That said I don’t expect he’ll be a starting player next season and will be a decent squad player who can produce the odd performance of old in spots.

No it's not - because the simplistic way that game stats are presented doesn't account for games played, minutes played per game, whether the player in question was the first man or third man in etc etc - there are far too many lurking variables to draw that kind of conclusion.

I don't necessarily agree that the 3rd man shouldn't be counted but who decides whether the tackler is significant?
I still think stats are valuable but they only tell part of the story.
