A mate of mine, who is a Cas fan, who has also seen a few Fev games over the years said to me, when de signed him, that if you are a side in the bottom half of super league, or top end of championship, he would be a good player, but if you aspire to be bigger than that, we would struggle with him.

I think we signed him a little too late. A couple of seasons ago, he may have been slightly quicker. Maybe, when Broughy left, rather than messing around loaning Paul Cooke in 2010 and then signing Gareth Moore in 2011, we would have been better off with Finny then.

Personally I dont think that Finns time is up. However my grievance so far this year is the squad rotation that it would appear is just for the sake of it. Surely the benefit to having strength in depth in a squad is that, when a player such as Finn has a bad run of games, you can drop him and give someone else a shot. Equally, when said player plays well, you cant then drop him. Apply this situation to the forwards, full back etc. I would like to see Hampshire given a run of 4-5 games without the pressure of being dropped to give him a prolonged run with miller and then reassess. Same with Max, although it would appear the current injury to Grix has forced Chesters hand somewhat.

The point Eastern Wildcat has made in regards to aspiration is spot on, Finn IMO had a very successful time in the Championship and a fairly impressive 4 years in Super League however these last few weeks have outlined it for me. We need to bring someone in who is a little younger, a little hungrier but also has the experience that Finn has.

The name that matches that is Matt Smith though he is not the dynamic half some of our supporters want.

Funnily enough I had divulged a little bit into Smith but then deleted it, he fits the bill providing he is fit and do believe should we ever find ourselves in a final/big game a player such as Smith could be the difference between winning and losing purely from an experience factor.

Purely hypothetical of course but if Finn was going I’d take Matt Smith. High achiever at Super League level with a point to prove following being pushed out at Saints.

Im not in the get rid of Finn camp. He has his flaws but its not like he has suddenly got slow. Hes been just as slow when he's been outstanding for us.
For me he is suffering with injury and it's affecting him. He needs a rest to get it sorted not a boot out of the club.

Saying that if Cooper Cronk became available then of course we have to look ahead.
I like Smith a lot and would be great for us if the price was right......but if we need him that badly then we might as well get rid of Hampshire too. He's either the guy yo take over so give him a chance or not.

I don't dispute the fact the lad's been used in numerous positions. What gets my goat is the fact we have a talented and hungry young lad, already in the building, yet we get threads and posts about players such as Smith and Sandow. One who is, in my opinion, clearly past his best, and the other who seems to be a complete idiot, who causes no end of trouble, wherever he ends up.

Let's give rocky the same games as Finn then we all know who is right or wrong

Just remember what Ry21 said... almost 100 SL games Rocky has had, Finn has actually only played about 120 SL games... Rocky should not be a first choice halfback for a SL club.

We shouldn't be trying anything out in games. Decide who the right one is and stick with it.

Unless someone has a severe problem with form/injury, we should be trying to have the same pivots in every game, so that they manage games between them and better understand what the plan is.

Apart from a couple of exceptions, our offence has been bloody awful for most of the season.
Defensively (apart from Salford) we've been pretty good and generally, we aren't too far away, either in terms of winning games and where we need to be in the table.

Improving discipline and completion rates will do far more for the side than chopping and changing personnel.

Judging by the daft comments on here, we aren't allowed to fail WITH Finn, so what slack is Rocky gonna be cut.
How do you give an unproven 7 a long run without risking league position, its a balancing act with consequences.
Chezzy absolutely knows his team, why does anybody think Rocky isn't getting a good go at 7.
If 7 is gonna change, with top 8 nowhere near nailed on yet, it will have to be forced upon us, and I'm not even sure it'll be Rocky, though admittedly, options are limited.

Finny has played around 125 SL games, according to Wiki. One would presume all in the pivots, and Hampshire 82. I would guess that only around 50% of those were in the halves.

If we had a decent A-Team league as we did in the not too distant past all this "Is he good enough or isn't he?" nonsense would be sorted in the second team games. I seemed to work before.

I don't think he should get an 'odd' game at all.
If he's in for injury then he plays until the other guy shows he is better in training.
If he is in because he's better than Finn he stays there until he either proves he isn't good enough or Finn proves himself in training.
Changing 'just to see' doesn't benefit anyone.

Ok how come the ball get's past slower when Finn is playing .How come the ball is not getting out to the wings .How come Miller is disappearing for the second half of matches.Hull match none of this happened .Rocky as played 7 again's Hull Leeds,and Cas . We have played Finn against Salford and Huddersfield so called lesser teams lost them both .Let give Rocky a go against a lesser team.Any body notice how the second half of most of the matches that Finn as played have seen a poor performance .Ok if we keep playing him let him come on for 20 mins sub him ,then come on for 20 mins again .Playing Finn for the full 80 mins is killing us.

I dont disagree that we shouldn’t change for changes sake, my point is people want a young, hungry half,with a point to prove. We have one of those already, and haven’t had to break the bank to sign him.

I agree with this but it isn't happening is it - and that's why such as Hampshire only get the odd game, because as soon as the guy they replace is fit, they are dropped.
I appreciate it's the coaches call, but it doesn't allow the replacing player to develop.

Our attack in the oppositions 20 has been terrible all season- it has been masked by winning those close games early on---- LUCK???

we have close to the 2 fastest wingers in super league who never see the ball

I am afraid though we don't have answers to it in the current squad ! unless we buy a quality halfback mid season.
