Although Leigh did well to beat them I'm not sure you can hold Salford up as a Top 8 team, especially when they played Leigh. They went into a right free fall after the points deduction and didn't play anything like as well as they did earlier in the season.

As for Leigh they've made 3 good signings so far but who knows what will happen next year. We all saw what happened with Salford when Coolcash bought them and started signing names left right and . Similarly like us, I haven't a clue how we're gonna go next year, even though by the start of next season we'll have a better team.

I do hope plenty of Leigh fans jump on their bandwagon and start following their team, we need fans to replace the Hul KR lot. I also hope we can continue to rise our fan base again next year again, to get it into the 5k+.

I'll qualify my remarks.

Since SL began the following teams have entered it after gaining promotion with exactly the same credentials - all ended up in the bottom three some for quite some time - all had shiny ne grounds - all had big money backers.All were cellar dwellers for quite some time.

Hudds - Davey - The McAlpine

Salford - Koucash - New ground

Widnes - good ground - Can't recall there blokes name - good support

Catalan - good ground - loads of dosh - a whole nation supporting them - good start but a few seasons later bottom

Castleford - poor ground - some money behind them - great support STRAIGHT BACK DOWN

Wakefield Wildcats - poor ground - no money - low fan base Took us 4 seasons before we got a sniff

Some differing scenarios there but all with a similar outcome. Only Hull FC and HKR have really bucked the trend.

For the life of me I can't see any difference with Leigh. It's one thing riding high in the Championship it's another playing the mister week in week out.

The other thing is that Belly is your typical RL bandwagon jumper who's impressed by anything thats shiny and expensive without ever looking any deeper - winds me up.

Agree. I'm surprised some people are convinced Leigh are a top 8 side next year, it could happen but as you point out above shows, it's less likely to.

We will just enjoy the ride, some fans will have expectations without logic but that's life. Our target will be to be better than 4 other SL clubs, if we do that we will be in a better place for the following season. The benefits of the current structure is that we have been a FT club for 2 years, this will be our third coming up. We spent about £1.4m last season and will take that to full cap this. The fact we have been competitive against SL sides already, have been FT and only need 6/7 players to recruit means we will be in a decent place come KO, but one things for certain this time cash wont be a problem - especially if the rumoured shirt sponsor comes off

I think Leigh will slot in nicely with the rest of us makeweights.

Could go either way for Leigh - they've certainly recruited well, given that every player with any kind of potential availability is now immediately linked to them by default; the only caution I guess is what happened to Salford when they tried to buy success - it didn't work out too well for them did it. Once the justified euphoria of their promotion has worn off a bit, the more realistic of their fan base should be looking for survival in the first season, building towards success as their SL tenure is secured.

I wish them luck - but not for the inevitable season opener against us, at theirs, since we're always the bone that these teams are thrown to get them off to a flying start.
