and dropped for Grix based on one game but i’d bet Good money thats exactly what happens.

| The saints tries came off our inability to stop the offload with 3 men in the tackle and three kicks we simply did not compete for
The game management was not great either with the wrong players ending up with the ball on the last tackle on more than one occasion. Last week at Hull we built pressure with repeated sets by forcing numerous drop outs, but tonight we just didn’t seem to have the patience/execution to do the same.
Chester clearly wasn’t happy and was frustrated by the performance which is understandable in that two bad spells allowed saints to score most of their points

The thought that TJ is an injury or 2 away from lining up against Kiwi or Australian international players in an England shirt frightens me. As good and exciting as he is going forward his decision making and positioning in defence is poor at best. Worryingly it doesn’t seem to be getting better.
Neither of these lads though I feel we’re responsible for the loss. The respective benches changed the game. The Trinity interchange doesn’t really change the game up. Like for like players come off the field and enter the field.
When the Saints rotated they brought something a little different from the lads they replaced and it took us a little off guard and the damage was done in that second 20 of the first half.'"
No not rightly so. Seasoned professionals are just as capable of having an off day but don't get dropped, don't see why Jowitt is any different.

| You can't have it both ways.
When Grix made mistakes everyone called Chester out for not dropping him for wonder boy Jowitt.
Now Max has made mistakes it's unfair if Chester drops him.
He can't be immune. That won't do his development any good at all.
Both bring positives to the team. It's a difficult decision for Chester.

| Poptart .. perhaps Jowitt ( young player) should be given the chances Grix ( experienced player) has had over the last few seasons . I really don’t understand the dropping of young talented players .. how do they learn from their mistakes ? Any frailties Max or TJ or anyone else has needs Chester to coach and help them sort them out .

That's not my point. Grix was awful in the Super 8's last year, yet played 6 matches and Jowitt only one (Cas away). A lot of people kept saying Grix deserves to make up for his mistakes game by game, I think Jowitt deserves the same courtesy no?

Yes I do agree with that.
I've liked him at full back and Grix days are numbered so I'd favour Max but he has had two games with errors now. The sin binning at Hull would have cost us against a better team.
In terms of missing Grix (on the other post)...... We have definitely missed him in attack. I think we'd have scored some of those early chances yesterday with him.
....... but equally we may not have been as steady at the back.

| I agree Grix's days are numbered. Jowitt will grow with experience and I would like to see him get that in the remainder of the 8s against the best teams in the comp.

| I'd be disappointed to Jowitt is dropped off the back of last night but Chester has been pretty quick to haul players out this year for not being up to scratch - Johnstone, Pauli, Horo are three.
Bit of an over reaction to last night going on. Saints are the best team in the competition and were faster into defence and ran harder with the ball in hand. They'd done their homework and did a job on us.

| The mistakes from trying something I can take - that can happen to anyone, and the only way to avoid mistakes is to not do owt; the defensive ones are a bit harder to swallow, but all you can hope is that he watches the video, listens to his coaches, and learns as he goes.
Personally, I wouldn't drop him - I'd keep him for the remainder of the 8's so he can get a real opportunity to learn on the job; he's got massive potential, it just needs to come together.

| I couldn't sit through the recording when I got home so I may be wrong but:
I thought the game changing moment was when Miller tried one sidestep too many instead of putting in a grubber or even a pass. He got ankle tapped and we had to go into headless chicken mode for about 3 passes until Huby was the 1st to get composed and try his own grubber. It, unfortunately, went dead and Saints got 7 tackles, went up field and scored their 1st try. The seal was broken.
The silly short offload in our own half to Pauli Pauli killed our come back.
Look forward to next game now.

That play you talk about Rocky had gone for the line so wasn't there to receive the ball. Why Huby a prop was receiving the ball I don't know but the fact it came to him twice in the set showed that the heads had been lost in that set. Should have gone right when Huby put the grubber in but also should have been in the hands of one of our pivots.
People were giving PP stick for the knock on but it was poor play. if passes are not in to PP's hands he's too big to get down low for them quickly. Killer moment.
Its that bit of composure we need, almost like some of them get too excited forcing the play.

That said, if it had found the hands and he'd crashed over, we'd be singing his name on the terraces.
I get the frustration, but short of playing 5 drives and a kick, we have to accept that with entertaining rugby, comes some inevitable mistakes; Saints made plenty too, it's just frustrating when several happen in the same game, and they *appear* to have caused a loss.

Hopefully with a time, a settled squad and another preseason together we'll see a reduction in these errors. Only really highlighted as some were jumping on PP's back about it. Fine line between hero and zero in sport sometimes.

| Every player is allowed a drop in form for a game, and no doubt MJ had a game he will wish to forget.
I expected that the knives would be out for him before the final whistle went.
To drop him after one bad game, particularly when he was not alone would be rubbish!

| You lose games, no players go out to play badly. We did what we needed to do this season with Jowitt at full back for a large part of it.
I suppose in a perverse sort of way I benefit from the fact that I have supported the club for long enough to watch both the good and really bad teams. The current squad is one of the best we have put together for about 20 years.
We have players committing long term to the club. We run various teams and are looking to put a reserve team out next season something Leeds a so called big club are complaining about.
I do not think that losing to St Helens requires a forum meltdown by some.

I think there is a huge difference to the "meltdown" on here now and to the season when Kear finished his last spell in charge (as coach).
Back in those days, it was despair at just how bad things were.
Today, it's disappointment because we (the fans) know that had we played closer to our best, we would very likely have beaten Saints.
The 15 minutes in the second half, when we pulled back to 16 - 12 showed what we were capable of but, a couple of errors killed the momentum.
I haven't seen too many dummy spits or meltdown, just disappointment and considering this was a game against the LLS winners, it shows just how far we've come.
I'm proud to be a Trinity fan and the words from Andy Kelly about the promotion side, were quite moving.
Those guys gave our current side the opportunity to play in the top flight and the current squad are doing very nicely thank you.
I'm still dreaming of that trip to Wembley (to support Trinity) and I do feel that we should set our stall out to have a proper tilt at the cup next season.
I know that playing in SL will always be the primary target but, just imagine what a trip to the final would do for the club and the city.

I’ve been a member on here a long time, been reading these forums since 2004, though I don’t post much. The worst meltdown I’ve seen on here was the Hudds away under Tony Smith when we lost from 20-0 up (correct me if I’m wrong). The reaction was along the lines of we are relegated, the clubs bust etc etc
I don’t suppose a competitive loss at home vs the runaway league leaders is all that bad in perspective, is it...
